Finally got the baler out in the straw and needless to say, the struggle bus arrived right on time as usual. #struggles #Wheatstraw #onemanband Merchandise: www.farmmerchbin.com/
Isn't that the truth, I can't get over how well they still grow.🤣🤣🤣 Thank you sir for being here, hope your corn is still doing well!! It looked great last time you filmed it!! 😉😉👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻🌽🌽😁😁
Thank you Me Bryce, I figured out what the main issue was, I had left a knife loose from when I redid the knotted fingers 🤦🏼♂ But still cant complain to bad! Thank you sir for always being here,I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻🌾🌾🌽🌽
I was regretting life choices that day Mr Rich!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that!! I wish we could have some, so dry 🥵🥵
Setting things up on the baler is an art. Experience is the best teacher. A friend had a new accumulator a few years ago. Had the grapple to pick up the bunch of bales on a loader on his 1066. He said it was really hard to see the grapple from the tractor to grab the bales, really should use a skid steer with it. Have you ever seen one of the old-fashioned accumulators from the '50s - '60s? You drug it along behind the baler, it collected about 10 - 12 bales, then you pulled a rope and the end gate opened and left the pile of bales. Had to pick them up by hand, but they were in bunches, so you didn't have to run all over the field and pick up one at a time. My neighbor down the road had one. Wish I could send you some of the rain we've been getting.
That experience will surely have to come with time Mr Pete, that I can see!! I have been studying and watching videos on the loader style. And yes I do believe that is correct, especially with me....probably do more damage than good not being g able to see well. I have seen one of those, I wish I could find one!! That's half the issue is the walking, it kills my knees. If they were all in one place at a time I could ride the trailer to the next pile 🤔😉👍🏻 I have considered the baskets, but you just don't see them around here much at all. I think my best bet is to have someone drive regardless, that way I dont have to move them twice at all. The stacking isn't bad, well im bit the best at that either 🤣🤣 Boy I wish you could Mr Pete, it is soooo dry here. Thank you sir for always being here, I really appreciate that my friend!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌾🌾
Its awful, my prayers for y'all Russ and all the ones that depend on the crops for putting food on your table!! Thank you sir for always being here, I really appreciate that!! Stay cool and prayers for better weather!! 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌽🌽💧💧⛈⛈
I can't complain one bit honestly, lots of corners to polish but learned alot !! Thank you my friend, I really appreciate you always being here!! 😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌾🌾
Awesome job Nelson and I remember that as a teenage, I can’t imagine doing that at your age but have to congratulate you on keeping the dream alive. Take care my friend and hope you have a blessed week.
Thank you Mr Tony!! It seems those memories are alot fonder back when we all were alot younger 🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the kind words and inspiration!! I question my choices almost daily, but the dreams somehow shine through the pain....at least one time😉 Once bitten twice shy! Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that!! I hope you do as well!! 😁😁🙏🏻
Good to see that you got all the straw baled and put away. One of the guys I help just bought a 268 with an accumulator, it's a neat setup. Wish I could send some rain your way. Thanks for the corn update.👍😁👨🌾🇺🇸🇺🇸🚜🛻🍻🍻🌾🌾🌽🌽
I would love to see that sometime if you get a chance!! I am cinna have to do something next year for sure!! I so wish you could too, it has done some damage this week to the corn I'm afraid 😢 Thank you sir for always being here,I really appreciate that!! 😁😁🌾🌾👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻🌽🌽🗽🗽🚜🚜🚜🚜💧💧💧
That it is, shame it can't happen in the fall with corn and beans 😂😂 Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌾🌾🌽🌽🗽🗽
I wish we had a square baler….😂😂😂 At least we wouldn’t need this expensive bale truck. Glen said they used to load 2000 square straw bales a day here during harvest. Sorry I missed those years. 😜 7:46 this corn here is looking amazing. Hopefully you get some rain.
