Some of these games are literal romhacks, and the ninja is quite literally lifted from Captain Commando. They used to sell things like this at Walgreens, and they were pulled because they contained copyrighted material. At least those didn't cost 60 freakin bucks!

Is My Arcade owned by AtGames? But it's curious, I thought it was a famiclone at first, but some games have way too many colours on screen for that, so maybe a genesis on a chip?

"Battle Plan" looks an awful lot like the game engine from "Sky Shark." Completely agree with John regarding, well, literally everything he says in this video.

If Action 52 were a console, it would be this. AVGN might do a review of these games a few decades from now and the price will skyrocket, so get this while you can.

I made the mistake of grabbing some popcorn before pressing play. I immediately put the bag back after realizing how presumptuous I'd been.

I had something like that once, but it was just a controller that plugged into the TV. All the games on it were original, but very generic and all were pretty much really bad knock-offs of other popular games. Lots of scrolling shooters, probably because they are the easiest games to make. Games didn't have endings and would just loop back to the first level. Shooters would just loop forever and you'd eventually max out the score. You could literally just hang out on the right or left side of the screen, keep shooting nonstop and you'd never get hit.

I'm pretty sure that title screen for Warrior is Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible and they just drew a helmet on him.

Glad you made this! I keep seeing these at CVS Pharmacies. I knew it was going to be awful, but like you said in the beginning, I've been super curious as to what it actually looked like.

I was just eyeing this on GameStop last week for like $29.99 Thank you for this video! It’s kind of a cool system and mini compact size, with very limited classics of DataEast titles but then a bunch of random fillers that aren’t probably worth much time. Bad Dudes was definitely a fav of mine on NES as a kid. I hope you and your family have a Blessed and wonderful Christmas, sir :)

Fun fact: most of these games are attributed to a company called Good Code. The developer is from China. Many of the games started as official ports of atari titles made for the NES. The ports where never released, then they did some asset swaps, and repackaged them multiple times. Some of the games are original but even those aren't much to write home about.

As soon as I saw the menu, I commented to myself, it's a NOAC, with a few DATA EAST titles added. If the price is low enough I'd be happy to buy and play. Bought a NOAC very cheap in UK circa 2004/5 played it tons, still had CRT type tv then so the light gun games, worked, the controller had a built in light gun on Player One's controller. Most of the games were unaltered versions of classic Nintendo NES games like Popeye, Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros, etc. Just over 100 individual games. Great video. Thanks.

so it's a freakin' famicom multicart bootleg system but they added in the Data East NES roms? yikes! I remember retro-bit put out the 'Super Retro-cade' and I'm pretty sure that's a way better spent $60 bucks! and it even HAS all the Data East arcade stuff already on it! (as well as the console versions too it was a pretty massive package as I recall, only without all the no-name bootleg crap.) 5:48 unless i missed my guess that's 'Ginzu' from the arcade game 'Captain Commando'

I remember buying a My Arcade handheld years ago for my little cousin it had alot of generic games on it pretty much like this one but no actual 8 Bit titles on it. 60 Bucks a NO GOOD for me. Great Review

i remember seeing this in target last year i almost picked it up.its a good thing i checked the reviews.i ended up getting the super retro-cade from retro-bit.it is far better with arcade ports of data east games & also includes boogie wings

Bought this for my kids, didn't even last a month. Bought them a sega genesis mini instead over a year ago and its still being put to use today!

I actually noticed some of the sprite rips. The Fruit Ninja clone is using a ninja from the game, Red Earth made by Capcom. Also, the Jeep Racing game is using rips from Konami's Jackal. Also, one thing that can be clearly seen in your footage is the fact that each sprite rip has dumbed down the frames of animation used in the original pieces. Personally, I like what the Evercade does instead, where they get contracts with publishers and developers to put NES, Genesis, Atari and other homebrew games that highlight the developers work and showcases them as modern old-school games. A good example is the Indie Heroes Collection 1 on Evercade

The Ninja from that Ninja Fruit game is ripped from Captain Commando. The character's name is Ninja Commando: Ginzu, I believe.

Compare this to something like the Super Retrocade and you see how, yeah, both have filler, but the quanity and quality is so much better on the Super Retrocade. Good video John

I tried many emulations in the past. Retrocade, Sega Genesis pack made by AT Games(sucks), three Pandora boxes(11s, 18s, 20s), and finally the super console pro. Now that one, I went all out and got the 256gb version. It was worth it. 50,000 plus games. It has plenty of arcade titles. Unlike Pandora box, you can select what kind of emulator you want the game to run on so you can have the game run smooth, adjust the button mapping individually in every game, set the aspect ratio and have save states. It's great!! Oh and I can use my x arcade stick on it as well.

Thank you for this video, i've seen this console on the net a few times and the term "Date East" caught my eye and i was thinking of getting one, you saved me a few bucks because this thing would've ended up in the back of the closet or even in the trash.

