You've also missed that you can replace spells known with spells from any school, so you can get your choice of Misty Step, Find Familiar, Blur, Mirror Image, and so on from lv7 onwards, as well as every subsequent level. Rituals like Longstrider and Jump (get them from spell replacement at lv4 and 5) are also good choices so you don't need to rely on a wizard somewhere.
When leveling up as EK, you get to pick spells right... but the choices are for the EK.... if you click on replace spell it gives you choices from the Wizard spells to replace some of your EK spells... recommendation is Blur, it's awesome :)
Just so people are aware, the boss in the House of Hope actually does not spawn until you pick up the hammer. You can still get the gloves, helmet and amulet and then leave and come back later if you really don't feel like you're strong enough for him yet. Also, the boots don't come from the House of Hope, they come from the top floor of Wyrm's Rock Fortress.
How? I just finished a playthrough where i just picked the gloves and amulet, never touched the hammer, and i still had to fight the final boss. The moment i picked one of the items it triggered the event where the House tenants become aggressive, even tried to stealth steal the 2 items but it seems it does not work, it flags the fight anyway. Did not even go after Hope.
Since you are using the level 1 spell slots primarily for using the Shield spell, I suggest the dedicating the remaining spell slots to the ritual utility spells, such as Longstrider, Enhance Leap, and Feather Fall. This will help tremendously with mobility during combat. Just make sure to cast these spells prior to entering combat (and they last for 10 rounds, so basically, for your entire fight), so that they don't use the spell slots that you'll be using for the Shield casts.
It's interesting that people keep saying "this is broken". You can play the game as intended or you can min max any number of builds to get these high powered results. That's DND 5E too. There are plenty of DM videos out there talking about players that "break" the game. Build your builds, enjoy this game, but don't call the game broken because you think it's cheating because you slapped together a level 12 with some great end game items. However, if you're in act two as a level 12 character, yeah you probably cheated and broke the game.
I don’t like that 99% of content creators say this is broken this is op etc because the creators will go and most times take those things out.l and ruin the builds for others
So I've been theory crafting a build of my own for an Eldritch Knight to be played through as a main character. My plan at least theoretically, is to start LV1 Fighter for the con saving throws prof, as well as the armor benefits, then swap to Warlock for 5 levels, then finish up with the final 6 levels on Fighter/Eldritch Knight. The reasons why are below. 1) You get access to Eldritch Blast which is a great ranged option for when you need it, though you won't be using it a ton 2) You get Devil's Sight much, much earlier in the game with this build path so you can fight in the darkness really early in the game, as early as Act 1 I believe, while also freeing up your helmet slot so you can throw this on another character(Shadowheart Cosplay Dark Justisicar build baby!), and use that slot for something else, maybe Balduran's Helmet, which also prevents crits on the wearer. 3) You can use Charisma as your main stat modifier also improving all dialogue options/trade options/while also being able to use it for your weapon via the Blade Pact etc., 4) You still get a third attack at LV5 Warlock, and LV5 Fighter, 1 level earlier than LV11 Fighter, 5) You get an additional two, LV3 spell slots that are rechargeable on short rest :) You do lose out on a Feat, but you still get 3, and if you're really worried about it, go Half-Orc and get Savage Attacker for free :) Just my two cents.
Dude, that's actually something I was planning on uploading later on for folk to have variety. And you're completely right, eldritch blast for enemies outside the fog it's amazing, then use the bonus action and decrease resistance from the Eldritch Knight to kill the dudes trapped inside of it!
@@Teedeedatd It doesn't. The Warlock multi attack comes from bound weapon. It's a different multi attack than the regular martial classes. So it's not really stacking. It's just a different one.
@@Teedeedatdwarlock pact weapons gets a second attack at level 5 that's separate from a straight extra attack, that being said it's not actually supposed to stack and is going to be fixed
I did a eldritch knight build and i love it. What is amazing in strength based characters is Giant Hill elixir. Being able to obtain 21/27 (cloud giant) strength, early in the game, gives the opportunity to put points somewhere else. As main character, having charisma and wisdom is confortable. As a side char', i maxed out strenght and take Bloodlust elixir for an extra action almost every turn
I've been trying this build for Lae'zel with good results. Shield is helping her survive a lot, and feather fall (as a ritual) because gith are so good at jumping (combined with Athlete feat).
