Shows what can happen when you have a motivated focused leader. Swen is focused on making amazing games. What motivates the CEOs of EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda and others? Larian has the gamer's back.
And an independent veteran studio with no one to answer to but themselves and an actual budget. Of course they have ALL the budget now. BG3 grossed at least 600 million. So far. It's not out of the realm of possibility it'll end up making a billion or already passed that mark.
The fact the biggest "lows" of Larian for him was the passing of some of his collegues is amazing to see. He's def invested and it's trully missing in this industry.
I'm 40 years old and have been around from the beginning of gaming, and I can honestly say that I've never played a game 20 times in a row from start to finish, with each subsequent play feeling better. Before this, The Witcher was my favorite game, and I played it three times. Dragon Age, I also played three times. Unbelievable, I am still playing BG3.
@@sesimie didn't they mean baldur's gate 3? Vincke said it has a reference to the next game they're working on. It will probably be difficult to find since we don't know any details and it most likely refers to a part of the plot like the ones in dos2 did (the ones @Dr_Slash mentioned), so it might be difficult to know what to look for.
Larian and Swen Vincke are the best this industry can offer! Thanks Larian for all the good work you have done!! Let this be a shining example for the rest of the industry, especially the big bad ones like EA, Micro$oft, etc.
Not gunna lie, this was the best interview I have ever seen with and game developer and interviewer. Amazing job to both guys for being so comfortable with one another and thanks for letting us know they are working on another big title! Job well done!😊
I am 49 years old and have led many teams. Everything I see about Swen just knocks me out. His balance of obviously caring about his team and the quality of the product they create is perfect. I would love to work for that man. Great leader.
Great interview! Really clever way to try to get more out of Sven about their next game. But fair and square you rolled a 1 and Sven gave the appropriate answer. The question remains, what would he have said when the dice would have shown a 20. We will never know!
It seems a lot of people think “Jake’s Encyclopedia of Eels” in BG3 may hint at one of the new games. My guess “The Secrets of Skyhorn Lighthouse” since Eelfolk are a major part of the adventure. Also since it’s a well beloved community game on DM guild they wouldn’t have to deal with the expensive licensing like they did with BG3.
Great Interview! I really hope Larian keeps being independent and keeps making awesome games. I will literally buy anything they make going forward, they've earned my respect and trust.
In Divinity: Original Sin 2, there is a reference to Baldur's Gate 3. This reference can be found in Act 2, inside the Academy, in a room with a blackboard. If you read the blackboard, you'll see "Project BG3" mentioned, along with a note saying "secrets to the source," which is a clear nod to Baldur's Gate 3.
Could the tarnished ring be a hint at their upcoming game? A team-up with Fromsoft for an RPG in the Elden Ring world? Seems unlikely, but Larian creating Baldur's Gate probably seemed unlikely too back when they were working on their previous games.
Seeing the DoS easter egg after he talked about teasing the next game was amazing!! DoS with this next gen tech and cutscenes would be amazing! I miss Red Prince
I don’t think that the IP owners could afford to hire Lairan and honestly I think Larian prefers to work on their own stuff without restrictions. And there are some decent vampire the masquerade games out there, they just don’t compare to Larian’s insane high quality. I personally enjoyed playing the swan song game that game out a couple years ago. I’d love to see someone make a really good werewolf the apocalypse game, but werewolf is one of the least popular WOD games so more likely someone would make a hunter or mage game first.
It's called the World of Darkness universe, not White Wolf. Also, Larian excels at level design and combat in general, which are really not the forte of the WoD games. I'm not so sure that they would make great games for that setting.
Hoenstly thank the hells for sven and the team, by far one of the best games i have played since the original! noo fluff no bs no ripp off, just a GOOD game to dive into. bravo.
