Matt "THE CAT" Allen. Nice reflexes on saving your rig. Got back into fishing about a year ago and can't begin to tell you how much I have learned from you and Tim. Thanks for all the work you guys put in to help us become better anglers. Take care my friend.
Matt turned me onto BFS last January and that’s pretty much all I do on my channel. I’ve caught my PB of 8.8, an 8.3, a couple 7s and loads of 5-6 lb fish on 6 lb line and BFS since making the switch and the best part is the next cast I could catch a crappie, or a 8 inch bass. It’s so fun like he said. I’ve had several limits over 20 lbs recently on bfs, here’s a link to one of those if you wanna check it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nVnUl_JkOIU.html
I just wanted to say that because of this video, I bought a Cashion 7' L/F BFS rod and Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra BFS reel, and a Megabass Karashi. Yesterday I took them out on the water with my kayak and on my 2nd cast with it I caught my biggest bass of the day, and 7 other bass after. BFS is no joke and has really made me enjoy fishing again. Love all the BFS videos you guys do and all the gear you recommend is killer.
Thanks for paying some love to very area of Bass Fishing and fishing in general that was born here in Japan. So glad to BFS being recognized more overseas each day and also how it's killin' it in the Bassmaster series also!
I used your link to get my Curado/Cashion BFS rig. I tied on a 1/10 oz ned lock hook and test casted it without any bait. WOW!! Distance, accuracy, no backlash. Did I mention WOW!! What a great recommendation you gave me. Thanks very much.
This video has it all... nature sounds/scenery, a bass almost ripping a rod and reel off the deck of the boat, a miraculous save in response, a wondering cow... oh and some BFS fishing!
Great video! This is why I fish with lighter gear (spinning not bfs) as everything is so fun! Small craws on light shaky heads are one of my goto baits just because they work so well. The other thing I like about finesse baits is you can catch a variety of species: channel cats, crappie, stripe, white bass along with spotted and largemouths.
We need more of these.. This market is starting to emerge and it’s such a game changer in how we fish . Keep ‘em coming. Can’t wait for gear to come down in pricing
It’s all I do on my channel. I’ve caught a bunch of BIG pressured Texas bass in the last year switching to small baits and light line. Here’s a link to a recent trip if you wanna check it out 🤙🏽 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nVnUl_JkOIU.html
The gear don’t have to be expensive, there’s other brands that aren’t expensive who were onto the bfs game a long time before it got really popular. The Reel Test, he does reviews on reels, he’s reviewed a handful of brands that can be had for cheap that actually perform great
yup, we just need the prices to catch up with the popularity. I enjoy watching Matt but damn, I don't think using nothing but $700 setups is the best way to introduce people to a whole new subset of fishing.
@@jesusflores7323 my dobyns sierras are 189 and my Tsu legend rod was 89. And the zephyrs and Tsu dark wolf are both under 80 bucks for a great performing reel. I can’t ever justify spending 300 bucks on a rod or reel either man.
Sidebar comment: I came to this video to study your techniques. But hearing all the birds singing in background as you're quietly trolling along is yet another reminder of why I love fishing so much. #respect
*Video Idea* Would love to see you guys come down here to Santee Cooper next year during the spring and do a day on the water where there is nothing but BFS used!!
without a doubt, the best fishing style/gear you can find out there, it is so dynamic! especially here in Canada where the Largemouth is not as big in the US, the BFS seems to be the only "consistent way" of catching them. Awesome video mate.
I’m right there with you! I’ve had several 20+ lb limits and caught my two biggest bass of my life 8.8 and 8.3 on pressured Texas lakes since making the switch. Here’s a lake to a recent trip I did pretty good on if you wanna check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nVnUl_JkOIU.html
The Karashi is such a great bait. Anyone who mainly fishes for crappie, bluegill, or other panfish should get a couple of them. Trout and white bass also love it. One that sinks faster would probably make a good walleye bait.
Went out today with my new dobyns sierra ultra finesse and curado bfs reel. Got the Alphas air tw on the way and a kistler 3x ultra finesse rod on back order. Haven't had this much fun in years.