Credit to you for owning up to your mistake. I'm currently trying out lae'zel as a eldritch pally, I'm thinking 4/8 would be a good mix so I get 3 feats, for GWM savage attacker and ability improvement for more strength, use the potion from moonrise on her and her strength will be sorted and I can ditch con for wisdom when I get the necklace for lots of big smites.
If you don't only use auntie Ethel's but also the potion of vigor from astarion biting the vendor in moonrise towers and the mirror of Shar in the house of grief you can get a bonus +5 on strength making a 24 on it possible
@@twizzyfizzy4101 you forgot it's Baldur's Gate, not dnd. I used it just like this for my tavern brawler monk and it worked perfectly. I put 19 points in strength and the free +5 also in strength and now I got 24. It works
Im going to do this build with Defence instead of Great Weapon Fighting (+1AC). Then go and get the Blood of Lathander Legendary Mace and use it in conjunction with the best shield (minimum +2 AC) i can find :) Then we will be the ULTIMATE UNHITTABLE TANK!
HUGE mistake is thinking no one will hit you when all it takes is a failed save vs hold person and the enemy CAN and will crit hit you like a freight train or cast AOE spells to slam you into the dirt.

I dont know if I got this right, but the whole point of going eldrich knight in this case was just for the shield spell and using blind once in a while? Is that really worth losing the maneuvres of battle master like disarm, riposte and precision attack?
Savage Attacker does waaaay better with a 1d10 or a 1d12 than it does with a 2d6 greatsword. Its almost a waste of a perk if you use with a greatsword. Its because a greatsword will always trend towards the median even with savage attacker. Whereas with a battleaxe or polearm which are single dice rolls will trend toward the highest number with savage attacker. With a battleaxe you'll be doing 12 damage around 30% of the time, and with greatsword you'll roll 12 far less frequently
Although you are right about the fact that separating the damage in multiples dices makes you tend toward the average damage, when a single dice will be as likely to hit an extreme or the average, this does not change the influence of advantage at all, because the increase of average damage won’t change (around 33%). Instead of tending to the average you’ll tend to 1,33x the average. While with a single dice, you’ll tend to nothing special, and you’re average damage will still be 1,33x the average. You only have 16% to hit 12 on a d12 with advantage, not 30%. So if you want to be more likely to hit the high end of the damage rolls, at the price of being likely to hit the low end as well, you’re right you have to use a battle axe not a Greatsword. But having advantage will have the exact same increase of damage for both cases.
Any way you could go over how to effectively play this character? I'm new to BG3 and D&D and I'm so lost, I'm about 12 hours into Act 1 and I'm pretty sure I'm just not playing the character correctly.
What is tgr advabtage over playing a Drow (for darkness) and go Battlemaster instead? Just the Shield spell? I don't think that's better than all the maneuvers. combined. Seems like you are not doing anything with the subclass. You are just benefitting from Fighter being a strong class in general.

I mean, you WOULD get an advantage. Eldritch blast for the enemies that stay outside the fog. And also Eldritch does have bonus actions on attacks after cantrips, both of them sound fairly good to me!
@@rpjames8 ofc pure fighter would also pick up an extra feat and warlocks could get fear on crit or temp hp on kill.. tough choice. Also fighters can make use of the +2 perma str pot, but warlocks can get imp darkness vision opening up a ring slot. the plot thickens >
Warlock is great to have but it's worth noting str is way easier to build around than charisma. Pact of blade is good but the weapon we want adds str modifier twice and that doesn't work with pact of blade. Also there's a potion in act 2 that gives +2 str for free. Overall str will be much higher damage so straight Eldritch knight is very strong. Taking warlock would add spell slots but the spells wouldn't do fantastic, also considering Eldritch knight casts with intelligence and warlock is charisma, main goal is str, unless you abuse potions its quite difficult to optimize all 3 stats and you'd lose out on quite a bit of damage AND a feat. Now, Fighter + Warlock is fantastic and very strong, just don't do the Eldritch knight subclass. Warlock multiclass creates what Eldritch knight wants to be with any fighter subclass and you'd only have to focus cha and str. No int required. In theory with str potions and a focus in charisma you'd be able to reach 21 str and 20 charisma easily making warlock strong and fighter strong. In doing so the best option would be pact of chain for a summon that can attack twice or tome for extra cantrips you won't use. Eldritch blast would be doing 1d10+5 x 1/2/3 and youd be dishing out full melee damage. It's worth noting while cha warlock pact of blade can be great in melee combat, because we want the str modifier on the sword twice you'd have to have str at 20+ even with pact of blade on it. And since the pact extra attack isn't meant to stack with normal extra attack and will be removed it just seems like a lot of extra work to simply cast Eldritch blast and get devilsight earlier
@@imnoah004 There has been no mention afaik that bladepact is a bug and not a feature. Regarding weapon choice the sword might dish out some more damage, but the spear fits this build like no other, giving umlimited freecast darkness, +1d6 dmg, blindness immunity and adv on saving throws. EK using intelligence is of no consequence as spell slots will be used for utility and not damage, mainly shield spell. EB is not useless at all as most creatures are very reluctant to enter the darkness, especially ranged mobs who often prefer to skip their turn instead of approaching
It´s the best build I know so far for ranged combat. 5 Warlock gives 3 Eldritch Blasts, plus bonus action weapon attack -> longbow. That makes 4 consistent ranged attacks without needing to use limited resources.
