During the Sun discussion, don't forget Romance Dawn, the one-shot manga Oda made that eventually would lead to making One Piece (And OP first chapter name). While "Dawn" in this context is meant for the metaphorical meaning of a beginning, I think this still breadcrumbs into Oda's perspective of Luffy being this bright sunshine of freedom in the world of One Piece. And that doesn't have to necessitate that he was planning Nika all the way from the start, just to have Sun imagery surround Luffy.
I don’t think it’s ever been established that the fruit tells you it’s name. This idea comes from Ernie’s lobby, when it was said that you learn its name after you eat it. However, all that means is that you test the powers and then you will know what it is
At 46:45 they say that being a woman doesn’t hurt your reputation. I don’t agree with that statement at all though. You mention big mom but she is more of an oddity than an example of normalcy. There is a present stigma within One Piece’s world that women are inferior similarly to reality. This is very clearly explored through zoro and his story with kuina as well as sanjis character arc which culminated in his moment with robin in onigashima. Even respected women like boa Hancock are primarily valued for their beauty which is part of the whole reason for her admiration of Luffy. Sexism is very real within One Piece’s society and I don’t think it is a reach to assume that if Crocodile was outed as AFAB it would greatly impact his reputation or at least he would fear that it would
Seeing alot of youtubers saying that new empress of amazon lily, which is obviously really dumb but none of them seem to realise that has an implication that boa and luffy would be siblings if the empresses of amazon lily are the children of the previous monarch like most other monarchies
Also I reread the Luffy vs Kaido scene. Kaido calls Luffy and his friends the Heroes Wano has been waiting for but Luffy doesn't agree to it or even acknowledge it at all. Luffy still rejects the notion of Heroism in Egghead as well saying he has no interest in it.
Hey guys Thanks as always for featuring answering my questions. to be real with ya it gets harder and harder for me to find bad opinions so i might just ask regular questions if I run out. but I do still got a few more to suggest. 1. Live action second season cast. The one piece live action second season cast was revealed. I know ya guys don't like the live action that much (neither do I really) but I'd still be interested in what your thoughts are and are you guys interested at all in what the second season may bring. 2. Bonney mimicking nika ruins the power system. Something that was brought up mainly by King of lightning. I personally think it's no where near as bad as people say but what are your thoughts. 3. What are your thoughts on all the one piece films and Filler episodes. A daunting question I know but I honestly wanna know your thoughts on the various films and especially filler episodes, and not just G8 I'm talking like the warship island arc, Ocean dream arc, ice hunter arc, and even that one time the strawhats got stuck in a theater and did terrible acting. also here's a bonus question: What are your thoughts one the spongebob characters as admirals memes.
RE: You saying OP-World not having a big enough problem with Transphobia for Crocodile to hide that Connection. Didn't the guy that Ivankov forcefemmed in Impel Down say that his father became a laughing stock after Ivankov changed his gender?
@@emperorluffy6001 I read the chapter again. It's admittedly kinda ambigious, what happened aside from the sex change. "Fifteen years ago my father was a great king. Then he went to the Kamabakka queendom and came back a woman. His Kingdom and our family were torn apart. I used to be a prince, but now I'm just a lousy pirate." So his mother explicitly came back. She didn't abandon her family.
Just wanna clarify that Wat’s Bleach video, specifically why I’ll never stop loving Bleach, was deleted because of copyright, I think the same is true for the other Nisekoi video they had
I LOVE BLEACH..kubo gives us so much foreshadow and actually delivered. So when the OP community RAGS AND SHIT on kubo for ass pulls and retcon. I get to angry annd feel like being a Gantz character and killing those
I am not a OP fan....it wS my frist big three and IOVED it......then alabasta drag and i just drop..then picked back up and skypiea was just "eh" But everything up to landing on alabasta was great. ..but Chopper has THE BEST BACKSTORY arc its second to sanji but yeah
I do kinda get the oh you only caught up during covid meanwhile before covid you watched always sunny 6times friends 7times dexter 2time got 3time rewatched Naruto 3times(both parts) but one piece oh too long only do that when I'm grounded
I do agree that people do make comparisons to real-world stuff, like Kaido = Big Pharma, and so on too literally. Granted they can think that if they want and if that's what they feel makes the story more impactful/enjoyable to them. Just treating it like the only way to view it/other opinions or ideas are wrong is the problem. Too 'America-brained' as you say. But I also disagree with that 'Oda is Japanese' take on it. One Piece has just so much influence from all sorts of cultures and whatnot far beyond just Japan. Heck, part of the point of Wano is just focus so heavily on Japanese culture and history that it's an exception to the rest of the OP world. I feel like it's far more likely that Oda took inspiration from such real world issues/history then it would be for most other mangaka to do so. Not saying that any of them are one-to-one or have to be based on anything specific, but the possibility of inspiration of things outside of Japan are certainly likely.