Man that looked like an awesome day on the water Matt. Thank you for bringing us along. I fish a small, heavily pressured lake. I can not buy a bite to save my life. WOULD LOVE to have a day like that. Next best thing, watch a TacticalBassin video 👍🏻 Thanks Matt&Tim
A few years ago I started fishing a local bait makers 3" craw on finesse spinning gear. I found some super small #2 hooks and used a 1/16 lead weight. It absolutely killed. Bass, crappie, panfish, and even a catfish. I am stoked to find that you guys are using something similar, because I have since moved states and haven't been able to find a small craw that worked that well ever since. I'm now so excited to try the ring craw!
I was out yesterday. The wind was howling. I was amazed at how well the curado bfs was able to cast against the wind. I was throwing a 1/4 oz top spin with a 2.8 Keitech and casting further into the wind than traditional rods with heavier baits. I just got into bfs this year and LOVE it!!!
This sort of supports a lesson I learned recently... Not all lakes have monsters. I downsized my baits and started catching fish. I was convinced I was going to hunt out a monster at this lake and lost a lot of fish and wasted a lot of time.
Hey Matt, it's Matthew Alan Lidrich in the house. That is crazy that your name is almost the same as mine. Just throwing the BFS gear myself yesterday afternoon and for 1 1/2 hrs I was ripp'n some lips on some smallies. The bite has been spotty the last 2 weeks and it was a blast pulling out a bunch of fish under 1 lb. with the light stuff. I'm not a pro like you but I do like to toss a lure sometimes. Thanks for sharing your video's with us!
As far as a rod sticking over the edge of boat, ive had fish jump out of the water to get to it, good save, the 1st time heard about bfs was on this channel it looks super fun & i throughly enjoyed it Matt, ive telling everyone about this channel because yall cover everything in bass fishing & you have catches to to back it up!👍🎣
Not quite the same majestic mornings you have down there in the mornings with the goose. Nothing beats an early morning fishing with the calling of loons up here in the north.
This is the type of fishing that gets young kids into the sport. Whenever I take my son out its downsized gear so he can catch plenty of fish. Great video!
Been fishing BFS my whole life without it being a “thing”. Micro bass lures were big in the 90s with smaller rods and reels; my Dad was a pioneer and never knew it! The new gear does work better, but the technique is the same. Loads of fish for a fun day out.
I'm Shock you are aiming for small fish on bfs when you could target nice size fish on bfs. And some of these fish was nice size. What's your favorite bfs reel if you don't mind me asking? Good to see you linking the gear as well!!
Yeah man,i hate seeing people relate small finesse baits with small fish. You can absolutely catch quality fish on neds and wacky rigs. In fact, i always tend to catch more and bigger fish when im finesse fishing, thats truly where my confidence actually is.
Happy you did this video, this week... I was out yesterday with a Shimano Enber 60 SP in gold with orange belly and caught some 2lbs smallies, a couple of Northern Pike, and it even provoked a 4+ foot musky to hookup twice. Luckily both times the musky got off without cutting my line. All on 8lbs PowerPro with a 6lbs fluorocarbon leader. What a blast!!! Hope you guys do more videos with BFS!
That Daiwa hidden concept line is the first thing I spoiled my BFS reel with. That line is amazing. Managed a big old pike on it for one of the first catches.
You guys ever do a video on the free rig? I always come to you first when I want to learn a new technique but I don't see one when I put in the search. The detailed list in the description is HUGE for learning what type of set up to throw any given technique.
love throwing 1/16 or less jigheads w/1.5-2” baits on Curado BFS & 7’ Dobyns 740c! fishing dinks, so much fun when big ones are testy or finicky. thanks for the video❤
The best 👌RU-vid Chanel. Matt & Tim are the guys whit the knowledge for fish 🐟 thankz for sharing all the tricks hope get my pb this year keep up the good work 👏
I know the feeling and it is a good feeling when I fish for bluegill I use a ultralight spidermite spinning comb with 6 pound braid and it will cast a mile with a roadrunner and when I catch a bass it's like catching a 5 pounder on ultralight.👍
I'm 59 and have been bfs for about 30 years i have a bps pro finnesse baitcaster on a 4ft 10 in eagle claw Featherlite light action rod (1/16 -3/8oz)perfect for tossing crankbaits ,jerkbaits, spinnerbaits and topwaters.i still use spinning rod for dropshoting and lures under 1/8oz.dont know why there is so many haters ?
