Well, if you run on it every hour you are around anyone who could get someone pregnant, pregnancy is unlikely to happen. Not impossible, I suspect, but I don't want to think about the mechanics of that, so I'll just leave that there 😕
What I like to say when people come with "basic biology" is: "Yeah, no, I totally agree! Transgender, intersex, non-binary, yeah, that's all nonsense! Same as root calculation or probability calculation! There's just plus and minus, basic math! Everything more complicated than what I learned in 1st grade isn't real!"
Those are the same people who think colleges and universities are "liberal" brainwashing institutions, and who want intelligent design, abstinence-only sex ed, and a whitewashed version of history taught in primary schools. They seem to pride themselves on their ignorance.
The trouble is, you *do* get people who say things like 'whoever needed to use Maths in their life anyway' (usually people who find it difficult). There's nothing wrong with being less intellectually able than others, but there is something very wrong with pretending you know more than you actually do and there seem to be *so* *many* prejudiced people who are just, well, a sandwich short of a picnic...
@@JaneAustenAteMyCat seen some random ass people on the internet argue with actual doctors. how narcissistic do these people have to be to think they know better then an actual doctor that has been working and studying in their field for 5+ years?
@@JaneAustenAteMyCat While I agree with your overall point of people pretending to know more than they do, I have to disagree with calling people who have a hard time with math "less intellectually able." Some people's brains just aren't hardwired to do math all that well and lean more towards other areas of schooling, and on top of that methods of teaching can make it difficult. It took me until recently to learn long division, despite being in my mid 20s, because someone showed me one of the newer methods they teach now, and it finally clicked. I went to college and got a degree, not knowing how to do division by hand. I'm certainly not less able, I just didn't go major in math. People need different things. I've personally always learned that stuff more visually, so thats why seeing it done that way made it click and I can do straight up long division now. Furthermore, kids with home lives that are, let's call it "not ideal," bring a lot of that home stuff to school can be further behind academically. It's not because they are "less able," it's because their brain is trying to deal with the emotional and mental junk with on top of having to do the work to learn. As you can imagine, trying to learn gets put on the back burner for those kids, then they grow up and they still don't get it because they were left behind academically. This doesn't mean they are "less able" in any way, they were just not mentally in a place they could learn. And I'm not trying to be rude to you, I'm just trying to point out that not doing well with numbers doesn't mean someone is "less intellectually able", which is often used as a socially polite way to say "disabled". Unfortunately it does seem, in my personal experience, that a lot of the people who say "who needs math in their life anyway" have also experienced some of these issues I talked about. But that pertains to more of a discussion of how subjects like math are taught and the issues of home lives and the issues of low income vs high income families than it does intellectual ability. Edited for clarity.
If i were to be a gynecologist and had a trans guy as a patient, I would say "lucky for you I'm also a GUYnecologist" and I think Im gonna be a gynecologist for this sole purpose
As someone who's auntie died from COVID at Christmastime 2020, I find it absolutely disgusting that people can deny its existence as well. Pretty much the whole council estate where I live knew and loved my auntie so much and the only ones that could go to her funeral were her kids, grandkids, and her partner. None of the rest of us were allowed, and so instead we organised with her adult kids and partner for her coffin to go through the streets before making its way to the crematorium so we all got a chance to say goodbye. My mum and I had to stand by our front gate and say our goodbyes as her coffin was driven through the streets, and then we had to go inside and watch her funeral on a livestream on my laptop. I'll never forget it. It was awful. I still don't feel like I have closure. All the while, people call it a hoax and say that deaths like my auntie's are fabricated. It makes me so angry.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the rough journey your aunt, you and your family had to go though, and the grief and loss of someone that way.
I am so sorry for your loss, we've lost three in my family as well. And I regret to inform you that there's unfortunately people in the care industry who also think covid is a scam, or at least overblown, I've found they normally shut up after I mention dead relatives but I've got no filter or patience, stay strong, stay safe, you know how, take care
Okay, this is so random but I have to share it somewhere. Okay so I’m trans and it’s my birthday and my friends gave me tiny cupcakes with trans colors and I’m so happy. Any ways can’t wait to watch this and hope everyone has a wonderful day!
