This explanation is so insanely detailed yet accurate and needed! I have been playing for over 12 years, I am a very powerfull player but have always struggled with the backhand because I never received an explanation/training as detailed as this. I am going to show my trainer and ask him to guide me like this! Very much appreciated and I am going to binge-watch the rest of your videos!

@michelb8976

Equation doesn't necessarily equate to complicated. A contrario, equations are medium potissimum to reduce complicated to complex.
@jeffbrower8773
@jeffbrower8773 4 года назад
@Verdant, the equation explains why most people cant hit clear far enough. With backhand you can generate max racquet speed head over only 2-3 inches. The equation shows distance in the numerator so if it's very small you have to achieve max racquet head speed precisely during that small distance. If your technique is off, then missing by even 1" makes a difference. Forehand does not have this problem -- max racquet head speed can be maintained for 12" or more, like throwing something. I found this out only after many years of working on my backhand. But I didn't think about energy "leaking out" of an unlocked wrist joint, so that's new and I'm anxious to work on this now. Thanks Prit !

Hi Dear, your well explained video is very good for the back hand shots. I think it is more perfectly for the shuttle position is high and have enough time but during a tight match with a better opponent, if we have to reach for the backhand shot after taking a drop shot from front right hand corner, when we reach to taking the same the shuttle may be lower in the back hand side, hence how can we take that ? How can we produce more power for the back hand short ? Can you help me to suggest ?

You sir, are one brilliant teacher, thank you. But I think there is one part that you left out, and that is where in the air should you make contact with the shuttle in relation to your body; should it be just behind, level or in front of your head/shoulder, and how high from the ground is the best place to make contact?
@jjy941
@jjy941 5 лет назад
As a general rule of thumb, the best place to hit the shuttle will always be to your front, and at the highest possible point of impact. Therefore, if you can manage a shot that is high and at your front, then take that shot. However, he is also teaching us how to hit shots that are at the back and low, because in badminton, especially when you are under heavy pressure, you will have to make shots like these. TL;DR: take the easy shots (front, high), but practice for the hard shots (behind, low).

One question coach. You use the side of your thumb to perform this shot. I always thought it was the flat of the thumb on the bevel of the racket for backhand clears. Why is it important to use the side of the thumb? Great video though, very well explained and great close up camera from different angles to show each shot!
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 5 лет назад
Thanks for your question Alan. The position of the thumb changes depending on how far behind you’re having to contact the shuttle. What matters is that the racket face is square (or flush) at contact of the intention is to hit straight and/or the intention is to produce maximum power. Any slight deviation in the angle of the head will cause slice (therefore a change in direction) and loss of power (the shuttle will deflect along several strings rather than impact on a single point in the strings). So thumb position changes in order to maintain the angle of the head. If the shot you’re playing is right next to you, then you can use the flat side of your thumb because it’ll maintain the said angle in the racket head. But if the shuttle is WAY behind you then the side of the thumb will have to be in contact with the bevel as this is the only way to keep the racket square upon impact.

tds qatar yes keep practicing until the preload phase disappears or at least becomes more subtle. I have the raw footage for the BH X DROP. Will put together as a proper video soon. For now. Turn the racket inwards by shifting the way you hold the handle (turn onwards by 1/4”) so racket head faces the corner you’re trying to hit to. Then slice the shuttle from the outside. If you can at least see that the shuttle is going x-court (even if you’re not hitting it over the net) you’re on the right path.

Though this tutoral is very detailed and very helpful, but this 8 movement seems tough to follow. I have been practicing backhand for sometime but still could not develop this "8" movement. Even i notice in this video, around 13min onwards the backhands you played, i could not see any "8" movement in your arm. You played all your backhand without that..

Shorya Kumar hi. Thanks for your question. Are you referring to the trick shot LD plays from the back? A good backhand technique should work no matter how low the shuttle is. It only means you need to get very low to get out of an extremely difficult position. So this depends on strength and conditioning and hip and knee mobility and stability. I will be addressing strength and conditioning in videos to come. I’ve only just started making and publishing. If your shoulder is hurting then you need to use more wrist supination and a bit of wrist adduction. I cover these in my video. You also have to be extremely loose in your fingers so that when you grip the racket, you apply a change of force. Not just force. It means be loose before then tight at contact then loose again. When I say loose I mean lethargically loose. Looser than you’ve ever been. But do not lose the caulked wrist or the “hitchhiker’s wrist” that I refer to in my video.