Oda definitely takes from a wide variety of ideas the point with Oda is Japanese is more so a critique of the hyper American readings. Like the people who say Fish man island is MLK and Malcom X, Kaido is big pharma and poor communities, and now according to a reply Alabasta is the wars in the Middle East. When I’d argue all of those ideas are much more broad than just that one real life instance
@@ItIsWhatItIs-53376 I mean can you go more in depth on Alabasta and conflicts in the Middle East I’ve never heard such a reading before and I don’t really get it
@@ItIsWhatItIs-53376 what’s that smoking gun? Because honestly I still don’t see it, it just seems like a villain tries to take over kingdom from the shadows story. There’s plenty of them, hell Dressrosa and Wano are examples of plans like that succeeding. Like I can understand Otohime is MLK even if I disagree, but this seems so completely out of left field. Are you referring to a specific event? If so maybe that’d help me get it.
@@ItIsWhatItIs-53376 I agree the germa have nazi vibes although I think Skypiea is probably inspired by several native people displacement stories not just North America specifically But alabasta I’m still not getting. Like admittedly my age is showing here but how much was the Middle East in the zeitgeist of 2000’s Japan? Also I’m pretty sure it’s alabasta, like alabaster the rock associated with Egypt
About the vivre cards, you tried debunking my previous comment by sighting sbs chapter 669, but all oda stated in that chapter was where usopp held his pop greens and then said that he wrote it into the film to try to be consistent with where usopp’s garden is, he even said that he would write about where usopp garden later on in the manga but he doesn’t have time for it right now. All that says is that film z incorporates canon elements, which no shit, luffy is canon character that’s incorporated in the movie and also you misremembered what oda said in sbs chapter 914, he verbatim states “It would bog down everything down to stop and explain them all, so my idea is, if it’s not central to the story, just breeze through and take everything in stride, The sbs and bonus material are for people who really want to know everything” in the first sbs he implies that film z is not a substitute for the manga and he would draw usopp’s garden later, in the second sbs he implies that he won’t explain everything about the story and treats the bonus material as something for those who desire greater knowledge on the series.
I seen Fairy Tail entire series at least twice and I’m reading the manga for the first time now. A opinion that I always didn’t like is “Fairy Tail doesn’t have any good character writing or themes for said characters or any characters
I didnt like the section about noonon. No need to talk down on him so hard just because his content is different than yours. I like how he brings up other subjects and relates them to one piece. Also there is a big difference between retcons and retroactive foreshadowing. Nika and sun symbolism are examples of retroactive foreshadowing, not retcons. Retcons are just when an author edits information about something in their series to fix a mistake. in long running series, or series where not every single detail is set in stone; authors often use broad symbols and themes, that can be tied together later when the author is ready. that is called retroactive foreshadowing, and is a process of addition while retconning is a process of subtraction. and its weirder that you actually talk about this later in the video after i wrote this. but then idk why you are commited to the term retcon despite the negative connotation. You need to stop seeing things you dont understand as auto bs. Theres a lot of stock in the ideas of chinese alchemy playing symbolic role in the story. Check out some of gabiru d rats videos for more on that. Same with most historical allegory. Just because the fantasy story isn't 1:1 with the real world examples like kaido being big pharma, doesnt discredit any of the interpretation from those videos. the videos are more to bring light to negative stories from our real history, though the lens of op, and is objectively a good thing to do.
With Noonon we just either dislike how he frames certain videos or wish he’d go a bit farther with his topics. We talked about him because he like him. There’s different definitions of retcon and many don’t fit the framework you just painted. I’d also say Nika is both. Luffy no longer having the gum gum fruit is a retcon, but also yes there was a lot of retroactive foreshadowing. I honestly don’t care that a lot of people see retcons as inherently bad, I think they’re wrong so I’ll keep using it. From everything I’ve seen in the story alchemy isn’t something readers are pushed to think of when reading. I’ll gladly check out that channel although a specific video would be nice. You can use one piece to teach people about real life stories or ideas I think that can be cool. However I dislike when instead of one piece just being a springboard, videos go out of their way to treat this as the clear inspiration or allegory. I think most one piece messages are broad, be it so you can apply it to several issues or because ideas like starvation, war, prejudice, ect happen a lot. I dislike these interpretations that treat themselves very matter of fact while being hyper specific because I think it encourages more narrow readings of the series. Which leads to worse discourse.
