Personally I think a lot of cringy introverts have "protagonist syndrome." They've convinced themselves that they're an irl quirky main character who is too deep and special to be appreciated by us "background characters" 😂
It feels like these memes are the author trying to convince themselves that they are, in fact, an introvert and don't need human interaction, while at the same time desperately clinging to the only sense of community they've ever felt.

I used to buy into this introvert crap back when I was super isolated and socially anxious. Turns out it all turned out to be bullshit when I challenged myself to step into reality and connect with people on an increasingly frequent basis. Pretty much all of the 'introvert' stuff around socializing that I thought was 'part of my personality' is gone, and good riddance. Yes, some people are in situations they can't escape but most of the time the prison only exists in their mind.

Most people don't realize that the actual definition of the extroversion to introversion spectrum really only has to do with how we "recharge our batteries". If you stay at home when you're tired versus going out with friends, you're more introverted than extroverted. It has nothing to do with social abilities, how many people you like to be around, intelligence, etc.

The only thing that differentiates introverts from extroverts is what activities energize you the most. Introverts usually recharge the most from solo activities, extroverts generally from socializing. That's literally it, there's nothing about intelligence, personality, emotional capacity, anxiety, depression, etc etc that differentiates them, that shit's all common among all humans.

As a former introvert who missed out on a lot of developmental milestones during highschool, I can assure you all that there is absolutely nothing cool about being an anxiety-ridden wreck who acts like an awkward bumbling child every time the spotlight hits them. I'm also very average intellectually. People who cultivate this social anxiety as a means to validate how they're missing out in life are coping very hard. Go out and meet new people, build bridges, make connections that will help you move forward in life and find love too. You only get one chance in this life. No one is special.
Even as an introvert this is actually facts, i don't know why many introvert think the world is against them or that being open to people makes you dumb, those are very bad takes, one thing is having a low social battery and be more reserved and other is to not speak to a single human in months
I get the sentiment, but some traits are more fundamental and static, and I think with those sorts of things it’s better to be aware and accepting of them instead of being at odds with yourself 24/7. Being introverted puts you at a disadvantage in many situations, but forcing ones self to be extroverted past a certain point is only going to make you miserable

I used to have pretty bad social anxiety, as soon as I started to get better in that regard, my friend started thinking I had "become an extrovert". There are literally tons of introverts who love socializing, guys. If you relate to those memes, you're just lack social confidence. That's it. And yes, this IS a callout.

I think the main problems with these memes are the fact that most of them seem like they were created by people who have underlying social disorders (like autism, anxiety, antisocial personality disorder, etc.) but assume these symptoms are correlated to introversion instead. Unfortunately, that means a lot of people who look at these memes then assume this behavior is normal for introverts and never bother to get help for it. Then those people make memes about their supposed introversion and the cycle just repeats all over again.
Even with a lot of the people with those disorders, they still have a lot of agency in how they handle them. IMO a lot of people reinforce anxiety disorders with bad decisions and perspectives, I would argue that to a certain degree this stuff can create the mentally ill, especially personality disorders. People underestimate how much they control.
I agree tbh. Literally introverts are simply people whose social batteries run out very quickly, and need more time alone to recharge. That's it. They are perfectly able to socialize, they can also literally love being around people they like for a whole day (hey hi it's me), but then need a full day home with no social interactions because they ran out of "social stamina". I mean, it can happen that your batteries run out /while/ you're having fun with friends and you wanting to go home because you feel drained and tired, which can make people think you're a bit unsociable (because you get cranky), but definitely not as much as the memes imply. I feel like most of the memes are made, as you said, by people with social disorders who don't realize that it's not an introvert trait, it's a social disorder symptom. (Also thanks to the terrible narrative that introverts = misanthrope, when I finally managed to get MUCH better at my GAD - generalised anxiety disorder - I got told, and I quote, "are you sure you're an introvert? Aren't introvert supposed to hate people?")

Well, that's because people confuse introversion with being a loser. Introversion is actually quite common (25%-40% of the population) but being an introvert doesn't mean you dislike being around people. It just means that social interactions are tiring. That's literally all introversion means- finding social interactions tiring. Extroverts, by contrast, find social interactions energizing. Both parties like to hang out with people, provided that they're mentally healthy. Introverts just don't have as much stamina as the extroverts.