The part about sitting at the bedside of a dying patient hit me. I briefly worked as a correspondence writer in my governments covid unit. We got an email from an ICU nurse urging the government to keep restrictions in place. She told us she had sat in her car before work thinking about unaliving herself because she just couldn't handle any more death and helplessness in her job. A couple days later we got an email from a different (non-ICU) nurse saying restrictions were BS because none of HER patients had died from covid. It's infuriating how people who have been completely insulated from the actual destruction of this pandemic feel like they have the authority to say its not a big deal.
That gluten one was lol. I had an ER nurse angrily tell me "gluten doesn't exist, does it!! Gluten isn't real!" I was like um...a protein in wheat doesn't exist? It very much does, and it very much made me, a celiac, sick. But ok, then. You do you, I guess.
@@rosiefay7283 it's really not that hard. A basic nurse just gets a 2 year degree. Most of the nurses just doing grunt work, like taking vitals, checking you in and such will just be the 2 year degree type or nursing assistants (which is a couple months training). They're cheaper to employ then an RN. An RN will have a 4 year degree and have more responsibilities.
Gluten is so real it's extracted to make seitan, which for those who don't know, is a vegan meat substitute. So not only is it an allergen, it's vegan food. That seems pretty real to me! Sorry you had to go through that. X
I was a little bit disappointed. I know this was meant to be humorous, but Doctor Mama Jones kept talking about allergies to gluten and never mentioned coeliac disease, which is an autoimmune disorder, not an allergy. Oh and _I_ know gluten exists because it makes me throw up!
@@Tegdirb64 Yeah, I understand what you mean. However, I've found that the majority of people don't understand anything BUT allergies and I get tired of explaining it, so I just say 'allergy' as well. I mean, it's hard enough to get my boss to remember I don't eat leftover cake or sandwiches in the break room (he keeps offering every time) so it's asking way too much for him to also take the time to understand what Celiac is ... and remember that, too. If I need people to take it seriously, "allergy" is the only thing that gets the point across.
Alternate title: the 2 sweetest people on the planet try to laugh off the collective frustration all of us feel over the perpetually ignorant and misinformed masses.
Replace half the dose of whatever prescription you're taking with 30 minutes on a treadmill. Running on a treadmill is an effective form of birth control?! Who knew?!?!
The replacing medication with treadmills one.... Yeah, sure, I'll throw out all my anti-depressants, antacids, antihistamines, inhalers, vitamins and painkillers, and just replace it all with treadmills. 😂 As MDJ said with calling them from the hospital, I'll call them when I'm laying on the treadmill, having fallen from arthritis, bleeding through to my trousers and throwing up from horrific cramps caused by endometriosis that gets worsened by intense exercise, unable to breathe from allergy and exercise-induced breathing issues (they don't know if it's asthma or not yet), suffering acid reflux, and on top of it all, wanting to kms cause I cut my anti-depressants. 🙃 Let's see if that person who said this BS is willing to give me a lift to the hospital. 😂😂😂 /s I'm so sick of pill-shaming. My pills keep me alive ffs.
I have a chronic disorder and I'm stable now and doing OK. I often get comments from family saying I should stop taking so many meds bc I'm OK now. I want to scream at them and tell them I'm OK bc I'm taking my meds every day like the doctor ordered and it's for life.
I've heard so many people talk about going off medication as if it's the End Goal for every single person who's ill. Like, some problems are chronic, Dean, they're for life, dude. I've actually thought for a moment about what would happen if I quit all my medication, and the end result is not nice. :'D
@@LadyNikitaShark THIS. Some people take meds for something, feel better and then quit because they feel better. But if the doctor didn't tell you to quit as soon as you feel better YOU DO NOT QUIT. Even if it's something that isn't chronic/for life, there are medications that you need to FINISH before you quit. 😭 Like antibiotics! Or other things that you have to MAKE SURE the disease is GONE before you stop. Just because you don't feel anything doesn't mean it's no longer there, ready to pounce back as soon as you quit your treatment!
