Scotland in October very cold and wet. Or can be in my experience. A tip if you pack your kit in reverse order. I,e what you need first at the top like tent. You don't need to empty your whole kit to get it out. It maybe important if raining or wet. Then stove and sleeping kit so once tent is up it can be done in the tent after that with a brew. Good luck! I did the WHW last month and it was truly magical! Be aware that the Inveroran Hotel is currently closed to non residents.. Might not be a problem but does mean that in terms of refreshments (ie beer on tap) there is only the Bridge of Orchy Hotel between Tyndrum and Kings House, which is quite a long and isolated stretch, particularly if you are relying on pub grub for one meal a day! You can still camp there but we opted to carry on up the hill for a mile or two, there's a great spot in some woods up on the left side of the track.. Away from the other people 👍 PS I echo earlier sentiments, the North end of Loch Lomond is not to be underestimated 😂

Hi Becky, I walked the West Highland Way about 20 years ago now, I walked it with a few work mates, and we did it during he winter, as we wanted to experience and walk in the snow. You will absolutely love it as the scenery is breathtaking. Enjoy and stay safe !

Very nice! I realize that you're going with a traditional loadout but you might want to check out some of these lightweight/ "ultralight" backpacking channels. They really helped me lighten up a lot over the years. There are several little tweaks you can make that can really add up to a significant drop in weight. 17 kg seems a bit heavy (for me at least), especially for a long trip.

The two best bits of advice i got on doing my first long distance walk: How do i prepare for my first long distance walk? "Just start walking". I ditched unused gear and bought what i actually needed in the first week. Everyone ends up with a slightly different set of gear for the same walk, that works for them. Second bit of advice, which you mentioned in your video: "Don't set a rigid timetable". It's a long walk, some days go well, other days you're tired and if you set a rigid timetable, you just beat yourself up for not achieving. Sounds like you're going to have a great adventure, all your viewers are gonna look forward to your video.

I think learning what you do and don't need is part of the journey and you'll soon ditch something if you don't need it. I'm not a lightweight backpacker and never will be through personnel preference. I like comfort and the weight doesn't bother me and if it doesn't bother you either then who cares? Have fun, I'm sure you will. Scotland is a beautiful country and the WHW certainly showcases that. Atb Shaun

You will love the West Highland Way, probably carrying too much stuff but i did the same back in 1990 and found i never used a lot of the stuff. Have a good trip.

I'am happy for you. I can really relate to your excitment, because last year I did a part of WHW (like 60% of it) and I know how happy I was at that time. Now, thanks to you, I will have the chance to see those places again, so I'll keep an eye on your next videos. I really miss how happy I was there. Scotland is great in so many ways, full of nice people. I miss even the midgets. :) Be careful how much you carry. I have back pain and bad knees now, at 39, and I wish I carried a less heavy backpack in the past. Now, for my 2 weeks in Scotland, I had only 6.2kg (without food or water) and it was all good. And be careful with the bivy and the down sleeping bag combination too. Bivys, because they don't really breath, tend to make a lot of condensation, and you don't want to end up with a soaked sleeping bag in a wet enviroment. Anyway, I wish you a happy trail and a big smile on your face. Greetings from Romania. :)

I went in May, friggin heatwave. Couldn't work out the transport link to mulgavie, so took a cab. The locals weren't particularly helpful or friendly but it was 30 years ago, I am sure things have improved! Best of luck

Some tips from a fellow lady camper familiar with what you are doing and from the area. Forget about the toilet roll - too bulky. Take wee packets of tissues instead. Easier to pack and keep dry. Don't forget a bag to carry out your toilet tissue waste. Moss a good alternative! A wide tent peg is a useful alternative to a trowel for burying your poo. No mosquitos up here and the midges have gone. Had ice on my tent last week. Needed woolly hat, buff and duvet jacket. Missed what bed roll you are using but it will need to be a good one! I would use walking poles. The path is rough in places and you will appreciate them for balance when crossing streams and bogs. Are you taking gaters? It is muddy in sections. A lot of the restaurants and cafes have closed up here now due to Covid. You will need your face mask. Several hotels in the area have had to close due to staff catching Covid. Bivvy and tent feels like a lot of extra weight. Either/or surely. If need be you could cheat a little and get a bag of the heavier stuff taken from one location to the next for you. Good luck. I hope it goes well for you. The autumn colours up here are great. There has been snow on the hills so make sure you are well prepared!

Great video, just did WHW 3 weeks ago. The one thing I want to say, that the most important thing for this walk is the right boots/shoes. I had some problems, because of the terrain and stones on almost every step :) With the backpack weight like yours you definitely need shoes with hard soles and proper insoles too. Wish you no blisters, good weather and great adventures!

You have plenty of items in your backpack and is ready for a long hike and I hope it all last you for a month's trip to Scotland and I wish you all the best on your trip. I love the selection of items you are taking with you and it looks great too and you will need to buy another container of fuel or two while on your way to where you will be staying before returning home. I would recommend finding a place with some wood and rocks so you can make a camp fire to save your fuel as much as possible. Would highly recommend taking a small umbrella with ya. Much nicer than a rain jacket in light rain. Enjoy and have a great trip

The easiest way for you to cut the pack weight down would be a lightweight tent. The Banshee is excellent but heavy. Looking forward to seeing your adventure sounds amazing.

you could probably lose a fair bit of that kit esepcially the bivi bag if you got a decent sleeping bag. Also you may know this tip but smoke from a camp fire is a good midgie repellent but also if you hang your clothes above the fire or you open them up on you and stand near the fire and whaft the smoke across you, the smoke kills the bacteria that causes smelly clothes ;) Enjopy scotland it really is beautfiul scenary with great people. also if you dont have one get a shemagh as that has loads of uses including acting as a filter of Debris from water if you fill up in a stream (preboiling) good drills and hope you had a good tab

Someday I hope you can make it to the US and if you do, I highly recommend the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW or BWCA), in Minnesota. I had the same problems with my filter, I bought a new hose for my source 3 liter hydration back and cut it and attached the filter that way

When you want to clean our your pots, in the military we used to use sand to clean and works the best with a bit of water
