I've gotten a lot of comments about how the narration in this video is too fast -- sorry! Was very anxious recording this because it was my first time doing voiceover for a video. I'll keep this in mind going forward and try to keep things at a more digestible pace. Join my Discord server full of dastardly individuals and dastardlier memes: discord.gg/yzmdzy9WXj
Speedrunning voiceovering 😂 english isnt my main language but i can understand it spoken pretty well, listening to it for 20 years; what makes me harder to follow the phrases here i think its that some portions of the words are whispered or too much compacted and my brain needs to spend a bit more time to analyze them and pan out the correct word, and coupled to the speed it lags behind therefore it has to skip portions of the phrases to keep the pace, resulting for me getting a fragmented message. Nice game speedruns tho!
Elminster patiently waits for Gale in the mountain pass, expecting him to arrive in about a week or two. He knows what he's about to ask of Gale is a great sacrifice. Suddenly, weeks ahead of schedule, Gale lands with a crash, seemingly having fallen from the sky. Before Elminster can even extend a greeting, Gale takes the power and immediately launches into the horizon, just as quickly as he arrived. No more than a minute later, Elminster notices the mushroom cloud forming in the distance.
Judge: You are currently charged with aggravated assault. How do you plead? Speedrunner: Actually, that's something we in the community like to call "HP manipulation".
I mean it's fitting for Gale to have that strength that man is way too ripped for a 8 STR wizard. This is incredible Mae, even tho you explained it so concisely it still went over my head. It just shows how complex and technical the speed running techniques are 👑
I wanna know the reaction of characters like withers or raphael when gale shows up, beats shadowheart to death, puts her into a flaming box and chucks into a mountain at the speed of light
Raph must be especially thrown off his game. He worked so hard rehearsing the cat-and-mouse rhyme and the "you need my help" speeches and Gale just ignores him and rudely lobs a single Magic Missile at him before performing a parlor trick fucked up enough for the Hells themselves. Then Gale and his ex-lovely assistant disappear, and moments later, there's a strange sickly glow beyond the mountains in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. He defused Raph's whole Crown scheme so fast and so absurdly that Raph might not even remember to be pissed off until days after the fact. Withers probably isn't that bothered. He's seen weirder.
I don't think I have seen another speedrunner channel deserve to blow up as this. Lots of effort, right ingredients like clear explanations and communication skills, scripting, not to mention a willingness to listen to feedback. Hopefully the popularity of baldurs gate will help your channel reach a much wider audience. I know it reached me from the RU-vid algo, and hopefully many others.
I always have massive respect for incredibly long games that you can immediately jump to the end to, given enough shenanigans. Something something player freedom if I looked into why I like that, probably. Anyway, that was super awesome! I'll have to send this to my wife, she's been absolutely obsessed with this game lately and already has a hundred hours in it (I know, I know, rookie numbers).
Thats not game giving you options, thats game being buggy mess. Glad you like it, bugs can be good fun (i mean, look at any Bethesda game), but they are not genuine design choice
@@sporepda Most of this would still work without glitches. You can practically skip almost every fight in the game with vision altering spells and super jump, and afaik you can even get into the mind flayer colony from the moonrise prison by jumping into a hole, so you dont even have to get nightsong.
Nothing scream D&D more than putting your dead teammate’s corpse in a crate and yeeting it across the map. I can imagine the game code is like GM desperately flipping his note trying to set the game back to course
I loved how for brief moments this resembled an actual story narration. Would love to hear more storytelling around absurd game glitches in the future. 😂
I had heard the rumours of ppl beating BG3 in less than 5mins, which is insane to me bc I still haven't beat the game ONCE (on PC btw). Mindblowing, thanks for sharing ❤
This is awesome mate. So glad you took reddits advice of putting voice-over on explaining the tricks! Makes it much easier/possible for non-speedrunners like myself to understand what the hell is happening 🙂 Your narration may be fast (i like the speed of it tbh), but it is very concise packing in lots of information with few words. Good job!
It's insane to me how fast you can finish this game considering it has sooo much content. I managed to spend about 60 hours doing everything in act 1 and I am currently in act 2 still.