Watching this with my son, he says, “dad, this man must be having a lot of fun, he chuckles each time he catches a fish!” “Yes son, he is having ALL the fun”
I could see how bfs gear could be advantageous for tournament fishing as well particularly for co-anglers fishing highly pressured tournament lakes and behind a boater at that
I have been using the Zman TRD CrawZ with a lot of success and I have a friend who lives at the coast smashing the redfish using the TRD CrawZ on the Zman weighted EWG hook.
Good stuff! After watching your BFS videos I’m going to try this as a co in some upcoming tournaments. A lot of the guys on the river up here are sticks and it may be different enough to get bites they don’t. Thx TB!
I grew up crawling through mountain streams trout fishing with ultralights. I've been an advocate of power fishing for decades though... I had zero clue it was still in there until bait finesse brought it out.
I was just in a Kayak bass tourney and was using my BFS and ended up snagging and landing a 45-50lb carp! Just let the drag work!! Little baits catch big fish!! Lol!!
I’m curious if you have any issues with the cashion micro guides? Are you using braid to leader on any of them or just straight flouro or straight braid? Thanks
cant go wrong with braid to leader!! straight fluoro is nice in the infamous 4# variety but you should pull/stretch it and use line treatment to reduce memory.
I'm telling you a phenix RECON ELITE in 682/712 is a great rod and at a great price - they have a great warranty - i use it for underpins okashira heads poppers shaky
Matt, caught my first BFS bass on the 7'2' med light curado rod w/ curado bfs reel. It seems to struggle loading up for casts with just a 1/16th weight and a ned bait (the rod is rated to 3/16ths) minimum. Could you explain the use case for the curado medium light vs cashion medium light? It's rated down to 1/8th.
likewise i bought the 7'2" Expride med light for BFS and it's a little too stiff for 1/16 but 1/8 worm weight with a size 1 owner j light and a depps death adder works beautifully
You mentioned how the karashi will just get eaten over and over until they get hooked. The only other bait I've ever had that experience with is the showerblows 105. I was hesitant to finally pull the trigger on one because of the price, but they can't stay away from it.
Awesome video.. Matt, as someone whos lucking for budget gear and looking to get into finesse fishing. Should I look for a spinning combo or go all out to BFS? Sorry if this was answered in a past video! Thanks for all yall do.
I caught a rash of negativity for “finesse” fishing a ned rig on a baitcaster. With all of the BFS options now available, why NOT try something that is just as good as spinning gear? You can go light on a baitcaster, but it might take some getting used to if you’re not already comfortable with using one.
Any time you're ahead of the curve you'll catch negativity. You can't imagine the hate we took decades ago while catching double digits with swimbaits. Stick to it, let that feedback motivate you, because you really are ahead of the curve. 👍🏼
@@VinceNiergarth that’s pretty much what I told them. If I can educate someone on a new technique and they can find the same benefit as I do out of it, what’s the harm? You have a great day as well - tight lines!
Hey Matt, I recently purchased a Dobyns SUF700C at the recommendation of one of your videos and am loving it, but I find I don't get the best hookset when fishing tiny texas rigs like you do in this video. Would a Dobyns Sierra ML 6'9" spinning compare to the Cashion Icon ML 6'10" for this purpose?
Great video Matt! I got two JDM Aldebaran 22 and paired them with the Dobyns Sierra SUF700 rod and have had a blast. I sppoled the Sufix nanobraid 10Lb on one and Varivas PE# 0.6 (10Lb) on the other. Wanted to know if the JDM fishing line was worth it but haven't decided yet. Love all your videos Matt, especially when you take the time to explain everything. I see Tim twitch a little when your long winded but know, the viewers love every detail!!!
Those are incredible setups. I use the D. Sierra SUF 701C (the 7' fast action) for micro jerkbaits and the Karashi (that Matt keeps giving away the juice on). Those Aldebarens are incredible as well, I started with the 51 (I fish lefty) and then had to buy more. Once you use an Aldebaren for Jerkbaits or small/mid crankbaits, you're ruined, and don't want to use anything else. I can't tell you how many times I've been able to make casts into the wind with a Vision 110 or Jr, when buddies were backlashing with much heavier, easier to cast baits.
Totally hit the like button before I watched this!!! Do you have confidence in any budget combos for BFS yet or is it just better to save up for a Curado?