Ahh, the bale truck may be a walk in the park compared to a moody square baler🤣🤣🤣 That is a lot of bales for sure!! My goodness, I would be Passed out!🫣🤣🤣 Thank you very much, its growing still not sure how but it is!! Thank you very much for the kind words!! Praying we get some this weekend!! Thank you both for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌾🌾🌽🌽🌽
Good to see that you survived the wheat harvest & baling of the straw there Mr. Nelson. I understand the "Outta Shape Thing" all too well. LOL Take care in that heat there.
Survived is a valid word for sure Mr Din 🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂🤣🤣 It didn't seem bad at all, until the pickup in the field situation came 🤣🤣 Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌾🌾
You definitely need a tractor driver or a youngster to pile. Straw can be a little funny with old balers. I think it's because it's so springy. We used to back the tension off some. It will still make a good solid bale but seemed to tie better and break less. I bet the one that broke on you in the barn went poof all over the place. I hope it rains for you. That corn is looking good, we don't want it to start looking like a pineapple. We need some combining corn video. 👍🌽🇺🇸🚜🙂
Im telling ya, Mr Will, I will have one of those two next season for sure! I am gonna try my best break 300 next season!! I do think I had the tension to tight for sure looking back....that's exactly what that one did in the loft!! I had left a knoyter knife a little loose and it had gotten worse after the first hay baling this season. I am praying for some rain, small chances next week but still not sure how much damage has been done yet. 😥 I Can't wait to get out there with ole Glenda. Yes sir that yall will have for sure!! Thank you sir for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁🌾🌾👌🏻👌🏻🌽🌽
I'm so glad I keep resisting the urge to buy a square baler. LOL. Great job on baling and picking bales up. I know it's a lot of work. I bet you wish you still had a round baler. Take a rest you deserve it.
It seems square balers are always a love hate relationship🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Mr Monty, it wasn't that bad just way out of shape!! I do wish Instill had a nice round baler, I may end up with one yet 😉 Thank you my friend, the wife and I did just that this weekend. Off to the coast we went!! Thank you sir for always being here, I really appreciate that!! Hope you have a great week!! 👍🏻👍🏻😁😁👌🏻👌🏻
Thank goodness it was straw instead of hay. Those hay bales seem to get heavier as the temperature rises. 177 bales is a good amount too. Hope y’all got some of the rain we got on Sunday. Lord blessed us with a couple good showers.
Im telling ya Carl, that was more than I wanted to deal with in those temps!! I can't complain to loud though, blessed to get some good straw out of the harvest!! We didn't get a drop at the farm😭 I don't think the middle field of corn will recover after all these upper 90's and still no rain. The lord has a plan and I don't question it...just praying for the ones that depend on their crops for putting food on the table of their families 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that!! Hopefully the lord sees fit to send some our way this week🙏🏻🙏🏻😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🌽🌽🗽🗽⛈⛈💧💧
Great video Nelson Jr. I remember stacking hay and straw in the barn back in the day! I hated every minute of it lol 😝 Looking back on my youth it was some of the best days of my life 💕🤩🙏
Thank you sir for the kind words , I remember playing up there back as a little boy!! Helped Daddy put some hay up there as a teenager, but blessed to be using it now!! The times of old, we cherish those more as the years pass by. Thank you sir for the kind words and always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Thank you very much, it went pretty well. One of these days our schedules will align for us too work square bales together!! That is a lifesaver to get stuff up there, I know he would! The original block and tackle is still up there for hoisting bakes like they used too!! Thank you very much for the kind words and always being here, I really appreciate that!! ❤❤😍🌽🌽🗽🗽💧💧😁😁👌🏻👌🏻
That it is Mr Robert, you know first hand how tuff that can be!! I will surely have to do something for next season!! Glad you were able to get though!! Thank you sir for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁
Finally getting some exercise 😅 Pretty sure I can still get it done, but not near as fast as I used to!! You need some of our heavy dews or some rain. Corn looks pretty good, just thirsty!! Thank you Nelson!
I needed that exercise for sure 🤣🤣🤣 It is a pace game now a days for sure...my buddy got a kick out of it 🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂🤣🤣 Boy what I would give for some of those Oregon heavy morning dews!! A small chance next week, but that one field is in trouble already Im afraid. Thank you Ed for the kind words and always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻🌾🌾🌽🌽⛈⛈
Well living in Greensboro it seems like you are just around the corner! Spent a career in the farm equipment industry and just enjoy watching it operate.