Guys, I didn't leave my house in 3 months. I actually forgot how to walk properly. Some people even thought that I died or that I moved to a different country because they didn't see me in a while. Thank you Jreg for removing the hipocrisy that cames from the introverts. Why can't we understand that extroversion and introversion are on a spectrum? We wouldn't even be able to interact with reality if we were fully introverts. Agreed on that low wisdom shit. Wisdom is the ability to see behind what's obvious, while intelligence is the ability to use what's obvious in order to find what's not obvious. So who's more intelligent by that definition? Intelligence is the process, while wisdom is the goal. Also, introversion doesn't grant you the power of understanding things in depth necessarily. The depth that you are capable of is based on the degree of your self awareness. Also, the egoism that cames with introversion makes it so that we don't even recognize that we don't even try to see things in depth. Because our definition of depth is based only on the subjective preferences, so we don't even go in areas where things may go against our understanding. As such, we are being more subjective than objective. Because the act of introversion should allow us the capacity to understand the core nature of things. How can we reach this objective if we always specialize in wrong areas and we don't even have enough data to understand where we need to specialize in the first place? We are masters of memes, jokes, pseudo stuff, esoteric stuff, but when it cames to things that are actually legitimate we lack those abilities. Why? Because we specialize in the wrong stuff. That's why change doesn't happen. Because we are supposed to go deep into things that matter and use them to create change. But how can we do that if the only deep thing that we go into are our subjective biases which keep us from exploring more before specializing? Just saw that Jreg started to became more aggressive in his approach and even if it is in a joking manner, some introverts got offended. Why? Because we are the epitome of if you are not with me, you are against me. The problem is that this definition of you are with me, changes a lot. This all cames from the ego as it sees only the discrepancies and the differences or what sperates and divides, but not what unifies is similar, or congruent to the other. This is why introverts are the most egoistic type of people. At least extroverts are forced to interact with reality and see the congruence as well when they bout heads with it, but since we, introverts stay in our bubble, we will never see the congruence but only the divergences, since we compare our model to an innaccurate perception of what reality is. And based on this, of course that we will see only the divergences. Because our mind can't fully simulate reality in it's entirety with no flaws whatsoever. We need to test and see things for ourselves. To try to adopt alternate models. To not be stuck with just one. Since we would attain a bigger picture if we would see different aspects of reality by using different models. Not to mention that all of this superiority complex is only a copying mechanism to the vulnerabilities that introverts have and for which we employ those defensive measures.

When I was in High School we all took the Myers-Briggs test for class and it said I was INFP. In college I took it again and got ENFP, because surprise! I wasn't an introvert, I was a deeply closetted transwoman now open and able to not feel awkward in social situations from crippling dysphoria related social anxiety as a result. My fiancee is an introvert and a close friend is an extrovert. They're both great nerds. Even though she's introverted, she isn't socially awkward. If anything, I know way more socially awkward people who are extroverts instead of being introverts. The only thing that makes someone introverted is if they get socially exhausted from being social. They are not inherently shy, awkward nerds. It's weird how introverts got these stereotypes attached to them. Also I don't understand how extroverts got labelled as people with no self control who love to get in your personal space. It's like simple labels that have good intentions to describe singular parts of a personality conform into these blobs that describe entire personalities.
Sometimes I wish my therapist would tell me stuff like this. @@scumparasite2014 Look, I'm sorry if you or someone near to you had a bad experience with a therapist, but you shouldn't generalize a whole category and their profession just because there are shitheads like in any other profession. There have been countless studies on how much therapy is helpful, and how much faster many people with issues (such as depression, generalized anxiety etc.) get better thanks to therapy. Also some problems require medicines because some mental health disorders are aggravated by/caused an hormone imbalance, and you literally NEED the meds to rebalance the whole thing. There are also mental health disorders that are so harsh that they literally prevent you to live a decent life, so it's very very dangerous to spin the narrative "no one can help you, you have to help yourself without therapy". It's literally like saying "oh you suffer from depression? Just go outside more". Your advices might work for people that have something very minor, but could very well kill others.

