All I wanted was a video on how sfogliatella is made, as it is my most cherished pastry. This video is a work of art. Kylie, you should have your own TV show! Sorry, but I have to go watch any and allllll of your videos! I feel so fortunate to have found this video and you God bless.
I love seeing how your life has changed over the years. I'll always remember watching a video about your struggles and dealing with some sadness. But wow...look where life has taken you! You seem so at peace and so happy. What a blessing!❤
My story about meeting my Italian boyfriend…. I was playing piano/singing at a living room concert and there he was. I’m Italian so wanted to say yes to a date. On my break I asked him, first 😉what is the Italian pastry (and it’s not a cannoli). He said sfogliatelle. 14 years later, we’re still together 💓❤️💕 can’t wait to try your recipe !!!
I remember my lovely Italian piano teacher. After every lesson, she and her sisters would serve me delicious home made Italian pastries. It was a delight to finish my lesson. (Did you know that Jordan Peterson is part Italian? He’s a treasure to this world.)
Wow.... I thought that could be Jordan Peterson. So he was indeed the one on the podcast?! That is great. I love listening to him too. And he has such a high intelectual vibe to him. It really appeals to a need in me. This intellectual depth is nourishing me.
@@TenTenJ Whille watching Kylie and listening to Jordan, I am gravitating more and more to my "tribe"..... Although I am not at all a "Tribe-person". I don't like "tribes" so much. I very much enjoy standing on my own feet. But This is what appeals to me.... and it strenghtens me. It is like becoming more sovereign while acknowledging more people are blossoming into this unique flavour.
I’m salivating! I never could have imagined how many steps there are to making this delicious pastry! Watching you labor with love and artistry, I couldn’t help reflecting, that if baking were theater, this was a beautiful choreography. Thank you so much!
I see some of the Pottery purchased a bit ago?! Farina.. and I love the marble top perfect for perfecting this Italian pastry, I think you are as sweet as what you've just made and look how happy Guido is, he gets to test it all. Yum yum Thank you and lovely scenery! I miss Italy
Kylie, you have the patience of a saint! You take such time and care in preparing and sharing your recipes. What a visual feast! I do not know if this was conscious or subconscious on your part, but the Jordan Peterson conversation, the visual glimpses into your surroundings, and the history of these wonderful Italian delicacies all shared a common thread. Brilliant storytelling, yet again!!! Thank you so much. You transport me to Italy every week!!!
Thank you. Yes, historical recipes and meditative repetition in work always make me think about larger discussions on humanity, which Peterson does so well. ✨
A sfogliatella, is a shell-shaped filled Italian pastry native to Campania. Sfogliatella means "small, thin leaf/layer", as the pastry's texture resembles stacked leaves.
Bless those hands which made these delicious La Sfogliatella. Salute you for your patience and all the hard work that has gone it. Hours to make, which in minutes will be polished off. Love your collection of bowls, flower vase in the corner abundantly filled with lilac blooms , the graceful swan, beautiful cut glass and the gorgeous tea towel. Their colours add so much warmth to your cosy kitchen.
I had a sfogliatella for breakfast at a BNB in Napoli. I was in a rush but the owner said 'But you must eat!'. And I'm glad I did. This delicate yet complicated dessert was absolutely wonderful. It was still warm on the inside and the taste of orange was so subtle I thought I was imagining it. I will have to try this at least once. Grazie mille for sharing.
I love the flow of your life and envy the expertise and dedication with which you produce this channel, expending energy and time editing after filming, perhaps not always getting 8 hours of sleep. I hope you fully intend to have nannies, b/c newborns and toddlers bring down the house. I would fully understand if you took off a few years or just created fewer videos in future. That would make something already special priceless. You're lit from within, like the sun.
Such a wonderful video, I am a chef at heart so I love watching you cook, and love to see the sparkle in Guido's eyes when he eats what you make. You two are adorable and he always looks like he hit the jackpot with you Kylie.
One of my favorite experiences while travelling in Italy twice for four months total, was enjoying my breakfast pastry and cappuccino el fresco, each and every morning, soaking up the ambiance.
Though I would never have the patience to make this delicious pastry, I used to eat it a lot when I lived in NYC, where it is widely available at Italian bakeries, where so many have Southern Italian roots. So delicious.Watching you make it was like a meditation- all lit with that warm Italian glow. You are just beautiful, Kylie.Guido is a very lucky man!
Kylie, I’m so happy right now. This is my favorite pastry. I never thought i would be able to create this in my home. Since I’m not in Italy, i thought i might never be able to eat it again. One day when I am lonely and have nothing to do I am going to try this! Thank your for this precious recipe
Video credit for this amazing shot. This video is astoundingly. We really appreciate everything that you do. This is exactly why we're following you !!!!
