I remember watching this in an extras program included with the Stonekeep game CD, I loved it and kept watching it over a number of times. Took me from 1997 when I first heard about it (yes, before it was released) till now to play Baldur's Gate, can't believe it took me so long.
Oh This is for from a hack and slash game. It has an absolutely fantastic story, great NPC interaction and really draws you in to the game world. Fighting is only a small part of this game unlike the action games that claim to be RPG games. There is also a lot of puzzles and mystery to this game and a great deal of depth to the characters in it too. Believe it or not the story in this game was so good it was turned into a novel. Not novel first then game. It's a classic.
There's a mod called "Tutu", which allows you to play BG1 with the BG2 engine. The game still doesn't look that great when played in fullscreen with todays monitors, but if you play it in a window it's still a decent size and looks pretty slick. It's well worth checking out if you want to relive one of the best RPG experiences ever.
My favorite game series ever, and this makes me want to go back and play the first one again, if for no other reason than to hear "Tiax moves! make way!"
The best game I've ever played. I've been enjoying BG since 1999 (then It was released in PL) and I still esteem It. But I have never seen Its trailer before, I've just done it :).
i remember my brother saying how excited he was for this and i was like "no way" but it was one of the best things that happened to my life and im not exxagerating
the cutscenes in this game look like Shrek 1 and the companion characters feel like lifted straight from Conan the Barbarian, but it's a classic masterpiece
Just found my old CD's lately of the original Game, and Add-on Legends of the Sword Coast. I tried to install on Windows 7 - and guess what: It WORKS! Small graphic Errors aside (Inventory "Puppet" and some flying birds), it's still as wonderful as it was back then. Ok, only runs at 720x480 but hey...
Oh, I've beaten that game plenty of times. If I'm remembering where you are correctly, though, the key is, cheap though it is, summons. Lots and lots of summons.
interesting, i never knew about bgtutu. i'm going to check this out thx. i've returned to playing this on my notebook. i dloaded a portable version of bg i put on my 2gig usb. i friggin love this game.
Well D&D rules do allow you to play a god, I have even a handbook just for that. The problem is the journey was ended, there were epilogues for every npc, do you play solo or do you ignore the bg2 ending? Either way it would look just milking the franchise, and wouldn't feel like BG game. I am against any BG3 idea, but I would love to play some good RPGs. All my hopes now go to 2 games: Project Eternity and the new Torment:Tides of Numenera
It's a pity the lightning bolt spell doesn't actually look like it does here in the game. A single target, high damage lightning spell would be a lot more useful than the wall-bouncing suicide move that was in the game..!
@SuperJonirenicus Did not Black Isle studio shut down for 8 years ago, and the game creators was hired different places? To be honest I have always like the black Isle studio, they makes great games. Like Baldurs Gate series, Icewind dale and Fallout 2. Brilliant. Special the last...
@plplplplomg the gameplay is fairly good if you have it set at 60fps, run it in windowed with the high res mod.. graphics are also acceptable at that level... It is all about the story and quite frankly that is what is suppose to matter when it comes to rpgs
best rpg of all times, i still play it today simply because it is DA BEST, today we only see good graphics while the rest of the game sux, is boring and u can finish it in few days, i'm not saying that all of you should play it but if u didnt, you missed out a lot
@nightwishfan1991 I would. I've finished the second one so much I can finish it in a week without trying >_>' I'm such a nerd. I would recommend getting the first one for story purposes, but *spoiler* Sarevok is a bit of a disappointment. Irenicus and Amelyssan in the second one and expansion aren't XD
This game is too huge and complicated (and old) to find a solid downloadable file on the internet. Not everything is free. I don't know where you could buy it... I found Throne of Bhaal on Amazon, but it was newer and thus easier to find... but really this game is one of the best ever. I would warn you if you find it though... if you're used to playing games made today, then you will be very frustrated with the graphics and such. But the game is so good, it's like playing a movie.
You guys sound like old folk re-living the glory days that have long since passed. Baldur's Gate is a great game/series, we get that, but thinking it's the only one out there limits you. If you try new things with an open mind, you'll enjoy life more.
One day, when i will be a very powerfully man and when i will have much more money, I WILL BUY THIS LICENSE and I'll make THE baldur's Gate III In association with mens who make the One and the Two, WITHOUT any commercial attentions, JUST for continue this beautiful RPG Fuck merchandising games, Fuck activison shit, AMEN
i have been searching 4 this game since years ago and i never find it!!!! please someone tell me: where can i download baldur's gate?? please tell me!!!!! i could never play this so recommended game!!!
Yeah I guess but I dunno I hate sequels that are name only. I mean maybe the character could be the child of the bhallspawn or something I dunno maybe they should say fuck it to a sequel and produce a remake. I dunno though it would be cool to play BG3 :D. I guess it depends on story and all that.
How? I mean cmon the game is over. I think a 3rd game would be pointless. The Bhallspawn's journey ends with becoming a god. What possible challenge is there left for the player?
You know, I think it's wrong to compare modern games to these old school style. I mean, they're very different categories: OLD SCHOOL RPGs -> made with love for players who like a great story with charismatic characters, freedom of choice, mental challenges and etc... MODERN GAMES-> Made for 12 years old graphic whores who just like to run around killing everything in the way in a closed enviroment where you just have to kill stuff. note: no logical thinking required.
BTW, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ALL MODERN GAMES, EVEN BECAUSE LOTS OF THEM ARE GREAT AND I LOVE PLAYING THEM, BUT STILL MOST OF THEM IF NOT ALL, HAVE LOST THAT SPECIAL THING THAT THEY USED TO HAVE. I think it's because there's no more passion or preocupation in making an acctually challengening game. if the gamers become "lazy-minded", games will continue to turn into "pretty crap"(great graphics but crappy game).
@hallerbuzz Actually it's not. Dragon Age is a piece of dogshit in comparison, with way too linear and boring characters, campaign, spells/abilities and gameplay. It's a good game, but you'll only place it twice or so. Compare that with BG that has been fun for over a decade. :P
