Brother you seem like a very honest mechanic it's too bad we cant have more people like you out here in NYC. you show up at a transmission shop here in NY they always say Oh you need a new transmission they don't even bother opening the pan an checking it .
Admittedly at least he told US that he never opened the pan to look and just is gonna write up a transmission because the shop makes him, but I dont think that makes him particularly honest... think he told the customer that? They'd lose their damn mind if they knew. He did what you described them doing in NY. This is why mechanic shops are going under left and right, because NOONE trusts them...and rightly so with this behavior. People expect a mechanic to actually fix whats broken, only whats broken. If the transmission comes out and its perfectly good I feel like you should be able to sue for damages, or at least the shop should pay the tab because the customer would not have replaced the tranny if they weren't told incorrectly that it was bad. In medicine thats called MALPRACTICE. Its a thing that you're required to have insurance for, otherwise they sue you and you can lose your license, and frankly cars go fast enough that they are life and death just as much as doctors work is. Its time mechanics were held to the same standards for malpractice and fraud liability that everyone else is.
I like your explanations. That is how we learn. We need to know what is going on to understand why there is a problem and how to fix it. You the man, J.T.!
I must say I watch a lot of Scotty Kilmer and other car guys and I enjoy them very much but this was a little different this was basically not like a prepared show this was just you doing your normal routine and working the problem and I’m sure you think out loud sometimes even if there’s no video camera and I love that shit, keep it going, I like it broski!
I just changed my transmission plug out today, it was leaking inside the connector and giving me a couple codes. Then I just had a rear tone wheel go bad i replaced today, had all 3 lights on and it wasnt acting right at all like you said. Half your videos lately is the same stuff I've had to do lol. That's why I like watching your videos to get a idea how to approach these problems. I got on a couple forums and found thos info about the abs and transmission being connected by the wheel sensors. Love watching your videos keep them coming
Do you know if the 4L60E GM transmission gets its intel from the wheel speed sensors as well? I swear I just changed out my wheel bearing, it came with a new wheel speed sensor, and it magically fixed my harsh 1-2 shift. It might be all in my head.
That’s not how you check level. Parking brake, shift through all gears several times, fluids will get pulled up into upper sections of the transmission thereby lowering fluid level, then and only then fluid can be scanned with temperature scanner and compared to appropriate chart to determine level.
This youtube buddy. Whip out your camera and show the people what you talking about. What you saw in this video was how I check the trans fluid quickly.
Dude I’ve been trying all day to find this information. I’ve been shitting my pants cause it was shifting weird I thought the torque converter was going bad or the tranny itself. I’ve had abs, esp and tc lights go on and off for the past week. Went to Autozone they said it was the rear right sensor. I’m praying that’s the whole problem
Aw yah. I got somethin outta this. Could just be the speed sensor and a small leak from the connector, hundred bucks and like 45 mins of work but instead of being fair to the customer the shop makes you write up "new transmission" and the associated 2000 in labor and 3000-8000 in parts depending on if they go new or rebuilt. Back in the day this kind of crap would get you blacklisted from mechanic work, its scamming people and being a part-swapper shop, not a mechanic shop. Im glad youre honest about it, but i wouldnt be party to ANY business that did business that way. This is why i do my own mechanic work and always will. Rebuilding a nag1 trans right now in fact. Never trust a mechanic shop guys...thats the lesson here.
Thanks for the knowledge. Have ya done any work or researched the pentastar and hemi etorque since sum from the factory have lithium battery packs that are discharged. My guage gives no 48vdc but 12vdc charge
I'm interested in purchasing an 05 Magnum R/T. Motor recently rebuilt and runs great. Body interior excellent but does have a transmission issue. While driving it revs high just between 2nd and 3rd gear just momentarily. Shifts smoothly through the rest of the gears. Seller says a mechanic advised him it was the O rings on the wiring harness that plugs into the tyranny. In your opinion does that sound like a reasonable thing?? Really like the car but that issue worries me. Any advice would be appreciated
Hello my friend, this sounds like a good buy. See if owner had car scanned, and was there any transmission related trouble codes. Also are you subscribed to the channel?
@@OnlineMechanicTips Yes sir just discovered your channel this morning and was very impressed with your knowledge and how you present it. Am subscribed and will recommend it. Thanks for replying!!
