Finally, someone had the nerve say “yes, a bacon appetizer CAN come in sandwich form!” Today we proudly salute Mary M. Wright, author of Salads and Sandwiches from 1917. For she has provided to us an easy and tasty sandwich, free of yeast cakes and Worcestershire sauce (not that I have anything against the latter but man, is it used in A LOT of old sandwich recipes).

YUM! I make this breakfast sandwich for my son every Saturday morning. I toast and butter the bread and occasionally add cheese in addition to the hot sauce.

Well, I was completely wrong - I was expecting cheese. That sauce does sound good, though, and the sandwich sounds like a total winner. By the way, we do appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos! With other channels on top of a full-time job, that's an awful lot of work. Thank you.

True story: The Denver Omelet didn't start as an omelet. It started as the Denver Sandwich, which is basically a Denver Omelet between two pieces of toast. So that was a solid reference!

It reminds me of old New York City diner food. Coming back from a nighttime hospital call, he would order a scrambled egg sandwich on toast and put the side order of bacon on the sandwich before eating. Sometimes he would add Ketchup. With a cup of coffee...YUMMM! (I was in med school and would sometimes go with him. I always had French Toast.)

Here in Nova Scotia, we toast the bread and call this a Western Sandwich. Old school diners still have it on the breakfast menu.

The solution to structurally weak bread is toasting. Also it should have been buttered imo but not strictly necessary.

Have you tried the Lancashire classic of bread and dripping? Simply put it's congealed beef (or pork) fat spread lavishly over bread. You can add salt to choice. Yum!