Kalie what timing! Just this morning 5am, I was looking at recipies and thought how hard could this be? I have been wanting to make these for a long time, but how is the pastry lamination achieved? And here you are! Seeing you do the second stretch to thin out the dough made all the difference! Thankyou so much, thankyou for the italian lesson along the way! Guido is so lucky! Ciao
Wonderful that you listen to great thinkers while creating this lovley pastry The start of the day is such a gem in spite of all chores that awaits A well prepared full breakfast is stage one even going to Mars... the countryside....labour... Thoughts of deep meaning
Wow! What a beautiful labor of love! I’ve baked all my life and never seen anything so labor intensive. I can see why people buy them, but there is something so special about homemade. Love from Southern California 💗
I tried making these last year and failed epically. But your instruction clarified the process for me. Ieri ho fatto queste, e mia mamma ha mangiato due e da solito non mangia mai le dolce. Grazie, Kylie.
Graci! My wife's family is from Naples and I am a Chef and Baker by trade. This recipe is my grail pastry recipe which I will be making this week. Results to follow...
Wowee! Beautiful proccess! Loved the sound of mixing by hand-Visceral. I've made puff pastry & it is so worth the time. Now I see another use for my Marcato pasta roller! Thankyou Kylie
The best sfoghiatella I have eaten was in Cimitile, Napoli, with the filling of tender very fresh ricotta. The outer pastery was exquisite. I lived there for 5 years and I love this neopolitan pastry. Love unites ALL PEOPLE. You are exceptional at making dough. Our compliments.
OMG YOU LISTEN TO JORDAN PETERSON TOO!?! It's always so cool when you realize a detail about another person's life that matches up with your own.... this just made me so happy because I've been listening to a lot of Jordan Peterson's podcasts lately. Much love
Mesmerizing visuals! As someone who is married to an Italian as well and have learned the most wonderful recipes, all I can say is that your videos are amazing. And JP in the background is the added bonus we all need. Beautiful 😍 Edit: I make these sfogliatelle as well and I know another way of making them. It takes a shorter time in my opinion. I stretch all the dough at once on a big table with the help of starch which helps make the these layers basically transparent. Then I cut all of the sheet of dough in stripes and butter them and then put them one over the other and then give the pastry the cigar shape. In northern Italy they are filled with the same filling as apple strudel.
Oh my gosh, what an intense recipe. A labor of love for sure! Thanks so much for the English and Italian ~ so helpful for those of us studying the language. Incredibly beautiful film and music. So inspiring!
How absolutely beautiful where you live!!!! I have eaten a sweet something my Italian landlord made and would tell me to come eat whenever she saw me..she was a grandmother living alone and I was only 17.in 1970..very shy ...I miss her to this day...it was very thin with sugar on it..,was so good.. haven't seen it anywhere
Wow, Kylie ! Good to see that you are still around . This pastry looks absolutely sublime. A lot of hard work as well. Thanks for the upload! I’ll have to watch more of your videos . CIAO !
I don't know that I'll ever have the patience to do all that by hand. Much of the mixing I'd do with a machine, I'll confess...but that stretching...I'd have to have a full two weeks' vacation off work to pull that off, it seems. And even then I'm not sure I'd have the patience. 😅 I'm better at dealing with savory dishes. But I fully appreciate the energy that goes into something like this. It's truly a work of art, and the visuals of the fields beyond your house, along with your kitchen just added to it. Waking up to that view every morning would be worth getting up early for. (I'm a night owl by nature, even though I get up early for my job.)
Oh my the joy on Guido’s face when he bit into them, was our joy.....good for you Kylie, they looked amazing, what we do for love............Donna in Toronto
Honestly, I have so much respect for anyone who makes pastries! But Kylie, you always make a point with your music choices 👏 I can't find the song in the middle and at the end of the video. If somebody knows this song, please do share 🥰 I simply love it! Like I'm in another dimension, in another time 💕
When Guido bit into the pastry and I heard the crunch, my mouth salivated immediately. I never knew how labor intensive it was to make this and I don't think I have the skills to make this half as well as you. Great job Kylie!
Kylie your videos are so calming. Help us to see and to seek beauty in life... I do not think I could find time to make such a time-consuming recipe but I can see how meditative it is for you, so I am gonna watch your video many times... Thank you and please make more videos :*
Holy smokes! That is a lot of work, but they look like little puffs of Heaven! I promise I will never make them, because, frankly, I have no patience, and hate baking, but kudos to those lovelies who attempt this. Kylie, you are amazing! Not only making these delectable treats, but sharing the recipe in English and Italian. Bless your sweet and generous heart!
Thank you. Yes, I do wonder how many people actually turned on the subtitles. Sometimes when it’s all in English the Italian viewers complain and one of the most common questions I get is how to persist with learning Italian… so hopefully someone found it useful.