U say with Nag1 it’s a must to run the same size tires? What about the SRT8 Jeep with the Nag1? It has different size wheels and tires from the factory. 20x9 front / 20x10 rear wheels and 255/45/20 front / 285/40/20 rear tires.
I have a 2011 charger that may have this problem when i got my front end done they couldnt find what was causing the abs light so now i have a slip when the fluid warms up
Hey man, I’ve got a 2010 dodge challenger se 3.5 with the NAG 1. A lot of times it shifts very rough or acts like it’s gonna shift and doesn’t until a few seconds later. I can see the rpm’s bouncing and down offer at cruise and sometimes when accelerating about 100 rpm’s or so. It will also feel rough while down shifting. I’ve noticed a loss of power like it’s hard to get it to go over 2000 rpm’s somehow. I have no engine codes just a traction control light for a steering angle sensor. Do you know what could be causing this thanks.
Great job !! Can you please tell me how to or. What to look for i have a Dodge 545 RFE transmission that is not shifting in to gear !!! 7 ob2 codes it's all electrical codes
Hey bro I have a question, I am having a humming almost a low grinding noise at low acceleration and deceleration, or when reengaging at low rpms. If I keep it around 1- 1.5k rpms the sound will happen. Does it sound like a transmission issue? Thanks in advance!
What's up bro..what city are you in?? Look I have a classic car I'm trying to restore it only has 160,000 Mi is a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron when I bought it is running fairly good but out there only putting about 70 miles on it the transmission seem to go out. So I replace the modular, speed sensor and shift senor.. crank the car up everything seemed fine but as I was driving the car I noticed that it seemed that the speed speedometer made it seem like I was going faster than I was I have to continue to drive and put in about 200 MI on the new parts I noticed hesitation after a while when taking off and it continued to get worse to the point the car would not shift out of first gear it would shift up after30 mph would never go into second gear which raised the RPMs and put a string on the motor... after doing some more reading and research on that particular brand of car it was pointed out that the new module needed to be reprogrammed with the part number of the module which I did not do. I had intended to buy a scanner to read the codes I do not have any lights on my instrument panel indicating transmission problem and I could not locate a odb2 for a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron that would fit my odb2 1994 plug... the car has been sitting up for about 8 months.now so my next plan is to change the speed sensor and shift sensor to see if that will make a difference and if that doesn't work I will have to take it to AAA Transmissions do you have any ideas I'm in the Carolina's and this is why I was asking what city do you live in because perhaps I could bring it to you if I don't fix it by replacing the census
Nag1 units do have internal imput and output speed sensors and it should generate road speed with the final drive ratio and tire size. I know I had no problems with the speedometer on 2007 5.7 charger Nag1 with the ABS completely disabled.
True, it doesn't need the ABS or traction control turned on, that module can be uncovered entirely and itll still work fine, it just needs the wheelspeed sensors that it uses for calculating your speed. Ive got a switch on mine set up to kill the traction control module's power for if I want to have a little tirespinny fun. Pretty common mod.
So the front right wheel bearing hub isn't making the proper contact with the wheel sensor. So in other words the sensor not giving the correct signal can cause the TCM to trip a fault and cause error with the transmission operation........
@@OnlineMechanicTips Gee, I have a 2010 Patriot. The 4WD! warning light comes on every time the engine is stared & I drive 1 mile. I scanned the vehicle but I had no fault codes. but before I cleared the ECM, it did show an error with a front wheel speed sensor. Perhaps that's what causes that 4WD! light to come on. Interesting. I did have a bunch of codes but on the Jeep lines, the grounding pigtails are so cheap, they get corroded really easy. I fixed two pigtails & about 4 warning lights stay off now. Just that 4WD! light comes on.Thanks for posting that. I'll check it out & post what happened in the comments....
@@yourtruememelord.8425 check input and output transmission speed sensors, abs speed sensors by each wheel, if those are changed and still happening change the whole valve body including the shift solenoid.