Great video, Nelson. I was wondering why you didn't mow your wheat stubble. It would have given you more straw. What I do is to harvest my oats high - basically just running the heads through the machine - then your combine doesn't have to work as hard. Then I mow the stubble so I can get it all. Just a thought, although I realize you may have had a good reason for leaving the stubble.
Well thank you Mr Charlie!! I was pleased to finally have a harvest behind me. I planted my wheat way early, and it was getting pretty well last time to harvest it. The weeds had really taken off in spots, and where quite high. Between the reel belt slipping, and the weeds I had to cut it quite high. I figure that if I hadn't it would have given me another 40+ bales. But it may be in my favor this time, getting ready to work the stubble in and chisel plow it. I think another year of wheat is in order. That way I didn't take so much off the field, and can work some back in. That sounded like I knew what Inwas doing huh...🤣🤣😂😂😂 Just a lucky guess this time! I do like your idea of the cutter and just thrashing the heads 🤔😉😉 I may have to give that a try!! Thank you my friend for allnyiur GREAT input and wisdom, that's what I really appreciate and need!! Also thank you for always being here!! Hope things are going well, your way sir!! We are WAY dry here 😓😓
170+ bales, not too bad! Last year was my biggest year for straw so far at 92. This year the wheat is so weedy I'm not sure if the straw will be worth baling or not. We'll see what the weather does this week, I've seen a few fields of wheat cut here already so I might try it. Don't have the combine reset for wheat yet either 🙄🙄 The straw looked good up there in the loft! We did get about an inch of rain last night, we were really needing it. I hope you get some rain soon, your corn has a really nice color for being so dry. Thanks for the update, Nelson! I hope you have a good week!
I was tickled to death Evan, couldn't believe it!! Had I been able to cut lower without the weeds and reel slippage I say I might could have gone 225+ Bug that's goals for next season!! Mine was just to the point of losing grain or baling weeds , so I understand!! Oh my throat combine setup, and swaps. I do think I will have another combine or all crop next season. Leave one for corn and one for grains!! Thank you sir, I was so excited to finally have it up there myself too 😊 Boy I wish we could get some of that rain. Been so long, Im not sure how much damage has been done ,😭😢 Thank you Evan, for always being here and the great support!! I really appreciate that and hope you have a great week ad well did!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻🌾🌾
@@Pennies_on_the_dollar The only thing about cutting lower and getting more straw is that the straw carries a lot of Potassium (potash) away from the field. So the gain from baling more straw might be offset by the increased nutrient loss from the soil. I can't remember how much is removed per ton of straw but it is enough that you will need to plan for it. Just one more thing to think about LOL
@evanaustin2636 Yes sir, you are spot on!! Seems there is a good balance beam there to get more but not to much!! I honestly think the straw will be one of my biggest $$ makers so hopefully the input from the loss, will offset nicely with a good bale number! Thank you so very much for all the great valuable advice my friend, I need every ounce I can get!! ,😁😁😁
Gosh I know Gordon, it has been tuff out there...no end in sight for sure!! Thanknl you my friend, they are doing great!! Hope you are staying cool and things are going well!! Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that !!