Seems like Battlemaster Subclass has much more utility than Eldrich Knight…unless you’re playing completely solo for some reason. Disarming Atk, Pushing Atk, and Riposte are great! Riposte for invisible mobs is really nice. Athlete feat is amazing for maxing ate/dex and adds 50% jump distance. Plus it’s just more of a pure fighter with much better mobility

I just always build around having elixirs of giant strength. With 18 dex and a Yuan-Ti Scalemail that is 19 AC in act 1 with great initiative. With 22agi and Armor of Agility that is 23AC end game.
What race would you say would be pretty good for this? Thinking Tieflings or Orcs? ofc anything would work but which race would have more of an edge for this kinda build?
gnome for int/wis/cha advantage on saving throws, halfling for rerolling 1s, orcs for crits and free res once, wood (half)elf for more movement, humans for more proeficiencies, basically any race has benefits and i dont think that there is one best race for this (or most other) build. It depends on what advantage you want over the other races
there also a nice helmet allow wearer immune to blind. You can make a party with 2 warlock multiclass and 2 others wearing those. But you can't cast spell or do ranged attack inside the darkness, that also make a pretty boring group.
The blind inmunity allows caster to cast inside and outside the fog. And warlocks have access to devil sight, so they don't need the items to. You can give them to non warlock classes to have a full darkness inmunity group. Cheers!
My question would be if this, what is the purpose of pumping into DEX over 10 when Heavy Armor ignores the AC Bonus for DEX? Couldn't those points be better put somewhere else? Or am I missing something here?
Iniciative. Then again, like mentioned. It's kinda pointless, because regardless of that, it's nearly imposible to hit you. You can place them somewhere else if you want. That's just a personal choice.
Nope. No it isn't. Regular action gives you 3 of those 45 attacks. Why would you trade that for a Cantrip and just one bonus attack? It would be cool with a multiclassed Warlock/ Eldritch Knight. Not on this one. We don't even have high int to be casting spells. At least not on this representation of an Eldritch Knight. And we also have Great Weapon Master to have a bonus attack.
@@rpjames8 Well he was pretty psyched about defense, and keeping blade ward up and still being able to attack in the same round is pretty nifty ability. Also if you got a pimped out eldritch blast for throwing enemies back and taking an attack. I think its one of the coolest parts of EK
The ring and helmet he highlights grant the wearer immunity to the blinded condition. This is effectively devil's sight, if not even better because the character will be immune to being blinded by any other means as well.

I understand, although I do have to say, that there are ways of being critical on feedback, without being rude. The apology is something I needed to do for people that watched that video, that had a mistake. One that now has been corrected. And it is timestamped, so that you do not have to go through it. As for the rest. I think that I do things fast enough not to have a 30-40 min video like Ive seen many others on my feed. I agree, there's room for improvement, I agree I make some mistakes, but I do the best I can, with the time I have. I do not live out of RU-vid. I work a full time shift, and editing takes hours as well. I wish that I had the best quality out there, like many other content creators that do live out of the platform, that have people they pay to write scripts, edit, and such, but I don't. Still, I do recognize that I need to improve many, many fronts, and I will always do so.
