Faces and bases, folks. It's all faces and bases. The rest is just set dressing. Smash out the core of a miniature with some Contrast and drybrushing, and spend time painting the bits that you enjoy!
The Anvil Industry Print on Demand service is just getting started, but it's worth checking out if there are any miniatures from the Digital Forge which haven't yet made the leap to cast resin: anvilindustry.co.uk/3d-printe...
The video where I 'go overboard' in painting a face, hopefully queued up to the right moment! • Birthday Bonanza! Easy...

As someone who started as a plastic air fix painter who moved on through the years into all the ww2 Tamiya 1-35 dioramas I’m now a 28mm army builder and painter although I’ve never played a actual war game I really enjoy this scale and your videos are my inspiration for my style thank you for taking the time to let appreciate your style and skill 😊

The timing of this video is amazing. I’m just about to start building some tempestus scions for my valhallan army and was planning on going for a Gorka/ spetsnaz look. Definitely will be revisiting this video when I paint them

Huh the models kinda remind of Spartan Order from the Metro Series. Same gear with more urban flavor. Thanks for another tutorial.

The figures look great and I like the color scheme as it brings out the detail in them. These would be great for a diorama too. Thanks for sharing this.

As usual Anvil Industry's minis are top notch, the painting scheme is very utilitarian, useful for a lot of environments, it's only needed changing some colours. I imagine that with the new helmets from the Brotherhood, these figures could pass for some dark future troopers.

Nothing says post apocalyptic survivor more than using a welding helmet for personal protection (except for maybe bike pads and football padding).

What Roadside Picnic games are folks enjoying for these types of models? I tried Zona Alfa and thought it was a great start but had too many rules ambiguities? Any other Roadside Picnic/STALKER like games out there that anyone can recommend?

Another excellent review and one that I'll be taking some inspiration for when painting my Stalker squad. Just a question about the Instar Varnish+, do you just brush this on? I've only ever used spray varnish but that's a nightmare when the westher isn't great!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 11 дней назад
Yup, the Instar varnish you can brush straight on from the pot. It also applies well from an airbrush, if you've got one, but there's no worry about cans going funny and frosting.

Would you substitute the thinned Agrax with one of the Army Painter Tone washes as they behave like the old Citadel washed? Would you thin those too?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 10 месяцев назад
You can, it won't make much difference. I'd still thin with Lahmian Medium, though. Thinning them basically lets you skip the layering step where you'd go back and brighten the miniature up, you ordinarily won't need to with a thinned shade.

Out of curiosity, Ive noticed recently youve switched from the Marine Juice to Agrax earthshade. Has that choice been purely based on the tones of the model? or just a new favourite? Great video as always
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 10 месяцев назад
It's really just a case of what I'm painting. This time I wanted darker recesses and more pronounced shading, so out comes Agrax. The Juice would probably have worked just fine as well, but been a softer shade.

[Nice paintjob as always, that goes without saying] It's interesting that we've come to link "Stalker" with military guys and weapons. The original novel, "Roadside Picnic", doesn't feature guns or the military at all (and there are no true "monsters" either!); instead it's all about scavengers going into the Zone unarmed, and facing madness and/or bodily harm by strange phenomena. The military are just border guards trying to prevent incursions, and they barely feature at all. I believe the same is the case with the STALKER movie by Tarkovsky (I'll admit I've only seen scenes). So was the theme of dudes with guns and monsters introduced by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. videogame, and from there picked up by its pop culture derivatives?

Yes. Literally the answer is just "yeah" XD

I've no idea, I'm afraid. I don't really know the genre all that well *outside* of video games and the tabletop stuff that tends to be inspired by them!