I hope to see more games like BG3 in the future! And by that I mean the love the fevs put in it and how imerssive and deep the game is. I REALLY wish to see Mass Effect game like this. Andromeda was fun side story, but the next game must be good! I need that for my mental health.. xD
The B-roll footage on these interviews contains so many spoilers, not just on this video but many videos of its like; I think it's because they want to illustrate the most dramatic moments of the game to reinforce what is said, but there should be spoiler alerts at the start of such videos and there almost never is.
It will not be D:OS3, Swen already said that in other interviews. He stated that he wants to return to the Divinity IP eventually but that DOS3 would not be their next project.
@@bingonight1504 I’m obssesively checking the discord … I wish I could take part of the beta of patch 7 they’re gonna do… can’t wait to get my hands on that modding tool kit
I couldn't play BG3 because of isometric, and I know thats an issue for millions of people. 3rd person in the next rendition and it will really take off.
yeah the wokeness needs to go all the DD people I know all have a family and kids lol not one gay I ever seen play the game. kids need to be able to play a kids game. the acting was really weak but next game if theres no wokeness and no bad words lol it makes it cheaper
4:45 - To anyone wondering, here are some of the possible references to BG3 found in DOS2 (there may be more, but these are the ones I noticed): - There's an item called Mind Maggots, which is very similar to BG3's tadpoles - The plan of the White Magisters is referenced as "the Grand Design" in multiple books and notes - In his final dialogue, Tarquin mentions "a mysterious race from another world - beings that feed on mind" - Also, during his last dialogue, Fane mentions that "octopuses are plotting-", but stops before finishing the sentence
Oh dear god. Larian's masterful cinematics were the product of inexperienced in making cinematics. Holy shit, now that they ARE experienced, imagine the pure gold will get next.
I would not be surprised if Sven did give some insightful nugget of a nat20 was rolled. Not a spoiler but something that people in the know could easily see.
I need something to fill the hole in my heart bg3 has left. No other game even comes close to comparison, and it hurts. I want to go on another journey, with characters who are complex and likable, in a world full of mystery and magic and things to do.
If you're looking for story first, I would REALLY recommend Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It cant hold a candle to the production value of BG3, with its cinematics and mocap, but other than that, it is one of the best RPGs of all time imo. And I've been playing since the first Baldurs Gate and then some :)
I started playing DIvinity Original Sin 2 which is Larians most previous game and its very similar in that you can see how they build bg3 off of it and perfected it
Codenames usually have nothing to do with the actual title or content. The point is to obscure. It seems larian code names are literally just svens dogs names
I bet Swen, being flemish, read all "de rode ridder" comic books in his yought. Legendary epic 200+ series about a wandering knight. With a subset of books where he has adventures as a knight of the round table. A game based on that series would be awesome.
@@jeroencrabbe thats a pretty interesting point. I have not heard about ""de rode ridder" before but it just seem to some what similar to some elements of dnd :)
Swen has said previously say they're doing a new IP, and I'm hazarding that when Swen talks about something big, he means something larger than D:OS (as much as I love that series) so I'm wondering if D:OS3 might be "Sonny", the exploratory one.
@@ILoveEvadingTax no they aren't doing a new DOS, Sven said about it some time ago. 1st new game will be somewhat short and will test new tech for a huge-mega-rpg, which is a 2nd project.
It would have been nice to see the upper city. And see Cyric another villain who might have shown up. I am disappointed their creation kit for the game is going to be so limited. But I understand trying to make changes like creating new quests or altering storylines like that have been done in the Bethesda games would caused all sorts of problems. Larian did a great job.BG3 is my most favorite game of all time.
I believe you can actually blame Hasbro/WotC for a lot of this. Whilst Swen has tried to downplay it, its pretty clear that recent decisions made by Hasbro and WotC management has soured the prior relationship between them and Larian. Still, whilst I am also sad for the same reasons you are (I so wanted to freely visit the Upper City), you have to commend Larian for choosing to abandon a guaranteed moneymaker (namely a paid DLC for BG3) in favour of pushing on with their own new IP's.
