I used to use s 65 London before that. Then Strymon iridium for the alleged noise. The singers complained one day looking over at me and I was not playing. It was the loud keyboards
Guitars are made to be guitars. When you take away the other half of a guitars equation, we can’t call ourselves guitarists. They become men with their balls cut off. Don’t stand for it and tell the soundmen to do their job😊 plexiglass or a guitar hard case in front of an amp to block the blast, that’s all the needs to happen. Soundmen need to work on their craft as we have crafting our tones, feel and dynamics. They should have to learn and get a feel for what can’t be taught, experience and having prides in one’s craft. That’s where they lack. They don’t have any idea about tone, sound or mixing, hence where it has come.
@@StratTones It just depends. At church a guitarist is there to serve the house, not just themselves. Most of them do. I run Front of House as WELL as play guitar so I understand both sides. The problem is most AMP guitarists want to crank their amps, and that kills stage volume and is a distraction most of the time to a service. It's a work in progress
It sounds like you were thinking of My Sharona around the 12:00 minute mark. Killer amp. Perfect for my needs. A foot switchable reverb would be a welcome addition. Thanks for the demo.
I can’t tell how much headroom this amp has. A lot of demos show it in a more classic-hard rock kinda way. I liked how clean/pushed it sounded in this demo
Yes, "headroom" is difficult to convey in a demo. In my experience, any single channel tube amp, 30 watts or more is going to have a good amount of clean headroom but, I did try to convey in the initial playthrough example, what the clean mode is capable of. You've got good ears and perspective! Thanks for chiming in!
Bad Cat is a company ive always wanted to try. They sound amazing in demos, but i just really love the aesthetic and name. Theres just something about them that calls to me.
I love the sound of Bad Cat amps. If I were playing larger venues, I would be running a Bad Cat with a Revv or Dr Z. The Bad Cat just has that unique character which would mix well with other amps or work perfectly well on its own. As always, thanks a ton, Shawn!
Hahaha I laughed out loud when you said here’s the guitar without the amp! Thank you for the point of reference Shawn! Lol Another outstanding demo by the best in the biz!
Great demo of a fantastic amp/ company. I did however note that the actual Cat left at 5:55 hopefully not due to its naughty cousin…. ST is the man for this. Respect. And also lots of love for your STP connection. Cheers from Bonnie Scotland
I play fractal, tonex, NAM and some amp sim plugins, but if I were to buy an amp, it would be bad cat. There is just this definition about them and a mighty roar I adore. And the attack is so immediate.
“SHAWNTASTIC” Demo! Dig the tones you get through this amp. Never owned or played a BadCat. Seeing you and Tim Pierce putting these through the ringer, I will have to try them out! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Idk I really preferred the guitar without the amp, something really pure about that untouched, virginal sound that just spoke to me in places I didn't expect. Cool amp tho.
Sounding amazing through this amp Shawn! I like this tone better than your other amps. My personal favorite amp of all time is the Bad Cat Black Cat 30. It's got the EL84 power tubes I prefer the 12AX7 channel over the EF86 channel for the extra clarity and top boost style circuit. It's basically the exact same circuit as the Matchless C-30, as this was the first amp Mark Sampson released under the Bad Cat name, after selling Matchless. It's like a better built Matchless C-30. For my style of guitar playing, it's THE amp. I run a stereo rig in my recording studio where I combine the Bad Cat Black Cat 30 with a with a Vox AC30TB and it's wow-time! I think the midrange voicing of the Cub is better suited to your Landau infused style Shawn. The Cub has more bark, kind of like Landau himself. You seem a lot nicer than Mike so having the extra bark from the amp may be needed to get there. You were playing "I'm Gonna Be (5000 Miles)" by The Proclaimers.
To my ears the EL 34’s bring a little more “modern” crunch while still keeping that “voxy” sparkle. The immediacy of the amp really shown in your demo and loved the “out” passages.
Man, that playing off the top was OFF the charts! wow! in regards to the amp, I haven't met a BadCat amp I haven't loved yet! I think that song was " I will walk 500 miles" by the Proclaimers,,lol PS I saw your cute kitty in the background
Have owned many tube amps from Marshall and Vox to fender etc.. Just bought a cub today combo one of the best purchases I’ve made in quite some time the cleans are crazy good rivaling my fender deluxe bringing out the out of phase sounds that I only used to hear love the overdrive also EL 34 never sounded so good
love the mic. i feel that i can get more of what the amp does than when you heavily filter it through an IR. i dunno, maybe a little less generic sounding. i feel that some channels that demo gear all have a sameness to them due to the constant use of their favorite IR.
Hello again. The song is actually “500 Miles” from a Scottish band called The Proclaimers. Not one hit wonders over here in Scotland but maybe in the US. Just saying. Cheers
Did you see how low he was running the bass? I think that amp is probably pretty warm sounding for Shawn to have the bass that low with a V30. BadCat also has V30's in their combos and separate cabs. Seems like the amp was developed around that particular speaker. Shawn is also great at mic'ing a guitar cab and his 57/121 blend gives us a great blend of what is coming out of the speaker. I appreciated the live amp versus the IRs. Before Shawn said anything I thought it might be a live cab. Great job, Shawn!
5:55 on the right side of screen - a nice cat is leaving... ??? Anyway, the BadCat sounds great - BadCat has been the sound of Porcupine Tree for last ~ 20 years.. :) Regards Shawn!
When I grow up I wanna play one tenth of how you play brother. FUCKIN' HERO !!!!!!! and yes, I want a James Tyler Studio Elite for sure! keep kickin' ass Shawn!
@@ShawnTubbs it’s always a pleasure learning stuff from you and enjoying that AWSOME playing. Then, from now I’ll be very happy with my SG Special. Those P90’s are phenomenal 🙂
Nice amp but i need another tube amp like i need a hole in my head LOL! As usual just like to hear you play. Usually won't get the gear you demo but i did take your advice and get a RAT it's on one of my boards actually as a low gain overdrive. Keep up the great work my friend!
What kind of studio speakers are you using? Daw? Killer crunch, blew me away. Wowza….humbuckers with a LP would be epic….single coils seem heavier maybe due to EL34. Either way…holy moly….sweet…maybe Santa will be good to me….30w plenty of power now in most smaller and medium clubs. Bet with Celestian 55hz speakers would be crushing …..you da man….A+
I'd use my Bad Cats more if their fx loops didn't suck so bad. to be fair, mine are from right before they revamped the lineup. John from Bad Cat said they'd change over my fx loops to the current ones on the cheap, but then a few months later when i checked in to see about having that done, he started to walk back the offer. :(
BadCat ruined their branding IMO changing the amps so substantially over the years with the same name/model of the amp. You now need a degree in BadCat to know what you have and even their website does a poor job of detailing older legacy models. They’re great sounding but horribly marketed/branded because of this. Gibson made the same mistakes over the years and has recently fixed/simplified a lot.