Excuse me sir, I had a question for you, hopefully you can help me, I got a 2007 Chrysler 300c 5.7 engine and I got the ESB and BAS light on but everytime I shut the car off and turn back on the lights go away for some time but when lights come back on my third brake light doesn't work, hopefully you understand me and you can guide to find the problem, thank you sir and have a good day
@@OnlineMechanicTips Yes, this is the codes U1408 Dynamic Range Error U1408 Implausible Brake signal Received C107C Brake pedal switch 1/2 Stuck I replaced the Brake switch and still doing the same thing, Thank you sir
This is a interfaced set up from rhe DLC connector. You cant buy or download this, its not software. Thanks for watching, are you subscribed to the channel?
@@josepantoja9421 Thanks bud, yea to read ABS codes you gonna need a good scan tool, not just a code reader. The good news is it may be something easy like a speed sensor
Yes, the suggestion is to get trans properly diagnosed my friend.A P0733 code is likely a leak in that clutch pack. That did not mean your TCM was bad. Did the trans have any leaks? Also are you subscribed to the channel?
1st trans I went through it myself installed shift kit, new balance body conductor plate and solenoids still have the P0733, decided to swap trans instead of rebuilding. Only code is the P0733 73k miles no leaks.
@@OnlineMechanicTips I know the TCM wasn’t bad but if the code was stored and need to be reprogrammed of flashed it would bypass that procedure. Which is the specific question I asked in the other video but you danced around it if your gate keeping info then cool just say that. My channel doesn’t hate keep info if I know or have actual info that could help I help if I don’t I say I don’t know no ego!!!
I have an 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7 V6 9200 miles getting codes u0404 and P0700 loud whining sound coming from the transmission area in all gears. I took it to a transmission shop and was told to drive it until transmission goes completely 🤦🏼♀️
Lmao! Umm who told you that? You must didn’t go to a real professional transmission shop… because no real mechanic is going to tell anyone to just drive the car until the transmission goes out. That’s stupid
On my 2010 SRT8 challenger I believe it came with a staggered set up and if I’m wrong I did put more extreme staggered set up on it after I bought it. I haven’t noticed any problems so far. 255/295. Is there something different about the nag1 transmission in my car?
For people wondering, as long as you change the tune you're fine. Theres tire-size settings, and the drive ratio, and about 8000 transmission settings that it uses to calculate everything. He exaggerates a little about how sensitive it is, but it IS touchy without adjustments if you screw too much with it. I know the RT is equal sized on all tires, but if the srt has a tcm already set up for a staggered radius setup then its probably fine going a little further, but if youre just talking about tire width... that won't matter, its tracking rotational speed which only cares about the radius of the circle.
You can’t bypass it. If your car won’t shift at all, you need to get it fixed. Also you shouldn’t be driving a car with a donut on it for weeks. donuts are temporary and it will cause your car to drive funny. get a used tire! It’s only like $35-$45 bucks which is cheap
My 300 has abs bas esp traction control light and doesn’t shift can’t rev past 3k rpm I’ve change valve body abs electric part rear speed sensors and don’t know what it can be need help.
@@ogmanman759 yea it was some chewed up cables also changed the crankshaft position sensor because it was a different year model engine than my original 2007 and I put an 05 5.7 so the crankshaft position sensor is different from 03-05 it’s bigger and from 2006 and up it’s a little bit smaller
@@JR3600FRK see I just did the 3.06 diff swap on my 05 300c I had sum dry dirt on both my rear wheel speed sensors because of where my car was and all of the rain I having the same lights and code p0731 so could that be why
I know this question doesn’t go with video but I’m replacing lifters in a 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited and bought a lifter and it’s stiff ,should I be able to compress a new mop at lifter or not like with my fingers????
But yeah I received a new lifter today and was curious and tryed to decompress it with my fingers and that was a big negative but yeah only replacing lifter of where rockers where bad I only had 3 rockers in bank 1 side beginning to fail no cam damage
That's why I try to fix everything on my car myself, I have trust issues and people at a shop ain't going to respect and treat my car like me the owner.
I'm pretty sure my 09 challenger srt8 has the Nag1 and it comes from the factory with 245's up front and 255's out back. Then I hear you say do NOT put different size tires 😆 oh chrysler.
@@OnlineMechanicTips oh it did its right in the owners manual. 245/45/20 fronts 255/45/20 rears. Now I'm not sure if it was a package but ever forum I have read that's what the came with.