Awesome collab! But the “go to a dr office & if you don’t die contagion isn’t real” one made me laugh because I’m living proof of that being nonsense: I live alone, am disabled and quite a hermit. By late last month, I hadn’t gone anywhere or come into contact with another human for over four months. Then I had multiple appointments in one day for several medical reasons (routine tests, etc), as well as finally getting my booster (I was already appropriately double-vaxxed). I was double masked the whole time, including a KN95. Spent around 3 hours in various medical offices and waiting rooms, and encountered at least one person who was there because they probably had omicron. Aaaand… yup, I got it. That shit is unbelievably contagious! In a probably futile attempt to fend off the nutters: yes, I had a decidedly unpleasant several days (for clarity, this was *after* the booster side effects, and was unequivocally Covid), exacerbated by my existing chronic conditions. But even so, the symptoms were relatively mild (though I could have done without the GI nastiness!), and I was never in need of intervention or hospitalization, even without yet having the additional protection of the booster. Unlike the unvaccinated friends and relatives of other folks I know who have ended up much worse off… Still, thanks to the variant largely caused by human negligence, all it took even for someone like me to get the virus was a single outing to a doctor’s office. Because it bears repeating: this shit is mind-blowingly contagious! Folks: get vaccinated, wear your mask, wash your hands, keep your distance when you can, test and quarantine as needed. Hope y’all stay well!
My sister and nieces had primarily GI symptoms as well! Went to the pediatrician with the 3 yo who then tested for covid. My sister was confused by that since it hasn't been as widely noted. I can't help but wonder if that has affected omicron's contagiousness (less people recognizing such symptoms and testing). Glad you're feeling better!
I had this argument with my mom and aunt and was trying to tell them that masks work because why else would doctors wear them for hours and hours on end and my aunt was trying to tell me that doctors don't wear masks for hours on end and I told her yes doctors will go for like 24 hours in the surgery and wear the mask the entire time. Doctors will go for surgeries for 10 plus hours straight and wear the mask for the entire time and they was trying to pretend that they don't. They then asked how the masks allow you to breathe if they're trapping virus particles and we couldn't get her to understand that a CO2 and oxygen molecule are far far smaller than a virus. Like we couldn't get them to understand that the viruses are made up of molecules so of course a single molecule is going to have an easier time passing through a barrier than a large collection of molecules. I mean there's a reason why painters and hazmat workers wear masks because the larger molecules are stopped by the mask but CO2 and oxygen molecules can pass through them
@@pheonixrises11 no they actually stopped arguing because they figured out that my brother and I were more knowledgeable than they were they were just trying to push their points in the first place because they thought they were correct. "gluten allergies were made up by millennials to make them feel special" Me last year: *dying because of undiagnosed coeliac disease* yeah nah man, it's completely made up. I vomit after eating gluten for fun. My stomach slowly dies not because of gluten but because it wants too. 100%
I sometimes told people "Oh, I can eat stuff with gluten, and if I keep doing it I will eventually die, in a very awful slow fashion, though." Honestly, I hope the diet has worked for you, starting the diet after 6 months of lower back pain made it subside after about 2 weeks....man I was so happy. When I went on HRT (Transfemale here) about 2 years after starting it, I suddenly got intense stomach cramps as if I had ate something with gluten and immediately went over all my meals, and couldn't find anything at which I had made a mistake, turns out HRT can also cause that...but needless to say I was confused when that happened :P .
Yep, being diagnosed with malnutrition and anemia and being a grown adult weighing little more than a 12 year old, then not being able to eat at 90% of places, "special" is not the word I would use to describe how I felt either.
Fun fact: Before insulin could be obtained for diabetics to use, they DID cut out all carbs and sugars (what raises your blood sugar) and you know what happened? They starved to death. Because at this time their options were broth. But especially if you're type one diabetic this cannot help. Your blood sugar can still fluctuate on its own.
Ooof I'm a newish diabetic and if I cut anything that raised my blood sugar, I'd have issues eating anything. I can have spot on numbers from a plate of fries at noon and been high from a protein-rich salad at supper.
