Balan, Wandering Knight Budget Commander Deck Tech | MTG

Today, I'm going over a budget commander deck that I've built around Balan, Wandering Knight, a Mono-white commander suggested by a viewer! This is a Voltron deck focused on getting Balan to a lethal amount of power with Double Strike and at least one evasive keyword.

Cool thing about damage trigger things such as Mask of Memory, with double strike you'll trigger them twice.

I made mine a mix of voltron and cat tribal and it's one of my favorites. I threw in Explorer's Scope, Sword of the Animist and Burnished Hart for ramp, with some artifact/creature 3 or less recursion to get Burnished Hart back repeatedly. I sometimes ramp faster than green decks with all the stuff I throw in there.

Balan is a female character btw, Canon in all versions. I dig the deck though, I built a pretty crazy high end powered version of this deck and it's my favorite overall. One addition I'd suggest is Oswald fiddlebender. He's just absolutely what you want to be doing in that deck

oh interesting! honestly, I probably should look more deeply into the lore instead of just looking at the cards themselves... it's an entire aspect of MTG that I've sorely neglected and clearly led to me missing a key, basic detail like if a character was male or female. And Oswald Fiddlebender would be an amazing include!

@@EDHToolbox it's totally cool, I thought she was a guy till I looked up the lore. If you're looking at the jumpstart version it's pretty easy to tell though. I don't know if I like fiddlebender or stoneforge mystic more in my Balan deck, but it's certainly that close

Hammer of Nazan also has the ability where as long as it is on the field any equipment you play can be automatically equipped to a creature you have in play without paying its equip cost.

Wow only $44. Nice. Sounds like a fun deck. The only changes I would look at would be adding more lands and/or protection.

Just out of curiosity, would adding some walls with reach or flying be beneficial to this deck to hold back opponents a little longer, or is that more so a waste of card space?
