I just found your channel and am so excited! I am going to attempt this skirt this weekend. I’m a photographer and this is going to be a great addition to my client closet (I hope 😅)
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I’m planning on sewing my own prom dress (I’m 6.1 and can’t find anything that looks good and fits) and that skirt is exactly what I’m looking for !(doing this with black tulle)
Black tulle for me too! But i will only have the right half in a skirt so i will make it work a little differently. Cousins Queer Wedding will have us all serve looks.
This is so fun to watch and your teaching process is very approachable 🥰 I learned a lot and was also entertained, also your “manager,” is SO cute! I can’t wait to incorporate this concept into a design. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
Hahaha thank youuu! My manager says “Thaaaanks!” Lolol and the pleasure is mine! Thank you for your kind words and for appreciating my work! It means the world!! 🥰🥰🥰
I really wanna try the draping technique but I'm too afraid to cut it that way..what if I waste the fabric 😐 However, I just love this video and watched it like 100 times today 😅❤❤
Omg you’re so sweet Shreya! So sorry for the late response, haven’t been on here in a while. But yes, if you’re afraid to cut you can always start by marking the cut line with a chalk and then lay it flat so you can true it! And then cut away! ☺️☺️
Hi! You can do a double roll of about 1/8” ☺️ you can also leave it raw, just make sure you cut it evenly and seamlessly since english mesh doesn’t fray ☺️
How many yards of fabric did you use and what width? Can you please tell how much yardage of horsehair was necessary for hem? Did you stitch the top of the horsehair also to the dress, or just the bottom?? And how was the waistband finished?
Hi Abbie! For this skirt i used about. 8-10 yds.. it really depends on full you’d like it to be. As for the type of materials, tulle should work as well ☺️☺️
Love watching your video this is what I need to make for my sister's wedding. Thanks Can I use different lace? What size or inches of horsehair did you use?
Hi Edjoy! Yes, you may use lace fabric to make this skirt. As for the horsehair, i’m using 2” on this one ☺️ omg how’s your sister’s wedding dress going so far? I’m making one myself too, for a client hehe 🤓
Hi 🙋🏻♀️ I’m Greeshma Krishna, a freelance celebrity wardrobe stylist from India(struggler though😉).. i just wanna say i love your videos .. they are very genuine & fun to watch while being useful .. and good luck for more ❤️ #lotsoflovefromindia♥️
Thank youuu! It is definitely very possible to make in a non see through fabric! Depends what kind of look you’re going for, if you want something dressy maybe Tafetta, or Satin? Something not too thick or heavy so it’s not so bulky at the waist when you ruche/gather it ☺️
Hi Jessica!! Yes i do! Depending on the design im going for. Sometimes i do multiple layers without horsehair and then only add horsehair to the one outer layer ☺️
this was so helpful, thank you! it looked like 1 seam of each panel was on the selvage/straight grain, did you sew straight grain edges to bias edges, or straight to straight? does that affect the way it drapes?
Hello!! Yes! Great observation.. i drape it right on the bias so sew lines will be along the selvage (warp) on one and the weft on the other. As for the sewing, i try to sew the wefts together and then the warp. There will be one seam where you will have to sew a weft and warp together but the rest should be the aforementioned. Drape should be okay as long as you sew it carefully ☺️
Omg so so sorry for the late response.. life’s been nuts 😅.. How did your project go? I know how budget making expensive dresses can be such a task sometimes.. hehe
@@karla_roble So i dont (yet) have a Mannequin thingy (also expensive :() to drape the fabric onto. I'm getting one for christmas, so the project is on ice until then😔. I did Manage to finish the corset and the linen underskirt!!! And I've been doing smaller projects to actually learn how to use my machine (from the 70s, obvs)
Beautiful project & fun to watch! I've been trying to get a gown just right and you gave me the A-Ha! Thank you - woo hoo! Most importantly, I have a Cracy Crush on Ocean!!! Awww!!! (Papillon? Long-haired Chihuahua Papi mix? Half Cute & half Adorable? Yes!)
Last year I watched this video to make my swanlake dress as I didn't understand how to drape a skirt. This helped me so much. It has really helped me understand the construction of dresses. Thank you so much ❤
@@TulipxMariposa aww thank you!! 🥰 but omg how did your swan lake dress turn out? 🫢 genuinely curious!! And truly glad this video somewhat helped you at all. Appreciate you so much for taking your time to share such kind words! 🥰🥲
@@karla_roble it did. I studied costume at university. I just didn't understand construction. Having lockdown for majority of my uni years I had to rely on other sources, this video saved me. I shall post a video of my swan lake. It is my final major project. When I post it I will personally thank you. You will also see how your video helped the silhouette of my dress!
@@TulipxMariposa awww.. Yeah i was tutoring a fashion student during Covid too! It was just too much! Kudos to you for making it through that! Oof! That must’d been rough! And you’re doing so well so far! I truly love that for you! Its how this channel started too actually, trying to help spread some of the little knowledge i know out in to the world ☺️ and so are you now! 👏👏 Yay us! Haha
Hi! Yes any kind of fabric works (just nothing too heavy).. and you might need to modify the gather on the skirt a bit and reduce it, that way it doesn’t get too bulky around the waist! ☺️
Hello!! Here i’m using English Mesh. Just under 10yds of it. Umm i buy mine in downtown LA. Otherwise maybe you can try amazon? Sometimes they have it ☺️
