And that's just one of many of Sonic Team's recolors. In Sonic Colors's multiplayer mode, you friend can go through levels but you can also change the color of these "Sonic Dolls". But at least that yellow Shadow has some interesting color on it. The Sonic Dolls in Colors are just solid colors really. Nothing much to write home about.
customracer209 Oh yeah I forgot about those. One of them is just blue. It's not even a recolour, it's just sonic again....there's also the racing sonics from Lost World who are a similar story.
The only difference, minute as it were, is that those Sonic Dolls have blue eyes instead of green ones. And they have that little thing on their heads, but it doesn't excuse how little effort they're putting into Multiplayer Mode. It ain't a joke when people say, "Make Sonic's friends playable!"
Yellow Shadow is from the cartoon thingy that Scourge was from. It was like a Shadow Android. I am not sure about this, a friend told me this but uh...I think that's right?
Remember all those flash RPG games like Final Fantasy Sonic X, Wave Warrior Sonic Exe, and Mega Man X Virus Mission? Those episodically-released games with basically one turn-based battle per episode, massive sprite-animation cutscenes, and the sound effects from Dragonball Z? Yeah, those were the golden days when people actually put effort into their Sonic fanworks.
When I was in high school I spent months creating a detailed Sonic RPG in RPG Maker. The premise was that Eggman infused each Chaos Emerald with an elemental power and they promptly scattered across the world as the Chaos Emeralds do, and Sonic had to go collect them all, unlocking a new elemental form with each emerald. The water one made him look like Chaos, the light one gave him wings, so on and so forth, and I did all the sprite work myself. I even recreated Station Square in the game, complete with coding that allowed you to pick up the burger guy and move him around, I put a ton of blood sweat and tears into the thing. I gave a copy of my work to my brother-in-law to play, but he lost the disc years ago, so I will never see that hard work ever again. Years later in college I decided to try and recreate Night of the Werehog in RPG Maker just for fun, but I lost that as well when the motherboard of the laptop I was working on literally fried on me. I sure do have a bad track record with my RPG Maker games.
I remember when I had ocs that looked exactly like that....It’s embarrassing when I look back on it, but it’s just how kids explore their creativity, y’know? So I try not to be mean to them, just give them tips. I was lucky enough to have someone encourage me at that age, despite my awful character design, since mockery at that age can really effect someone. Their fangame looked relatively high quality for their age! I wonder what their characters look like now? When I look at old, amateur art, I always get a bit whimsical, haha! It’s a small glimpse into someone else’s life..... What’s their life like now? I wish them luck!
Yeah, they can be pretty interesting if done well. I'm not gonna say OCs have to be terrible, hell I may make my own one day. I honestly appreciate them more than these copy and paste RPGs. Being real, though Meteor the Hedgehog X made me laugh for some reason I don't think they intended. It's kinda like when Markipleir played Courage; you can tell they are aspiring game makers and have the potential to improve, but their first attempt is a bit comically bad.
The only reason Sega never made a sequel to Sonic Chronicles was because Bioware was bought by EA. That, and Ken Penders sued them because he claimed Shade and The Marauders ripped off Julie-Su and the Dark Legion (a lawsuit which would lead to Ken copyrighting his characters, thus leading Archie to a failed lawsuit that would make Sega force them to reboot the comic on their terms).
I was expecting you to go over the Sonic RPG flash games on Newgrounds, but these work, too. As a longtime user of RPG Maker, it's a shame that even the default tile sets were butchered so much by these people.

