TODAY’S VIDEO:
We are at my friend Tracy’s house where last summer a huge tree fell during a storm and now the fence line that was once in shade is now full-on blazing hot afternoon sun. Today we will assess the area a create a design for Tracy. FYI: She LOVES purple!!

Yay for sedum and yay for removing those orange day lilies ( have personally removed hundreds😂)! Please show pictures of her yard after a month or so. Plans are wonderful- so many of my favorites and some new to me.

Thank you for doing this design! I'm in the process of relocating the flowers in my backyard but was struggling with what would work best together. I have several of these plants that I bought on a whim over the last few years cause I thought they were pretty but there's no rhyme or reason with how I planted them so now they look like a hot mess.

I love the Arbor Vitae "Danica" your showed (at 10:07) and would LOVE to replace the two very large junipers we've kept trimmed into a round shape in our front planter with Danicas, PLUS the arbor vitae are soft leaved and don't stick you like the junipers do. The junipers were nice 15 years ago, but have gotten too large and I hate getting stuck when I have to trim them and when I clean up the trimmings. I wasn't aware that the arbor vitae would survive in my zone 4 area, but now that I do, our junipers are gonna go!

Michelle: What a beautiful border garden you've designed!! Your use of greens, whites, and yellows REALLY give the purples the enhancement they deserve! Tracy is fortunate to have your talent + knowledge as a resource. Wish we ALL had lots that big. Well, maybe not all of us -- some would actually just fill the whole thing w hot rock, especially here in the desert, where they're just making EVERYBODY hotter!!, or yuk! concrete for miles, or, gulp, weeds.. So, gardeners get the big lots!!

Thanks for the hibiscus info. I planted 'Luna White' last fall and it is still so little a 'May Night' salvia is towering over it! lol Maybe there is hope for it yet. I grow blue false indigo as well and I like its black pea pods in the fall. I leave it up all winter and I know it is spring for sure when I just give the old stems a tug and they come out cleanly with no bending over to prune it, ever! :D

Hey Michelle how about designing around a large tree stump I just had a big tree removed too because it died but now I have a large stump that looks so bare where the tree was

Margie, just sharing what I did. I placed a large iron bowl on my stump with the old variety of sedum (not sure of the name) but it drapes beautifully all around the stump and then I planted lambs ear around it but you could put whatever you like.

Another great video!! Looks awesome!! I also had a tree along a fence cut down where the hostas probably will burn. I was wondering how wide and long was section 1 starting on the left side? This video certainly will help me in designing this new section. Thanks Michelle!! Love your videos!!!

6-8 ' I didn't measure width as I will be resetting the brick edging to accommodate what I am planting....

Oh. Length...the whole thing was 68' long so that section was probably 17 ft long

I have 1 flopping right now....but we had 2 days of rain and 4 days of crazy wind... so yes they can...but if they are in full sun....they stay upright....sometimes I cut mine in 1/2 and they get new leaves and stay smaller....

Wont hurt them if you do not over water. Drought tolerant means they can go longer inbetween watering...but they still need water.