Instead of hay all I can see is handling lobster traps lol. Handle them about the same amount of times setting out at the beginning of the year and taking them up at the end
Seems as though they do favor the amount of effort to set them and retrieve🥵, getting to old I am Josh 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that!! I hope things are going well for ya!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻🛥🛥🛥🦑🦐
I remember in my 20s putting the 756 in low gear and tossing bales on to the trailer while it crept along.... Have you ever heard of a hay basket? That is probably what you need, but Im not sure how well they were marketed outside of the midwest. It was 88° for one day here thank the lord, a couple days in the 80s with high humidity was enough for me. Nice going anyhow Nelson 👏 stay hydrated too😉
I thought about trying that, but knowing my luck I would trip and fall, throw a hip out of socket and there I would be 🤣🤣🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂ I have seen those, Alan at trinity dairy uses them. Not much around here, its usually all accumulaters . I will have something before next season for sure!! Shhwww, I am not ready for summer and these temps Adam! But thank you sir for the kind words and always being here, I really appreciate that!! Thsnkbuiu again sir!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻
Iam not hear to preach but when I put square bails up by myself I used a hay rack let them pile up until they were ready to fall off then stop and stuck them it’s better then picking them off the ground great strides brother your making ❤😅
That's what my buddy said too, my blasted ocd wont let me 🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂🤣🤣 But something will give next season for sure, not picking them up like that without machine power,😂😂😂 Thank you Keith for the kind words and all your great advice! Also for always being here, I really appreciate that!! Hope things are well your way sir!! 😉😁😁
Thank you Dylan, I can't complain to loud!! I think the knife being loose was my biggest issue. But I am tempted to try some if that Tyrite plastic twine. Thank you sir for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌾🌾
At 75 I still like the farm life even being old fat and lazy by the time straw baling comes around that is a vacation the end is near the bales are 20 pounds lighter and with lights in the barn we can unload the last loads of the day in late evening
Sounds like you have it dialed in Mr Frank!! I am with you on the lighter bales too! I think I spoiled myself to never touching the hay when I bale 🤦🏼♂ I am glad to have it behind me, another segment of things learned, and knowing what to do better next season!! Thank you my friend for the great comment and all your support!! I really appreciate that my friend😁😁👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you Mr Jan!! I really appreciate the kind words!! No, you didn't miss that part. I was able to sell most of it Locally to a friend, so that worked out great!! Thank you my friend for always being here, I really appreciate that😁😁👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you Mr Tim, it all turned out.pretty good. I sold most of it already, not to an elevator just to a friend. Thank you for for always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👍👍👌👌
Its doable, no doubt...but getting rough by the year! Thank you my friend, and hope it went well for you!! Really appreciate you always being here! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have heard alot say that about the plastic for sure. A good friend just baled 3500+ straw with a 268 and went fine with plastic! I had left a knife loose from the finger swap last year 🤦🏼♂ But I think I will try that plastic anyway!! Thank you Tim for the great input and advice!! Looks like your season is going g pretty well!! Thank you sir as well for always being here!! 👍🏻👍🏻😁😁👌🏻👌🏻
@@roostercogburn6932 That seems to be the consensus. Seems one machine loves it and the next hates it. I have heard that many times so far, with these older NH balers 😁
I actually grew and cut the straw for a particular company. Blessings it went well, just storing it for them now! Thank you Mr Tom, for the great comment and always being here, I really appreciate that! Hope y'all got some rain, we still haven't here 😭 Thank you sir 👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻😁😁🌾🌾
Too old to do small squares? hell your just a young buck...Sure wish my shoulders would let be throw small squares, I can pile all day but tossing them on the wagon kills me..... Corns up next buddy... Thanks Nelson.
Well to old and out of shape, mainly in my mind🤣🤣 I sit to long at the daily pulling joysticks 🫣🫣🤣🤣 I can imagine that can be VERY rough on a shoulder!! I wouldn't be to bad if I could stack the baler, but my goodness picking them up🥺 Thank you Mr Brent for always being, here I really appreciate that!! Yes sir, be here before I know it!! 🤦🏼♂🤦🏼♂🌽🌽🌽
Shoulders, back, knees..... But I've bucked more than my share of small bales in my life!! '70s and '80s, before we got a round baler, then the big baler, we made 250k++ small bales. All went in the barns and most got hauled out to customers through the winter.. built the bale loader '85...
Mainly around here Mr John, it is used for landscaping purposes. There are several HUGE seeding companies that go through truck loads weekly. I have a small iron in that fire so all is well!! Most of the time fresh baled goes for 5-7 a bale , last years sometimes drops to 4 and out of the field it is 4 sometimes. Thank you very much sir for the great questions and always being here, I really appreciate that!! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻
