A man that can admit making mistakes, deserves a lot of respect! No one is perfect. But keep it up man! I know for a fact one day you’ll look back at these times and realize you’ve come a long way!
I spent 14 YEARS out of the industry, retaught myself in eight days to pass my weld tests only to go to work in a shutdown and fail 2 X-rays. Some guys were hard on me but I shook it off. It was humbling to know how good you were and to know your hands aren’t doing what your brain tells them to. Keep on keepin on young buck, your honesty is refreshing.
My welding instructor did a test for us once last year and he failed it as well. Like he told us, it is what it is. You can be the best welder in the world and you can still fail lol.
I have my own welding shop now and I’ll admit and pretty sure I’m speaking for plenty of other welders too when I say this, I have failed my fair share of weld test. Sometimes even to this day you have just a bad day and shit happens lol just gotta learn from it and roll on!
Thank you for being transparent so many people I hear on the job site say I never busted a test and every GREAT welder I know busted a test before …. I will say one thing definitely clean your coupon to the MAX every time and teach your students that helps with smoking mirrors and can always clean it up to cover any arc marks or mistakes better if you never cleaned it to start just my 2 cents and who wants to weld over all that crap anyway I want a fresh clean surface every time for the test ! Can’t wait for the next video!!
I've been cursed out and run off jobs, and I'm not even charging clients yet. It's all volunteer work. My friend asked for help, but I had my SA-200 in 4th gear and I accidentally plugged in electrode negative. When I tried to strike off, it stuck, and the 3/32 welding rod turned the color of a golden noodle, then it dripped onto the guy's wooden gate and set the thing smoking. He was pissed.
Thank you for sharing real world welding / fitting / fab....doing a great job pays dividends of being the " go to " weldor for future work... and believe me a water plant needs welding. Stay safe all.
I feel you my QA rejected my work at my job. My whole day went down the drain- killed my confidence for a newbie. What’s worst I can’t weld anymore they assigned me as a helper just grinding other people welds.
Man that's crazy. Get you a good multi process machine and practice when you feel you're ready let them know you want to test. Trust me you can earn their respect. I went through a similar situation 27 years ago just starting out.
I failed an overhead test last week. I welded for 13 years but quit and tried something else for 2 years. I decided welding is where I wanted to be so I went back to it. I hadn't struck a single arc in those 2 years so to say I was rusty is an understatement, so yeah I failed my first test.
It happens to everyone. People act like if you fail a test your a unprofessional welder but happens to the best of us. A unfamiliar weld and the pressure of a test can end up with a bad day
Never get confident when taking a test.. I know that for sore..hell yea lot of welders with experience will fall to once in a while. Good luck bro.keep up the good work
I feel this my boyfriend drove 5 hours to do a test and failed it was for a pretty good Job 32hr compare for what he was getting 15hr I could see how sad he felt but he said he learn from his mistakes 😔
There’s always things that can mess up. Sometimes just need a breather to gather yourself. Which in your case was waiting for the next day. Another one bites the dust!!
Yeah I was at mainliners in deer park , spent 1500 for a tig course and never got the hands on instruction, had me doing 6010/ 7018 , when I paid for tig
Am not a welder, but as a GC for over 20 years I’ve built success on learning from mistakes or failures . Lessons learned is what makes you valuable. But, repeating mistakes is a definition of insanity.
Damn bro I’m at WWA rn getting carbon and stainless certs next but love the vids been watching for a couple years wish I would have known ab the school cause you hit that shit on the head not enough instructors..
8:00, big ole Digester....I got to repair a 4x8 HSS air injection tube on one of those, with 200,000 gallons of poo in it 10 inches below......I was laying on 3 2x10's over the poo by about 6 inches....had to weld by sound as even a mirror could not see what I needed.....but it got done......
You've said your torch blew out right after you filled your bottles, so my question to you is why you don't have a portable plasma cutter just in case the torch set up doesn't work? time saver!!
I know a guy when all this testing started took all the test for everybody applying. Not really kosher, but when results came back everybody passed, but him. He will never do that again.
God was just testing your faith and strength brother. Press on and move along…..this too shall pass!!! Remember when you have bad days…..someone else has it worse.
Welding is an art, a talent. Welders, whether they know it or not-- we are artists. We are also human and fallible. You are a biological creature and some days you're humming along and others you're off. It is what it is.
Hey bro iam your student don’t worry, alway’s nobody can perfect work some time (tired’hurry, sad, like…. So you try to alway’s happy bro god alway’s help us bro iam al’so welder good luck bro👍❤🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
A welder who says he never dipped a test or ever had a repair has not taken many tests or been on many high quality X Ray or UT jobs. Good to see a man who not only can admit his mistakes and can clearly learn from them also helps other guys to not make the same mistakes. Good on you bro and remember keep a tight arc and the amps high
He’s wrong on the remote it’s not double whatever the number is, smh some remotes have 1-10 1=10 10=100, some remotes have 0-100, it’s all how the numbers are laid out.
Now & then The Universe gives you Hints that you're at the wrong stuff for the wrong money for the wrong people - usually we ignore the Universe & run around harder to try fix shit - which seldom works. Best to laugh, slow down & go find better cheese - also speak slower ffs - effort of trying to keep up. Slow down, dude.Calm, Deborah. :-)

I feel you my QA rejected my work at my job. My whole day went down the drain- killed my confidence for a newbie. What’s worst I can’t weld anymore they assigned me as a helper just grinding other people welds.