That isn’t really true. The main reason diabetics starved to death with out insulin wasn’t the diets it was that insulin is an anabolic hormone and your peripheral cells don’t absorb glucose or much of any food without being stimulated by insulin.
Type 1 diabetics' blood sugar still goes up if you don't eat anything, because your liver makes glucose. Type 1 diabetics will die without insulin no matter what we eat.
@@16poetisa This is really sad, too. I remember seeing an excerpt of an early insulin patient's diary, going into raptures about getting to eat mac and cheese for the first time.
To add to doctors didn't wash their hands in olden times, surgeons use to be seen as better and more experienced the dirty and bloodied the aprons. There's a reason we called doctors sawbones
If I remember correctly, when American president James Garfield was shot, he would have probably survived if it hadn't been for doctors searching for the bullets with unwashed hands, leading to the wound becoming infected and Garfield dying in horrible pain... yeah, we've come a long way in terms of hygene since then.
See also the common practices of Crimean War doctors. Their answer to everything was to just amputate, without ever washing their hands or their tools. You can imagine what it was like in those hospitals, with piles of hacked-off parts just sitting around, and the doctors eating food and then going to operate on their patients with the same dirty hands. Just like in the US Civil War, more soldiers died of infections after the battles, than of the initial injuries themselves.
I heard they would go from autopsies to delivering babies and that's why so many babies died. The doctor who tried to institute hand washing was labeled a quack.
@@ichbinben. I'm pretty sure we found out about germs and washing your hands shortly before that happened. If I remember correctly I think the doctors who were operating on him just straight up didn't believe in germs.
That poor fart girl ended up in the hospital because of the diet she was eating to fulfill her orders. I mean hats off to her for actually doing it, she could have literally just bought some stink spray.
As a type 1 diabetic, that take made me cringe so hard lol. Clearly that "doctor" hasn't heard of basal insulin, as in the baseline that everybody needs to survive (that type 1s can't make)! All the types of diabetes are so widely misunderstood, so thanks for trying to set that guy straight!
So bad. I was happy to hear MDJ's sensible correction on that one as well. So used to hearing things like 'does your blood sugar ever go high or low? then you must be a wildly uncontrolled, non-compliant patient'
Very relatable though lol. My mother used to work for Hospice, an medical care organization that one can only sign up for if one is within six months of death. They try and make sure you go out in the utmost comfort. They kept getting bad reviews because almost every patient who signed up would die
I am religious and these things hurt my brain. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and supporter. I believe God gave us brains to use and made us who we are - including gay, lesbian, bi, trans . . .
The one about replacing your medication with running on a treadmill made me laugh as I'm taking antibiotics for a chest infection. Then I had a coughing fit.
Good thing that one can say "Get well soon" and know it to be true, because antibiotics work. I would have died about 20 times had it not been for antibiotics. No wait, I would have died from the appendicitis I had as a kid, even before that. Little did I know I should have just went for a run, that would have been much more effective than surgery.....
Hopefully you feel better soon! I have asthma, which is aggravated by exercise, I can guarantee if I hopped on a treadmill without my inhalers (daily and rescue), well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty
I take 10-14 medications a day, both for my mental and physical health. I'm 34. Every time I've tried to stop with my psychotropic medications I've become ill and suicidal. Every time I've tried to stop my somatic medication the symptoms get worse. I wish I could take less meds, I really do. But when you have a 20% probability of dying in suicide because of only one of your illnesses (so in combination it's a lot higher) - shouldn't you choose to medicate instead? The biggest risk for suicide is when people with bipolar disorder stop taking their medication. This pill shaming literally kills people!
I hit the gym regularly but a doctor visit showed I have had a chronic bladder infection that almost reached my kidneys . Fortunately it cleared out after 48 hours of taking antibiotics.
While running for 60 minutes on a treadmill will probably have many effects on me - I don't quite think my epilepsy will vanish into the darkest corner of hell. Sadly.
