I love it when Badgers go on the defensive like that - the sudden arching of the back and everything - wouldn't want to tangle with one though! Great capture once again.
Thanks Mick. Yes they can change to an aggressive stance in a split second, but this is the first time I've seen it first hand. I can't help wondering how much closer the deer would have got if the Badger had of remained passive. I think it probably would've just had a friendly sniff then move on. I'd not want to get on the wrong side of a badger either, I've stumbled across a couple and they just ran off, but I suppose if they had no escape route then it would be a different story.
You know what, I think your films are worthy of being on TV wild life documentaries. Was that maize stuble in the field? Ive come across badgers early hours of the morning, heads down foraging they don't seem to see or hear until you make an obvious sound. Even with my dogs I've watched from a distance, dogs won't chase them or deer, they know not to. A like from me 😊👍
Thanks Steve, nice of you to say so. My camera needs to be upgraded as the present one is about 9 yeras old and its had quite a few knocks, the image quality isn't up to BBC standards. Imagine doing this as a profession, I'd love it! I've noticed that about badgers too. When I first spotted this one I was very careful, thinking it would see or hear me but it was so relaxed and engrossed by its single aim of finding something to eat that I was able to wander further along the border fence and get lots of video. I think rapeseed or corn had been grown in that field. The badger was obviously looking for insects, worms and slugs, they seem to eat anything they come across, including dead birds. Thanks for the comments and likes, much appreciated.
Fantastic - just happened to be in the area Mr Badger. Threat levels were heightened though. It's unusual badgers are so blind. I've come within a meter or so tucked away in a bush then when level that's it there off. Great footage Roo. Peace. Mark
It was a nice surprise seeing the badger early in the day and out in the open. I've had them almost bump into me in the woods but one sound from my camera or footsteps and they're off.
