Backhoe Loose Swing Chain Quick Fix Ford 4500

Have a 68 4500 when I purchased it, it had a hard copper line to the hydraulic reservoir tied to a Tee between the swing cylinders. Have had no issues. Now if the line is off the swing gets sloppy. Good video.

With as far as you go to rebuild these motorcycles this repair is definitely in your wheel house ... Make sure there's slack in your chain..disconnect your hose..get a drain pan that'll hold at least 2 glns of oil..remove one cylinder ..take apart the packing/gland nut..the threaded end at top of cylinder..make sure the cylinder us chucked in a BIG vice ..take it apart..repack it ..reinstall it .. You've never done it before ..5-6 hrs..someone who's done it before 2-3 hrs .. Bing-bang-boom...done. Change hydraulic oil and all filters . Yes..you can do this ..👍😉👍

Nice temporary fix my man! Used to work on heavy equipment hydraulics myself, looks like something I would do to 'get her home' as well...actually if I thought about it, I'm sure that I had done a few of those out in the field lol.

I have the same problem with mine! Thanks, this is great information. My hoe is off the tractor now so I’m gonna have both cylinders repacked. Still need some more info on bleeding system when I get them mounted back up……..

I put a tee in the big return hose from the backhoe and run my line on there on stead of running it all the way to the front.

I didn't know if there were but maybe a couple of these tractor's with the backhoe still alive . But you do have it home and inside a shop or building . Now's the time to just fix it correctly or right the first time without screwing around . What's going to happen if someone else tries to run the backhoe ? They're lost and screwed , so just fix it right the first time or you're wasting time . Those Ford 4500 with the backhoe and frontend loader are some long lasting machines , if taken care of properly !!

Run the line between the cyl and run it into the res tank

Nice "fix". You may have to watch that your not airtraiting /frothing your hydraulic oil. But I'd think it would be fine. Rather clever way to get the job done.

Even Mr Ford an Harley Davidson had to had to adapt, but eventually the two cylinders should be rebuilt as a pair, you know Murphy law, replace one headlight the other will go out.

you might want to put something around that hose into tank to stop dust and moisture getting into you hydraulic oil otherwise your going to be in all sorts of bother those contaminants will kill your complete system quicker than speed gorden ol mate