My anxiety disorder most likely won’t disappear from the treadmill, nor will my ADHD. Although I do enjoy running, my treadmill is currently broken so even if it would magically cure my mental illnesses, can’t try it 🤷🏼
I actually had a big attack at camp with elementary school once due to low blood sugar along with flickering light (sun shining through the trees) due to intense running in a game we played...so yea... I'm thankfully (or so it seems at least) over it now, but man having practically all the memories from that camp wiped out sucks...because from the memory book my classmates made, it was the best compared to the one before...
@@thecreator8860 worst thing was the first big attack I had (was 7 I think) left my mind so scrambled that the 14 hours they kept me in observation (mainly because the attack only stopped after 25 minutes the moment an ambulance crew gave me a sedative of some sort) is logged in my mind as a full week. When my mom said it wasn't and the neurologist showed my file listing 14 hours from being admitted to being discharged it felt as if the whole world was lying to me.
9:41 “But you don’t need math to prove that car crashes can’t kill you. Get into your car and spend an hour driving Take note of whether or not you died. If you didn’t die, you now know that cars *cannot* get into crashes.”
My brother has type 1 diabetes, I can’t remember what his blood sugar was when he got diagnosed but it was so high that the hospital staff were shocked 😳 The not eating anything with sugar is just ridiculous, for starters that means no fruit plus sometimes diabetics need to eat something sugary when they have a hypo because their blood glucose level is too low
Pre insulin (and during shortages) pretty much the only thing that kept diabetics alive for a short time was a diet of nothing but cabbage soup, apparently. Sounds like a super fun way to spend your last days on earth and definitely not a sustainable 'treatment'!
12:07 Type 1 Diabetic here, can confirm that I would be dead no matter how I ate. In fact I almost did die without insulin, so yeah thanks for your “hot take” but no I will not be going into DKA thank you very much.
Lulz, I'm not diabetic so I don't know how Insulin works and I know it's extremely expensive in the states but I definitely would believe diabetic people before a random person on Twitter.
@@TiredHumanBeing Insulin regulates glucose intake by the cells in the body. I don't recall exactly how, but Wikipedia will have the answer. Glucose is what fuels cells. No glucose, and the cell dies. So no, no a Type-1 diabetic _cannot_ cut down sugar intake to match their lack of insulin. That quack from Texas needs to have his license revoked. Type-1 is caused by the destruction of the "Islets of Langerhans", regions in the pancreas where insulin is created. Last I heard, it's not entirely clear _why_ the "Islets of Langerhans" get destroyed. Type-2 diabetes is when your pancreas is producing enough insulin for the size your body _should be,_ not the size you _are._ Weight loss and a proper diet will help with that, just like it will help with high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, and many other illnesses caused by obesity and poor nutrition. But as someone else said, there are also other causes of Type-2 diabetes. Obesity and poor nutrition may be the most common cause of Type-2 diabetes in the US, but that doesn't make it the _sole_ cause.
Also Type 1 diabetic here and can confirm no insulin would absolutely mean dead regardless of the food eaten. Plus all food increases blood sugar in some way, shape or form. It did make me laugh though.... the lack of understanding around diabetes is a little crazy :) Hope the T1D is treating you well 💉💙
I'd love to see people who don't like masks actually enforce scent free policies and stop pollution and smoking, which are reasons that many people wear masks. I need allergy masks due to scents and smoking, so... I needed a mask to go to classes in 2019 as one prof would wear a cologne that would literally make me cry due to an allergic reaction and yet he kept asking me to take it off. Like no, you take a shower in unscented soap first.

@@ashergibson9969 well, I'm sure it's because women couldn't typically be doctors back then, unfortunately. Think of all the medical advancements that could have been made if half the population weren't gatekeeping the field from the other half. :(

Before my thyroid (I had Hashimoto's) was removed I had to take antidepressants (I still have depression, but not as bad) and ..so many people told me exercise would help...to stop taking or half my dosage (spoiler, neither worked)..
Exercise can help depression, as can many other things like diet, routines, sunshine, social interactions, etc. I've yet to see someone replace depression meds for exercise. It's a risky move when it's not a doctor suggesting it.
