My buddy trail name “Fancy Pants” and I got to sneak in an October two day one night backpacking trip at the Spruce Knob - Seneca Creek Backcountry in Monongahela National Forest. We used the route recommended on HikingUpward for a total of a 17 mile loop.
Overall we found it to be a fairly easy trip. Elevation gain is around 2300'. We hiked 11 miles on the first day and 6 on the second. Beautiful views of the mountain ranges and multiple water falls. The big win was being able to camp on Seneca Creek right at a water fall "labeled by some as "the prettiest campsite in Monongahela" with the sound of the creek constantly running in the background as we slept. There were a lot of campsite options both at the creek and early into the hike if you wanted to make this a 3 day trip or just wanted to do an easy trip back and forth from the parking area. I tried to show several of them in the video.
HikingUpward is a great site to get directions and information on many hikes in WV, VA, and NC. It was pretty much spot on for this trip.