I've had one of the Coolbaby 600 in 1 Noac's for a few years, paid in the $30 range direct from the far east when the NES classic was discontinued abruptly. I turn it on from time to time and it's fun, actually plays great for someone who grew up with an SNES ( and I still have 2 original SNES with several original games and a UFO pro 8 ). I recently bought a 800:1 Gameboy style Noac handheld for about $12 for no real reason, and it honestly plays great. Super Mario is #1 and Contra, is #3. Contra has multiple rom hacks in a separate screen. Burger time and a couple others are on there as well. The sound is not great but it's on par with a Gameboy

Best thing MyArcade made was the SF2 Mini 1player cabinet I bought some months ago. And that's not even all that good either. Nice video.

Reminds me a lot of the handheld My Arcade were selling a few years ago. Though I'm not if it has the same exact games on it save for the 8 Data East games. That one also had 300 games on it, so I'm thinking that maybe they swapped out some of the games on the handheld version and added a few different ones for the console rendition...

Lots of those cheap games were on a little 200 in 1 handheld game I bought at a grocery store for $19.95 about 6 years ago! (not the Data East games)

At least these boxes allow us to appreciate how difficult it is to program a video game that is actually fun to play.

The commercial released systems like this have indie homemade games to avoid copyright issues. For like 15 bucks you can get one of those NES mini plug n play knock offs from Aliexpress that has 600 games and some are original pirates...

I have a Super Retrocade and it has both the 8 bit and the Arcade versions on it.. not the best thing I own but it scratches my arcade ‘itch’ at a reasonable price

I've bought (for less than $20) about two dozen 500-in-1 Chinese Nintendos-on-a-chip and given some of them to my friends who thought these little systems were cool. This $60 system doesn't seem like it comes close.

The most amazing thing about these is they still have straight up pirate games on to this day. Spar is a graphic hack of Nintendo's Urban Champion Sky War is Jaleco's Exerion Sky Invader is Taito's Sky Destroyer Cobra of the Sky is Nintendo's Raid on Bungling Bay Dada is Nintendo's Popeye Bomb is Taito's ChacknPop Combata is UPL's Ninjakun Tunny is Capcom's SonSon Air Umbrella is Nintendo's Balloon Fight Battle is Namco's Galaga Air Alert is Namco's Xevious Those aren't just bad tribute games, they're straight up unlicensed NES ROM hacks of 1st party and 3rd party NES games, and there are probably a dozen more I haven't mentioned. These My Arcade / Dreamgear products aren't just bad, they're not even legal and I'm really surprised NIntendo or Namco haven't shut them down. (the 'premium' ones in the range that contain Arcade ROMS rather than NES ones are using unlicensed non-commercial 20 year old versions of MAME too)

Here is one thing that irks the hell our of me: if these are just 8 bit games that may or may not be tweaked.... WHY do they need that many buttons apart of just the necessary 4: 2 action buttons, a start, a select, and a d-pad? Now a reset button, because it's a plug-and-play unit, I can accept, but it should be the only added one you need.

Never underestimate the "I have a few of these in my collection" quote from John.

Interestingly, a lot of the "original" games do things NES hardware couldn't in the graphics stakes. For instance, a NES can only do 4 colours(including transparent for sprites) per 8*8 pixel tile. Makes me wonder if they're maybe Master System, since that could do 16 colours per tile.

The most interesting question is who made these 300 games? Even with stolen assets it takes time to put them together.

Sumosys 700 was best bang for buck EVER on this type of plug and play system. Has actual games from almost every system from Atari up to Ps1, and they are good pretty much full libraries. And I do mean EVERY system, including Atari Jaguar, Atari Lynx, Wonder Swan, Wonder Swan Color, Neo Geo Pocket, and the regular Nes, Snes, Gb, GBC, GBA, etc etc. Just an Awesome system, hdmi connection all on a tiny raspberry pi based console.

Looks like the majority of these games (apart from the DataEast ones) are Chinese bootleg games by an outfit called "NIce Code Software" which were created for so-called "Famiclone" consoles, e.g. VT03.

I am surprised on how nice some of these 8bit games looks like.

Bad Dudes was sweet playing in the arcades, but the NES game play control is okay, but not very good.

Some of these had a starting screen so vivid, and detailed, and beautiful that it kind of tickled my "Having great time" string. But gameplay just ruined them all...

I got one of these, can you add your own ROMs? Mine doesn't have the Data east games. I had the handheld version of this in prison, it got me though the 24/7 COVID lockdown. I wanted to play anti SARS. That was the game I played most in jail.

a current gen firestick with Retroarch and DIG frontend is all you need and maybe it's a cheaper option than these knockoff consoles.

Oh GameStop why? A few Data East games could have been fit into a wired plug and play controller resembling and NES controller or a wired NES arcade stick but unfortunately this thing is practically a meme. The arcade stick would have worked because the player one player two switch could have been converted to a on/off switch and then one of the switches under it could have been converted to a reset button and then the other button could have been fake with a light under it to indicate power but no.

Buying something to see how possibly bad it is.. that reminds me of my purchase of the Nintendo Virtual Boy over 10 years ago. I was like I can get a cheap theremin or a virtual boy and able to buy a couple more games for it. Even though I only got a small profit out of it selling it like a few years later.. i'm sure my cat would have destroyed it by now anyway.