@@daveyreetz6493 I don't know lots of experiments. I had 700 hours from early access too and I made sure to get every thing in every act like obscure weapons that are normally monster-only. plus I changed builds or respeced after almost every fight bc can't stand ever doing same thing twice
@@daveyreetz6493 you definitely didn’t take your time, or you read the dialogue instead of letting it finish (I personally don’t think that’s taking your time) or you played on story mode. doing most of the things in act 1&2 and even half the stuff in act 3 will easily put you over 55 hours in you’re actually listening to dialogue, speaking with companions, reading books/notes (of course not ALL of them)and what not, especially if you played on tactician. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that style of playing but I personally don’t consider that “taking your time”. I do agree that 300 is ALOT. I think it’s possible to 100% the game in 300 hours lol
The amount of work you guys as speedrunners put into finding as many exploits and glitches, and as much time and practices ya'll put into truly hamming this game is just beautiful- Its insane to see you guys sharpen your runs even more- its unfortunate that the side effect of seeing your runs has warped my perspective of this already hammed on man even more lmao, bless gale 😂 speedrun gale's will live seared into my mind forever 😀 shit makes me howl laughing and i love you guys for it 😂❤
Yeah the speaking was fast, but I really enjoyed it. Helped clear up a lot of questions I had about what the hell was going on in the speedrun. You clearly are quite passionate about it and it was a fun watch. Hope you make more stuff, dropping a subscribe to keep an eye out.
These kinds of comments are part of what make me really happy that I have the opportunity to do what I do. Thanks for the kind words, and definitely stay tuned if you're into these kinds of explanation videos -- I have something coming out within the next few days that should be right up your alley :^)
I have a video to fully explain what's going on with shadowboxing in the works, but in the meantime I highly recommend weedmoder's video on Any% since that one goes a bit more in-depth than I do here
I think this one goes p in depth imo! support the speedrun bing community :3 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iOxhi-odubE.htmlsi=cMbb_qa5roD1xxHx
Interesting, my guess about how the whole stuffing-Shadowheart-in-a-box-thing worked was mostly correct, I just didn't realize the box needed to break. Interesting vid! (P.S. I like your voice, you should do more videos with voiceovers)
thats a hilarious speed run. I've beaten the game probably 5 or 6 times now just normally playing and thought i'd give the run a whirl. Maybe i'll actually try it out now.
It was a step by step process. The container fling was discovered in DoS2, then we found out that dead bodies trigger cutscenes in this game, and we combined that knowledge to get skips like Shadowboxing. Wall clips and stuff like that are done by crazy people like Hati on the CRPG Speedrunning Discord server -- he is an absolute madman
@@maeeeeeee Despite me not being much of a fan of any% speeds, I can't but appreciate the craftmanship, patience and dedication of this community in this process. Congrats :D
I'm playing the game casually and I'm still in act 1. I appreciate that this didn't include any major spoilers despite the fact that it spoiled the ending of the game lol.
Is there an explanation somewhere of how to perform the yeeting part of shadowboxing? You try to put an object somewhere (it fails, but creates a node) How do you get your desired object to be yeeted towards the node? In the video it looks like you just flick the box 1m to the side... I'm sure that part could be used for massive shenanigans by casual players like me.
Changing the playback speed to 0.75 made it easier to understand or you can change it to 1.5 for a speed run. Thanks for the video, really helped understand what going on
I set up the node wrong and successfully got the shadow box once, but Shadowheart ended up in the Abandoned Refuge at Grymforge lol Now I can't get the shadow box to trigger.
It's VERY specific positioning and hard to get, easily the hardest trick in the game. If it's something you want to explore further, check out the CPRG Speedrunning Discord server, where there's a ton more info on it.
Holy shit, I'm 150+ hours in with a few abandoned runs and finally made it to act 3 for the first time. I wont watch the full video cause spoilers but this is insane that skip on the nautiloid is hilarious.
I've been following your videos of this route for a while, so an explanation is much appreciated. Is there an any% category that doesn't involve Shadowboxing? I'm interested in seeing what kind of skips have been discovered throughout this massive game.
I would check out the CRPG Speedrunning Discord server if you're interested in learning more about potential skips, as there's a lot more going on there. You can also check out weedmoder's video on the topic, or check out an Any% No Gale run, where they pull off a whole bunch of crazy stuff in acts 2 and 3.
It's so good that speedrunners dedicate their time to glitching games and abusing mechanics because otherwise, they would be on every possible watchlist in existence. Give these people few weeks and they'll get you nuclear codes 🥶
how do you speak so fast? also had to watch at 0.5x or sometimes 0.25x speed to see the nodes. How do you actually launch the box tho? Is it by moving while it's open?
So, I like the video and I was actually able to follow along with how fast you were talking. That being said, what do you mean by "launch" shadowheart? Do I just move the box containing her into an invalid area again? Is there a specific spot you should move her to? or any invalid surface works?
Also forgot to ask, is this suppose to be done on a specific version like the release version or specific patch? the wall glitch at 1:24 does not seem possible on current patch for me
@@maeeeeeee thanks, i managed it now in the latest hotfix 6. I was missing on those specifics with caping the frames and binding interact button to scroll wheel :)
Great job on your voiceover! It sounds really good! I know how much of a struggle it can be to say sentence from a script correctly. (I've made a few short films).