Subjective does not have the same meaning in psychology than in our everyday life and most other scientific domain. It just means that you are more oriented towards the inner world (self) as opposed to extraverts being oriented towards the outer world (collective). But it doesn't discriminate between an objective/subjective analysis of the world.

I’m starting to think that the reason social interactions don’t give people energy is because they just don’t. Some interactions are fulfilling while others are not. It isn’t an internal issue (most of the time) but an external one. In short, I imagine things like job interviews, interventions, etc would go better if there was a reward at the end like a snack or something. Alternatively, “introverted” people should be more honest about why they want to leave the conversation/ wanting to leave it and “extroverted” people shouldn’t take offense. Basically, don’t be a bitch if she says she’s not into you.

I'm an extrovert so far on one side of the spectrum that most of the time I feel drained from being alone, So I make friends on the street and in public all the time I'm loud and friendly and awkward and annoying and in the past have been called charming and "safe" HOWEVER I don't go up to people who are reading a book or clearly with earbuds in by themselves... Like, they clearly are doing this and want to be left alone because it's physically isolating and takes full concentration and undivided attention to do, which doesn't leave any room for socializing 🤷♀️🤣

God i hate all of these. Im an introvert, because I desperately need alone time to recharge after being with people. But I like being with them, especially my friends! Social anxiety makes it hard but I like learning about people and I'd love it if extroverts came to talk to me. Also idk whats so bad about small talk. Its easy because you dont need to worry about it much - deep conversations are difficult to hold and I think they require a certain amount of trust between both parties... "i hate small talk" just feels like a meaningless catchphrase at this point

This one girl I know does this heinous thing where she thinks that I am a) an introvert (which is a stupid thing to say to anyone, at all, which she has, repeatedly) and b) she helped me "come out of my shell" around her. She told me this after knowing me for a week, where she got to observe me be infinitely more confident in all situations social or otherwise than her, and thought I wouldn't have some shit to say about it. The reason she thinks this? I was really, really tired when we met, and wasn't feeling very chatty. The next time we met, I was my usual self. She thinks that was all her. I think about this every day.
it's not a matter of being introverted/extroverted, it's just a matter of finding the right group of friends or community that you're comfortable talking to. everyone wants that.
I'm an extrovert, but my mom used to beat the living shit out of me for nonsensical things when i was a kid, which taught me to keep my mouth shut unless i very carefully choose my words. Because of that I very slowly obtain friends and overall socializing is extremely hard - it's not that i fear talking, I've just been conditioned not to. Because of that things like getting a job, talking to people I don't know and making conversations is very hard for me. But I'm tough, so despite these things i have a nice job, very close friends and a loving gf. I'm just quieter than most. And I'm still a fucking extrovert cause you know, talking to people makes me feel alive
I'm extraverted and was hoping to make new friends before the pandemic derailed social interaction even more than it already was by the internet. I've felt trapped in a hell of isolation while people online have been telling me joy oh joy they can just stay inside playing video games instead of talking to people. I hate this. What is humanity.

I've had to not focus too much on it. At the end of the day humans are social creatures though and not being able to see basically any friends is detrimental to mental health - especially as an extrovert. My mental health might be irrelevant to you obviously; you don't know me. But in the grand scheme of things for ME and many others, that pain is absolutely valid.

I've been saying this for so long. I've met a billion people calling themselves introverts, but only a select few calling themselves extroverts. Shouldn't it be more like 50/50? I've just stopped using the terms completely because they feel useless.

Most people are introverted or extroverted depending on how comfortable they are in some situation. This is usually a function of the environment, people, conversation and alcohol. You are not a special snowflake just because you dont like talking to strangers. It actually takes time and practice to develop social skills.

I was an introvert for most of my life due to abuse and not understanding how to properly interact with them without being absolutely terrified of the outcome. I would freak out meeting any new person. Like actually freak out. I met a person in college who was extremely extroverted. She said hi to literally every person she passed and had no issue saying whatever she thought. She became my best friend and actually helped me overcome my introverted tendencies and social anxiety. So yeah. I'm with jreg here. If an extrovert wants to be your friend and they are someone you could enjoy being around fucking accept that shit and better yourself by taking notes. :)
