Baldur's Gate 3 Developers React to Under 6 Minute Speedrun

Even in Early Access, Baldur's Gate 3 is an incredibly long game. So, of course, we were surprised to see that speedrunner Professor Palmer can finish the game in under six minutes. With a playthrough this quick, we knew we had to show Larian Studios what was possible in their game. So ride along with Alexandre Barrette (QA Lead), Farhang Namdar (World Building Director), and Nick Pechenin (Lead Systems Designer) as they watch and react to years of their hard work getting crushed in a matter of minutes.

@@redneck1st555 i usually get up to piss, thoroughly wash my hands and return with a drink and food. By the time I get back its 32% loaded. I then watch the entirety of One Peace to pass the rest of the time.

@@Newtons_Ghost I Understand that there and to be honest with you I can't remember any game that I've played where the load times were so long. True I play on a 3 yr old Laptop but even Skyrim loads fast and look how old it is. And it's heavily modded as well

@@Zerhapy Well yes I understand that there but I've got a decent laptop with a 2080 Gpu 16 gigs of ram a 500gig NVME drive and a 1T SSD gaming drive so I know it's not my rig as I can run every game I play on the highest settings without a problem.

@Warlock You guys obviously don't play tabletop D&D. It's like playing online chess where the knight moves differently. But sure, if ure having fun that's what matters, but if u go to Larians forums, many D&D players like me are very critical of the whole D&D "experience" included in the game. I mean, mages can still learn cleric spells from scrolls lol... everyone can bonus action disengage lol..

@@xbon1 I'm playing on an SSD drive and trust me the load times are slow. I'd hate to see what they are on a mechanical drive. My next Pc will be two NVME M.2 drives. just need to be able to get ahold of the 6800 GPU and 5800 CPU and I'll be all set to rock on the build

So it's actually a pretty in depth trick. You have to cast jump on laezel, she jumps to middle to trigger surprise initiative guaranteeing she goes first. Then, we stealth with the other character to not join the fight, jump to center, and then THROW Laezel up to the top.

@@RainbowDemon I know, I'm in 5 d&d 5e groups rn myself, just, as a video game, if you wanted to say 'we are all stealthing to this area' you could have it set so the entire party moves, but they still make their own dice rolls. Would just be a fast option lol

The skip by going through the floor isn't actually a jump. It's a throw. it's actually a pretty in depth trick. You have to cast jump on laezel, she jumps to middle to trigger surprise initiative guaranteeing she goes first. @@lg6707 By definition those two things are one and the same... EARLY access implies in the title that "you have access before the game is finished" so... the answer is yes, primarily because you get the finished game upon official release.

Imagine working on something for years only to watch someone completely bypass all your hard work and beat it in such a short time. It's strangely flattering that someone would love your game so much to go through the trouble of learning it so well to beat it as fast as possible.

If you do fix the bugs, itll probably just split the run into two different runs. Pre-patch and post-patch and this type of bug might actually be the one case runners might appreciate a patch bc itll make the run more interesting.

though honestly speed-runners probably spend more hours playing a game than the average person, exploring areas and trying different techniques, its just that each run is really short. Though I dont think this technique would have taken much to discover.

@@vovinho technically 60 yes. Even so... what's your point? You get access to the finished game upon release, plus early access, plus usually additional stuff upon said full release, plus you can help the direction it develops in, plus you can still try it out. It's also not like it's a bait and switch, they have like three or four warnings between the store page and owning it that says its early access (with the blurb explaining that more in depth) sooooo... again what's your point?

@@jazzjazzington8244 You do have to keep in mind that the Australian dollar is worth less than an American dollar so if you were to buy it with American dollars in Australia it would be ~70$ instead (still more, but not 30$ more, only 10$)

Even worse (or better, depending on your point of view): I believe they said there's no vertical cap on jumping _at_ _all_ in order to make it feel better in top-down.