@@tinkeramma Yes, it can help - it's not a cure all as you said. Stopping just to exercise is detrimental. My thyroid seems to have been causing a few issues - and now that it's gone it's doing much better. Bodies are just like that XD.

Ugh, some people...my nephew once nearly died when his egg allergy surfaced...he has an EpiPen ever since... I only have a gluten allergy, but I used to be fucking allergic to a lot of fruits. HRT (I'm a transfemale) changed this and now I can eat most of those fruits, but after about a year on hormones I became even more allergic to farmer's cale, carrots, endive and potatoes (all when raw, when it's boiled: no problem, but preparing them requires gloves and with farmers cale due to water droplets flying in my face during cutting I better also wear a safety screen). The people who reason that glutenallergies only come with nothing else are stupid, it's actually a well known fact many people with celiac disease have other ones... I hope you've been feeling better since your thyroid removal.

This totally made my day! Such a great collab. And, yes, as a Christian, I believe science is a gift from God. I do not understand the idea of not actively participating in God’s plan by doing our part-I wouldn’t pray to pass a test and then not study, not any different when it comes to getting vaccinated.
I always like to share a story with fellow Christians who are against vax and stuff, actually managed to convince someone on Facebook to change his mind about them. It was a time when there was a gigantic flood, and a man was stuck on the top of his house. He prayed to God to safe him. Not a minute later, a guy came by with a boat to rescue him. The man denied, because God would safe him. Half an hour went by, and his feet were already in the water. He prayed to God again. Another boat came by, a rescue boat this time. But the man denied, because God would safe him. A long time later, only his head above water, he prayed to God again. And a helicopter showed up. But yet, the man denied again, because God would safe him. Eventually, the man drowned. When he came to heaven, he asked: I have prayed three times to be safed, yet I was ignored? The respons: we send help three times, but you didn't accept it.

my dad and sibling have actual issues with gluten (it triggers bad migraines for both of them) and one time i took my sibling to eat pizza because i saw they had a gluten free option but they said not to eat it if you have actual issues with gluten it's sooooo frustrating :(
Those are the companies lifting on the hype: the products are better called "low on gluten" compared to "free of gluten". I've had this problem myself a couple of times as well, it's fucking annoying. If they want to be absolutely sure they can't stand gluten or it's a wheat allergy, they can get themselves tested. There are reasonably non-invasive tests these days by drawing blood to check for a particular gene because upon seeing it active there can be a big chance someone has celiac's disease. Unfortunately if you want to be absolutely sure a biopsy is the only way...
Remember, you're struggles are always valid and they are just as important as anyone else's. You're a strong, and worthy person. Keep going, I will always believe in you, you are worth it.
The vitamin C one has me rolling cuz I'm allergic to citrus. I can't even used vitamin c drops when i am sick. If I did what they suggested I would be in an unimaginable amount of pain. So I think I'll stick with my usual meds thanks lol
As someone who is religious, God gave us brains (through evolution). He wants us to use them. People who think God is anti-science are just the stupidest.
According to Twitter, diabetics can replace half of their insulin with running on a treadmill for 30 minutes. I'm a trans guy, I can't even replace my prescribed testosterone with exercise (which actually does marginally and temporarily increase testosterone) I'd love to know how all the other hormones, antibiotics and other chemicals needed by our bodies can be replaced with exercise. Given some medications are to supplement nutritional needs with deficiencies, does this mean we can also replace eating food with just exercising more? Maybe humans can actually just photosynthesise without knowing it and if we run barefoot we'll get all our nutrients from the soil. Hmm looks like I already wrote a better sci-fi than that person's tweet about exercise. 🤔

I’m not a doctor by any means, just a senior undergrad biochem student, but the family I live with has gotten covid before the vaccines. The wife almost died, and now has permanent lung damage. The husband had relatively mild symptoms comparatively and now believes just about every conspiracy theory out there. But it is just so frustrating that these people who haven’t even gone to college think they are schooling doctors and PhD scientists who spent years studying their fields. It’s so invalidating and demeaning.