There are 3 series of good RPG based Sonic fan games: Final Fantasy Sonic X, Wave Warrior Sonic and Sonic RPG, all of them being kinda-somewhat crossovers.
Why does every Sonic fandom material has to involve: 1. Terribly drawn OCs 2. The already-lame-to-begin-with Sonic EXE. 3. Art theft 4. Weirdly-written fanfic 5. People in the comment section demanding the content creator to not criticize the people who made the game because "they're just doing it for fun".
My take on what a more descriptive version of the Sonic.exe nightmare tournament's "story": Many years ago, on an island known as Angel Island, there existed a gem known as the Master Emerald. It had been protectes by the Echidna tribe for centuries, as their pride and joy. One fateful night, Angel Island was invaded by a demonic deity. Taking the form of a blue hedgehog, this deity's name was Sonic.exe. Wanting to become stronger, he went after the Master Emerald's source of limitless energy. So, he went on a rampage in Angel Island. The last of the Echidna tribe, not wanting Sonic.exe to gain the power, started an ancient ritual, to seal the Master Emerald away, in a shrine deep underground. They succeeded, and soon after, Sonic.exe caught them, and slaughtered them. Moving forward to present day. . . The Master Emerald had faded into nothing more than a myth, a legend. Nobody actually thought it existed, including a small group of miners. On a mining expidetion, they found the gem. They didn't think of it as the Master Emerald, but they still thought it must be special. They grabbed it, and brought it back to their home town. The town had a local fighting tournament ready, but had no reward money for the winner. They decided to use the Master Emerald, now dubbed the "Power Gem" as the reward. Sonic.exe and many other demons saw this as an oppurtunity for ultimate power, and joined so that they may gain access to the mysterious rock. And so, what is now known as the Nightmare Tournament will begin! I am terrible at fanfics.
There are only a couple minor problems I have; 1, Computers didn't exist back then, so I don't think he could be called Sonic.exe. 2, Sonic didn't exist back then so I don't think he could take the form of Sonic. Maybe he could be a demon that would eventually become Sonic.exe.
I don't like "double posting" if you can call 2 comments in a row "that", but since your version of the backstory involves the echidna tribe and all that happening in the past, this could also give for more interesting possibilities if events happen before sonic.exe, and if knuckles is still alive somehow it could involve knuckles stealing the emerald while sonic.exe and tails doll are fighting, resulting in them joining to catch him in a part 2, which would be sonic.exe (the original) but as an rpg, where tails doll serves as a quest giver that searches for tails dr. eggman and knuckles while also being a shopkeeper, and this time with knuckles as (fake) final boss, and tails doll as true final boss (you must gather the 7 emeralds and unlock the hyper form by defeating 7 echidna manifestations before the actual fight), i could make that since i have the program but i'm not perseverant enough to actually pull through
About 7:03... The Metal Sonic look-alike is actually Mecha Sonic from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and the "yellow shadow" are Androids modeled after Shadow which I think appeared in Shadow The Hedgehog. The Silvery Robot Knuckles is Mecha Knuckles from Sonic Advance. Got nothing on the other one though.

Thought I'd let it be known, I actually have been planning to upload some longer content to my other channel where I play some shitty games, both long ones and collections of short ones. But because of my move and getting sick, it has set me back a little. (As well as the next video for this channel...) But rest assured, in the near future, I will be releasing a LOT of stuff for both channels.
8:43 The creator probably didn't think this out, but I see the logic behind it. If a group of regular people found a gem of ultimate power, they might think that they would be unable to use it to its full potential. In that case, the best way to find the most worthy person to use the power would be to hold a tournament to see who is the strongest/most skilled, then give the power to them. I am reading way too far into this.
As cringy as the "Meteor the Hedgehog" thing is, I think in the end it must've been really cool for the creator of the fan fic. Imagine your own story coming to life on a screen, and with the ability for you to play with it. So I couldn't help but feel kinda happy for it.
The opening boss fight of Sonic Adventure 2: battle RPG ACTUALLY has Mecha Sonic, Metal Sonic, Mecha Knuckles, some sort of other robotic knuckles, and the yellow Shadow might be a character from Sonic Rivals, but I can't be sure. The Motobugs are just random.
@@Monado-th8jl One of the knuxbots was from Sonic R and the other was from Sonic Advance 3, I don't remember the names. You did get the sonics right, but nearly anyone could get the sonics right. So uh, I guess so yeah.
Having recently played that, no, it was not good, it stressed me the hell out with nightmarish difficulty. Conceptually, sure, but. It's below Forces on my tier list-though, I actually like Forces.