I love how you combined cooking with beach images, made the recipe even more yummy! I barely cook so seeing you in action motivates me a lot. I have a very fragile stomach so more home cooked meals would help me! P.S - you posted the video late I assume, I checked at 1 am and was still not on. You are so committed, you never wait Saturday to post, again you motivate me. Even if it’s late at night you still post, I have so much to learn from you. ❤️
Thanks but I don’t know whether it’s healthy. I just know that routine is good for creatives sometimes and so my rule is I don’t go to bed Friday night until it’s published. But after going to bed at 5am and getting up to film another project all day today, I’m now exhausted! 🤪
@@KylieFlavell Oh dear.. I had a hunch this was the case. And since you are truely an artist in what you do, you might like reading "The Artist Way" by Julia Cameron. Not that you need it, But to come in a 1000% appreciation of yourself as an artist. I know you would love this kind of savvy artist support.
Wow, they look wonderful! It certainly does make us appreciate the work and dedication that goes into baking etc. Hmmmm :) Loved Guidos´smile before he bit into it....priceless.
Thanks so much for this lesson. I have very fond memories of devouring these from the Italian pastry shops when I lived in New York City. I will definitely make these now!
What a treat to see these made. I worked in a European bakery in the Hudson Valley in New York for 12 years where sfogliatella, which we also called "clams" were one of our most popular items. Unfortunately, I never saw them made because we received them frozen and only ever baked them! I always wondered how the pastry was created, amazing! Your method of gently stretching the dough at its thinnest does remind me of when our German baker made strudel. He would use the entire long top of the work bench to do his magic. I would only ever attempt this if I had a pastry maker. We used a giant sheeter machine which I got to use in several bakeries over the years, rolling out pie crusts, cookies for cutting, fondant and chocolate. Isn't creating wonderful food for others a joy!? I'm plenty happy with a feast for the eyes. Thank you so much.
There is no other pastry that I love more. These are not easy to make so the next best thing is to buy them. I live close to many wonderful italian bakeries, so I'm lucky. Your sfogliatelle are perfect, and your video is beautiful as you are.
For those wondering about the song, she posted the name “Te Voglio Bene Assaje” and it’s a generic cover. I have searched quite a bit and can’t find it so if anyone knows how to get this particular song cover please let me know. Love the video!
Hi from Japan 🇯🇵 I just discovered your channel and watched this episode. Wow, I completely forgot about the time and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. It is always good to learn how to cook what we like to eat; knowledge lasts forever!
14:50 - 15:10 I stopped the video multiple times to read every Instagram post with every answer you gave. Somehow it made me think of the book The Artist Way by Julia Cameron. The amount of creativity you let loose and show and share is so overwhelmingly beautiful I want to absorb everything.... It makes me think: "What is the secret?" And especially when will I (with capital i ) release this insane amount of creativity. Not jealousy but admiration, inspiration and an impuls rising to start my own expression of beauty, love and all of my quarky typical me-ness. The kind of "me" that is typical of my life. I had no clue you / one could be soooooo uniquely be just YOURSELF. Like You. Like Me. Thank you with all of my heart. Keep it coming. Never doubt your true good identity
I bought this delicious pastry at a bakery/delicatessen in Bergamo last week without knowing what exactly it was. It just looked so delicious - with all the delicate layers & the filling (pistachio). Eating it a little later at my hotel, I thought it was a bit hard (too crunchy) & dry. I can tell by the delicious sound of Guido biting into them that yours were softer & just a bit crunchy on the outside. As he said, "Mmm - they are warm." Nothing beats a pastry fresh out of the oven... Seeing all the work it takes to make this delicacy makes me appreciate it all the more !!
Yes, sfogliatelle have to be eaten immediately. However, I’ve noticed some places in Italy make them a bit dry and it’s all pastry and barely any ricotta filling.
My word, Kylie .. 👌 the love and time that goes into this! The video was excellent for viewing! Speaking in both English and Italian.. what's not to fall in love with!! This video should go viral! 🥰~ a new subscriber. Grazie
Buongiorno cara Kylie! Waking up to see you make these delicious looking, not to mention 'cinematic' sfogliatelle, has made me feel incredibly hungry. Sadly, they are way too advanced for my basic cooking skills so I will have to enjoy mine at my local caffe Battistini's in Parma. Thank you for another enjoyable film. Bacione, HB
Kylie you are absolutely amazing! I could never attempt to make these! And ironically I just had one of these delicious pastries for the first time in many years and thought to myself how in the world does this crispy spiral pastry get made??!! And you answered it showed me the process I was blown away! I can't believe how you were able to stretch it and it didn't tear!
Complimenti.
Kylie I have made several of the recipes that you have shared however this one I will do as you said and appreciate how much work goes into making them next time I am in Italy and eating one. I don’t have the equipment or truthfully the patience that you have. It was another beautiful video and thank you for sharing.
Your cooking episode looks to be one of the best sections in your channel. You seem to have such good recipes and good knowledge of culinary. Just don't forget dinner recipes that take hunger away although desserts are delicious add to a delicious and fulfilling meal. 😛