@@Dutch3DMaster He was actually telling them to his son, who is a scientist, in the waiting room at the hospital while she was being put on a ventilator and no one knew if she was going to make it or not. He just has a special breed of audacity.
@@goofeygoober6095 Wow...just wow... I had someone in the supermarket once behind me when I was having a headache due to medication I am taking when mouth masks were mandatory here. The cashier asked how I was doing (she knows about the medication) so I mentioned having a headache and while packing my groceries the person behind me came up to me and mentioned "You don't have a headache because of medication, it's because of your mask, remember that", and I felt like punching him in his face because 2 months prior I had heard my 31 year old neighbour, someone I had actually played outside with when I was little had died from the virus... I somehow managed to reply with something like "Suuuure..." with very serious sarcasm in my voice and he tried to go on about it...
Covid conspiracies piss me off soooooo much!!! I literally just recovered from death’s door after getting Covid a second time after being vaccinated 3-times! I have lupus and take chemo and plaquenil to suppress my immune system, and I was sick from the last week of December until finishing my antibiotics for Covid pneumonia last weekend. Still having massive breathing problems, and worrying about waking up dead, from just the sheer pressure on my lungs while I’m asleep……. 🤷🏼♀️🤯
As someone with full blown celiacs, I have a love/hate relationship with the fad gluten free diet crowd. On one hand, they sometimes have had people thinking all gluten allergies are fake and I’ve gotten violently ill; on the other hand they brought a ton of visibility to it so now I have way more options at the grocery store and restaurants. 🤷♀️
Someone else may have already mentioned it, but The Butchering Art by Dr. Lindsey Fitzharris is a great book about Joseph Lister. He was the first doctor to apply germ theory to surgery.
Ahhh yes, runnin two hrs a day on a treadmill will provide me all the benefits of adderall, spironolactone, estradiol, and progesterone. How cud i not have seen this obvious fact before xD
for the “why do we think we can create something better than god?” comment i’m remind of a quote originally about transitioning, but that also applies to medicine and a whole host of other things. i may be misquoting here but the general sense was “God gave us wheat but not bread, so that we too can experience the joy of creation.”
hi jamie im gettingmy first binder soon and im so excited and I just want to thank you for giving me the courage to ask my mum for one so thank you! :)
The part about God giving us brains is so true. It drives me crazy when people say they won't take medication/have surgery because "God will save them" maybe God is gonna save you via the hands of the surgeon?!?!!!
"I'll replace my exercise induced asthma medication with exercise" Sounds about right XD (I, too, have exercise induced asthma, and would not do well if I tried replacing my meds with exercise)
8:20 That just sounds horrible, losing a patient and then getting blamed in a rediculous way like that. (Of course we should ask doctors if we think a mistake is being made and second opinions are a great tool, but not like this)
5:52 ah yes, let me just replace my antidepressants and anxiety pills with running. surely i won't get scared out of my mind or hate myself even more. /s
damn, someone should've told my dad sooner he doesn't need to take his blood thinning meds anymore since he started running also, what do disabled people who literally can't run do? and will running really heal my epilepsy? my dad's gf once tripped while running and broke her shoulder, so I feel like having a seizure while running might be dangerous :/
I also have exercised induced asthma and had gym teachers all the time telling me I could do x thing even with asthma- like I'd get it if they said this AFTER having my inhaler but they'd say this when I was ASKING FOR IT.
Ahhh yes omg, I love Mama Doctor Jones! Pretty sure the germ theory was debunked during The Plague. 🐀 Lol MDJ whispering in the background "I'm in hell." Same. 🤦♀️
5:06 "Vitamin C cures all diseases" Me, who has Favism and cannot eat a lot of vitamin C or else I'll need a blood transfusion: I guess I can't cure myself
10:30 The problem is that 'basic' has multiple meanings: It can mean 'fundamental', as in everything comes back to it and if it falls apart everything falls apart; or 'simple', as in the aspects/versions of the subject that are easiest to understand. People think science works by the first definition, when it's really the second.