He didn't even mention that it was made by BioWare, which (I think) is pretty interesting to note seeing how this is a Sonic/DS game that is (what he considers to be) of poor quality. Also, the game was somewhat well received, certainly not an abysmal failure. It's odd, he seems so level headed, he doesn't seem like the type to slam a game and not even give a reason for it. EDIT: Just want to say that I'm by no means trying to insult Pikasprey, aside from this one gripe I generally think he's a cool guy.
I played Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood a long time ago... and I remember liking it quite a bit. So why is it hated so much? Was something bad about it that I didn't catch on to?
To be fair, the Google images they used as sprites probably suck because they found them a decade ago. Like, hi-fi screencaps from Sonic X might have been literally nowhere on the internet when that game was made.

From what I'm seeing, the second game was made in VX or VX Ace, which have scripting, but it's very complicated. Explains the bare bones combat, but everything else, egh.
Great video! One thing I just want to mention about that first Sonic RPG- did you remember to install the fonts? Usually with any old game made in RPG Maker 2000 or 2003 there are specific fonts in a folder that you need to install. Otherwise they end up scrunched together like how you experienced. I mean, it doesn't stop the game from being bad, but that was a legit complaint you had so I figured I'd provide a solution.
That font is actually the base font for RPG Maker VX Ace. Most people who actually know how to make games on it will download new fonts and integrate them into the engine, which isn't actually that hard if you don't mind sitting through a couple of tutorials.

um... *looks at sonic adventure2 RPG battle* i know it dosen't make sense, but... i got past the fight because... special atacks ARE a thing..... but the game is pretty bad too. after that, sonic gets alone and he is back to normal then 3 black eggman robots kill him then he is at city escape then he sees shadow and then they fight together then you buy equipment and fight metal sonic then suddendly you are playing as tails and now you go trough the same level as sonic and Shadow but since tails is weak all you can do it run away so after 20 minutes running away tails find Amy and then they fight together, a glitched shop is there wich you can't use so tails is LITERALY useless, and then because of that i can't get past metal knucles fight and i acidentaly deleted the knucles and rouge save file so i couldn't progress trough the game then i grabed one of the last save files then i fight Biohazard with sonic shadow tails knucles Amy and rouge then after that sonic and Shadow turn super then you are fighting against final hazard, wich i can't beat that fangame is WAAAAYY worse than what you saw you are lucky that you forgot that special atacks exists

These look like games made before the 2010s. Back then, transparent images weren't as common online. And I bet that they just used MS Paint to edit the pictures.

Man, this reminds me of the history of my first ever Sonic OC. Her name was Neon the Hedgehog, and I think you may know what her design was just from the cringy, overused name alone: Black hedgehog, lime green colors. I made her using Crossover Sonic RPG which is from Roblox. Her backstory had.. well, many changes but most of all was cringe. Then, I moved to Sonic Pulse (made by the same creator of CSRPG) and remade her there, along with several other OC's. Her story got updated and it's less cringy now, though still rough around the edges, but honestly I want to keep the rough edges because I believe it just goes to show how much she's changed over the years. And then finally, I completely redesigned her, and now she is Mosiae the Hedgehog. A mossy lady with lime green daggers, which sure might also be cringe but I think it's a good nod to the old design a little atleast. Moral of the story? Overtime, old and rusty things can be remade into something less rusty and dated. I hope the people who made these old RPGS had fun making them and learned more about RPG Maker from them, and who knows, maybe are even learning coding.

Pfft, watched a bit further and 9:40 made me laugh a bit. Very evident there was no testing whatsoever. The developer set the screen to Fade-out but never set it to fade back in, so the battler (Tails Doll in this case) is invisible. Amazing.