@@PritPachu thank you for the tips!! I am practicing the figure 8 technique that you taught since the day i watched... Lets hope with time i master it!! But when shuttle is very low my elbow doesn't allow me to generate momentum!! Anyways i'll be practicing what you have taught!! Thank you for the lessons sir!! And please make a video on that trademark shot(lindan) yes, that one which he hits from the very back court!!

Massage the joints in a circular manner six times each even the bones not hurting as it will balance and form an equilibrium in your body. Use 🥥 pure coconut oil. Also get lots of sleep 💤 the night before the badminton games / practice and also the night after the badminton practice. Also build up your body strength with exercising your legs , arms core and back. Look up exercises on UTube or ask a coach who is proficient to help strengthens your body. Lots of jumping alone and then with a rope will strengthen your leg muscles and 🦵 leg bones. Of course diet with plenty of vitamin D will help. Ideally expose most of your body to natural 🌞 sunshine and consume tons of greens such as broccoli and sprouts. ALWAYS take greens with EACH MEAL such as these as well as salad leaves and cucumbers as these will contribute bioavailability of enzymes to help digest ORGANIC FOODS ( so eat organic food only please) and these will be readily absorbed for strengthening your bones 🦴. As bones take ages to strengthen don’t think this will occur in a day, it will take weeks and even months sometimes. There is plenty of calcium in foods and pink Himalayan salt , (see below please) we eat so don’t take extra calcium supplements. The greens will provide prosperous , magnesium and other essential vitamins for your bones. One last thing , obtain Kolongi seeds , around one ☝️ 5ml spoonful to a large glass of water and gently boil it for around three minutes and drink the whole mixture morning upon arising and night around half an hour before breakfast and about an hour before sleeping. Stop using table salt. USE HAMALAYAN SALT ONLY as it has around a hundred readily bioavailable minerals and vitamins to help your body grow and keep its strengthen not just the body and its immunity against infection but to strengthen your bones. Also in the morning with the kolongi seeds add the juice of half a 🍋 lemon and drink it twice / day. I hope this helps . Let me know in three months time how you are. I suggest you have your blood analysis done under your physician in case there is any reason for your bone 🦴 pains. Try to loose weight if you are overweight although your photo shows you are very health and not fat and please avoid smoking and alcohol and I preassume you don’t take mind bending drugs anyway Good luck son and God bless you. I wish you every success in your badminton 🏸 game . I have played badminton for around 44yrs and am really passionate playing badminton and want you to be pain free. I am a Pharmacist with deep nutritional knowledge in the UK but am not a doctor 🥼. All my unconditional love to your family and to you.

Is tension strength of a racquet also a factor for a faster and stronger backhand? or is it solely the technique? thanks :)
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 4 года назад
Xfinity Lelouch are you asking about string tension? Is so, yes. It’s part of the physical system. The better a player’s technique and feel for the weight of the racket, the more important it is to have the tension high. High tension = higher repulsion (Young’s Modulus or the Elastic Modulus) = more Power, assuming racket head speed is high. The key is to be able to feel the weight of the racket and swing the racket like you would a pair of nun-chucks. It’s a macing action. The wrist should act as a hinge and the hand and racket should act as a free weight. This is why top players can generate so much head speed. That’s why Momotas swing looks like he’s swinging a rope. Super loose in the limbs. So yes, string tension is a key factor in complimenting excellent technique.

The answer to the pinned post/question above is: In the video there is a part where I show how the grip changes based on where you’re catching it. Where you catch it all depends on how much trouble you’re in. Ideally, the best place to contact the shuttle on a backhand is right next to you. The further behind you contact it, the less effective the shot. How low or high in space you should contact it again depends on how much trouble you’re in. Ideally, if you’re not in a lot of trouble and have chosen to play a backhand more out of apathy than necessity, your contact point depends on what shot you want to play. If you’re in this place of luxury, the ideal spot will be not quite at the highest point where the arm is fully extended, but just below. At this point there would be a slight bend in your elbow and an angle in your wrist, both of which will allow you to generate enough power for a smash or clear. And this would allow you to have enough play in both joints to play a straight or cross drop. So try to get to the shuttle as fast as you can so you’re in this ideal backhand position. And if you’re not, adjust your grip and just get out of the situation with the most neutral shot possible.

Please watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XdVz5HSMxQw.html 0:12” Contact point is the message I’m trying to bring across. It is low because that’s the situation. If it was less pressure then contact would have been higher. And if it was even less pressure, the it would not have been a backhand at all. It would have been an Around the Head.
