Welcome to the weekend @everyone! STFC is loaded with officers! (150+) And this can sometimes making crewing your ships confusing. In this video we go in depth through five examples to show various crews working, not working, and things that could change to help flip the outcome of battles. We've got low level fights, high level fights, and everything in between to try and teach the basics to all players.

These videos are some of my favorite because it's not enough to say "don't use this officer" or "use this officer" but explains the reasoning in laymens terms. I'm one of those players that often gets confused by the way an officer ability is worded and I need to know more simply what it does and why it works (or doesn't work).

I've watched a lot of your videos so I like to think my crews are usually on point, but there doesn't seem to be much that can be done to overcome the gap between g4 and g5 ships. I watched a g5 rare yesterday tear through an entire 45min territory capture without getting a scratch. Nobody got a shot off against it, and plenty of g4 rares went up against it. I can kill it when it hits my base and I'm properly crewed, but out in open combat... It's like playing with a cheat code. You can take down a g4 with a few g3's without too much hassle, but the next jump g4-g5 seems huge. Even the g5 uc's are tanks.

Ive got a maxed gorkon h worf n cpn tilly on my tier 4 d4 and ive suprised a few folks with it in pvp fights

Gorkon is a pretty bad officer though, like every officer hiding behind chance based triggers. IF the ship deals a crit, he has the chance to cause Hull Breach. That means you need to land a 20% chance to have a 90% chance.

One day could you please explain how/why an officer like Saru with 40% reduced weapon damage is a no go while T'laan with 20% is good? It's not intuitive. One's pvp and the other hostile, I know, but an explanation of why that makes a difference would be helpful I think.

The PVP based abilities are limited on the base values of the ship, a player has research, buildings etc thats based on those things. If those would total in 500% increased weapon damage, Saru would substract 40%, reducing it to 460%. On hostile bases abilities its different, they dont have research, they are always at base damage, they always do 100%. Reducing their damage 30% would mean, they are now at 70% Damage. TLaan and Chen furthermore get boosted by Pike/Picard and Synergie, meaning that with Chen, a hostile would only deal 3% of its initial Damage.

You mentioned recent changes to how Breach, Burn and Morale work. What changes?

That's what I was wondering. I know they changed (nerfed) burning, but wasn't aware of the other changes.

That first Horizon crew is pretty clearly a "take your time" overnight miner. Scotty = good strategy for mining further out than you could get otherwise.

15:00 The KTinga officers overlap. They have 3 officers doing the same 2 things. Criticals, hull breach. They could have used Kang Captain, Worf officer and gotten the same results. And then there would be a spare slot for increasing kinetic or energy damage.

TOS Kirk as captain w Epic Kirk: I use that group with TOS Spock. TOS Kirk as captain for the cumulative energy bonus. Epic Kirk because the other Kirk stops giving morale when there's less than 30% hull. When doubling the Kirks, you have morale and energy bonus the whole fight.. They don't do exactly the same thing..

I'm confused about Sarus officer ability. I often run him as captain on an augur with gigi and Tyler. I suppose my question is if it's a % decrease in the opposing ship, wouldn't that work more efficiently against ships with stronger weapons?

If I'm defending nodes during a TC, I use Saru, Ariam and Tyler in my Salad Shooter, and Culber, Stammets and Tilly in a battleship. And the defense buff of the Sally boosts as well. I think what Rev is saying is that a baby Saru decreasing by 40% isn't much of a benefit. Need to tier him up to get him into an effective range.

The crews u showed against miners, the player probably knew the crews were wrong, they just slapped 3 random officers on there to get going because they knew they didn't need much power to fight miners.

I have a question? How can new players find a alliance that they want to join? As had many new players want to join my alliance and cannot find us at all? As believe its they are on different server's and cannot find a alliance they want to join, so people uninstall the game because they wanted to find a specific crew?

Looking at that final crew setup, what would you suggest for a Kelvin going against the battle triangle, taking on a Valdore of greater power and research? Lorca, Killy and Honorguard Worf not cutting it 😞

Honestly on non combat mining ships does actual crews matter? There's what 2-3 mining crews if you have them all and some don't, that matter the rest are used to man them while switching out miners or idk to mine when you are to busy to play.

Two questions: 1, what changes to Morale, Burning, and Breach were made and when? 2, If Saru reduces damage by 40%, why isn't that good? It's like T'Laan or Chen but for PvP? Damage reduction happens before any other mitigation, right?

The value that Saru reduces is based on the base damage the opponent's ship deals, before research and other modifiers, so it ends up being effectively a much smaller percentage of damage reduction than it seems. Not terrible, but there are much better options.

if the opponent has 500% Damage from research, Saru would reduce that to 460. You would barely notice a change. The changes to Morale, Burning and Breach were, that it now can be refreshed while its active

Unlike Hostiles, players have a lot of research to increase damage so 40% is not much of a reduction.

@@RevDeuce Nope, I get it, plus I re-read the text of the cards. Scopely math stinks, but the wording is there. T’Laan and Chen “decrease the damage done” while Saru “decreases weapon damage”. So I understand now, thanks everyone!

I'm curious how you think I can improve my Si Vis Pacem event crew. Currently on my t6 Enterprise, I have epic Kirk t4 with Khan t4 and cartoon Mudd t2 beside him. I'm getting about 43m damage per hit which I am not complaining about as 3 hits completes the event with ease. Can it be better?

no idea why people keep using spock in pvp on tier 4 ships. I have max out Gladius that is level 32 tier 3 ships, spock never can heal gladius shield to max ...

With 6 ships you’re bound to end up with one that isn’t an ideal crew lol I have one crew for discovery and one for mining and during defense I just swap ship and send it out for points.

1:33 It's just a random miner. No amount of crewing is going to help a miner survive a fight against a warship 8 times its size. Guy probably have that crew just to slow mine.
