"more fun to build it than to buy it" Could not agree more :D
@memyselfandi6422
@memyselfandi6422 6 лет назад
Tricky's World I could not disagree more, due to the fact that, what if you came upon an issue and you couldn't resolve it, then you would have a non working product which you would possibly have spent a considerable amount of time and money on, which doesn't even work, where as, if you buy an already built and working product you get to have fun immediately.
@tristanmcleish3825
@tristanmcleish3825 5 лет назад
@@memyselfandi6422 i disagree with your argument because building it trouble shooting it and fixing it and then having a one of a kind board is much more satisfying than just buying one that is just like hundreds of others and then when it brakes you don't have the knowledge or experience to fix it. or it is to me anyway
@memyselfandi6422
@memyselfandi6422 5 лет назад
@@tristanmcleish3825 You can *try* to troubleshoot any issues that may arise, but what if you can't resolve the issue/s no matter how hard you try, the end result being you end up with a non working product and wasted money. You also end up frustrated and think to yourself that, you should have bought a professionally built product which you could now being having fun with. I would prefer to have a professionally built product that looks neat and tidy rather than building my own product which would end up looking ghetto and may not be as sturdy as a professionally built product.
@Petr214
@Petr214 5 лет назад
@@memyselfandi6422 your problem isn't that you can"t resolve it.. it's that you don't even want to think about how to do it. Don't know how? Search, learn, educate yourself and try again. by just going out and buying stuff, you're losing a big part of the experience. People used to be more self reliant.. sigh
@memyselfandi6422
@memyselfandi6422 5 лет назад
@@Petr214 I'd still prefer to buy it rather than build it, because while you (for a hypothetical example) are building your ugly looking frankenstein monstrosity, I am off having fun with my pleasure to look at and use, professionally built by experts who know what they're doing, electric skateboard. So who's the dummy in this situation, the guy having fun immediately or the guy who is slaving away still *trying* to build his toy who can't have any fun until his toy is built ? Would you rather purchase a gourmet meal at a restaurant which was prepared and cooked by a professional chef or would you prefer to buy the raw ingredients and *attempt* to make that same meal yourself at home ? If you attempted to make that meal for yourself from raw ingredients, do you think it would taste as good as the meal cooked by the professional chef, of course it wouldn't. *by going out and buying things you're losing a big part of the experience* What I lose in experience I make up for and gain in immediate satisfaction, fun and pleasure and I save heaps of time. *People used to be more self reliant* Yes they did, but that was in an age where people had no choice other than self reliance. If people throughout the ages had a choice (they didn't, but if they did), I am pretty sure convenience would win out over self reliance every time. In this modern day and age only gluttons for punishment would voluntarily choose self reliance over convenience. To take this argument to the extreme, do you or did you : Make your own clothes by sewing material together to make pants and shirts and underwear etc. ? Most likely not because it's more convenient to buy rather than make your own clothes. Build your own house ? (hypothetically speaking, because a lot of people rent rather than buy or even build these days) Cut your own hair ? I could keep going with different examples but I think you understand where I am going with this ?

More speed yes, but also less torque. It is possible to make it switchable between delta and star windings, so could use it like a gear shift. It would be a lot of fiddly work!

Don't ride your electric skateboard in the sand. The iron from the sand will degrade your motors. Also, incasing batteries in 3D printed plastic is a very bad idea. It's brittle and will not last very long. It is not heat-resistant (unless you cover the batteries with Kapton tape). If you want a plastic enclosure, you should use injected molded plastic.You need to have some foam or rubber to cushion the battery pack from the deck. Keep the metal enclosure and use suspension trucks (avenuetrucks.com/).

Hey guys and jehugarcia , I just wanne say that I was inspired to build this DIY Skateboard and I have done that. It is finnaly finnished, and I have to say It works realy well but just like jehugarcia said the tork is there but the speed is missing. so I will overvoltage the hub moters to a 12s battery, now I'm running them on 36 Volt (42v). I think most people don't have that much money so this is the cheapest build there is(?) for me the final cost where around 260 euro's (303 dollar). It is a lot of fun! Thanks for the great video!

What esc are you using and how do you bridge them to one controller? Any help is appreciated!

If someone is still reading the comments, open your hoverboard hub motor. What you will find out is that the motors coils are in WYE configuration. Change it to DELTA configuration and it will make the motor spin approximately 1.7 times faster than before. WARNING: this may overheat your motor, so be cautious! I made a electric longboard with one hoverboard hub motor, vesc, vesc remote and power tool batteries. First the board drove ~11mph. After the modification with same battery voltage (36v) the board drove ~19mph. What you will loose is a bit of torque and the motor will heat up a bit. I drove the board up some really long hills and the motor was not even too hot to touch, just warm. I'm quite sure you will burn the motor if you also raise the voltage alot, so please be careful. The motor still has plenty of torque after the modification, so even with one motor you are able to climb hills. 19mph is plenty of speed for inexprienced riders, like myself.

since then hub have come a long way, some over 12kw or more in power and price is cheaper than a 7kw belt motor.

Good vid. However in my 40 yrs working as a mechanic, machinist, welder (I'm 57, finished trade school early) gotta say buddy only a Kamikaze warrior or suicidal maniac would use those axle/wheel couplings in this application.

Are those NCR18650B cells Panasonic or LiitoKala cells? I want to get a similar setup going and found a good deal on LiitoKala ones that I believe are not fake cells. Any experience with this stuff?

how about power management system? what if a cell not balanced and overheated while you are charging(i mean 4 18650 battery in one case)? lets say you have 4 18650 cell in case and 2 of them are around %70 capacity and the other 2 18650 cell are about %40 percent . will charger spot the %100 full 2 lith-ion battery and continue to charge other 2 battery ??? or continue charging 4 of them even if its overheated??? i am confused...????

well you didnt use a BMS so have fun with your fire hazard #futurebuildgoals jkjk the board is awesome, I just built a 52V ebike, having way too much fun. Go install a BMS asap otherwise your cells will charge and discharge unevenly over time and create those wonderful hoverboard fires you mentioned.

How about the like 8.5 inch tires or 10 inch I know they had 6 I'm not sure if that's what you already have or the 8.5 but obviously 10 is bigger not sure it that would provide more speed

Well... The tires look like shit but i imagine if you shop around you can find something better. Also i'd drill a hole in the trucks and connect the motors that way. The shaft couplers are easy but also hella ugly,

vocke.tv/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=20150722_hoverboard_sch.pdf what the 4 wires of charging pin does? can i exclude the entire board and charge directly from the external charger? the li po pack already contains BMS. do i just need to connect the 2 of 3 pins to the battery? black and red? thanks in advance.

That is way to Mich power and to little speed, if u made larver wheels for it then it could be much faster

the skateboard in the sand makes me cringe, any iron in it will stick in the magnets and cause a bunch of wear.
