Yeah actually, I only recently got into watching these but actually see him reasoning through the stuff in real time is pretty interesting. Plus, this show is hilarious so I'm glad they can come up with new twists and things on occasion to keep everything feelin' fresh.
I'm actually commentating in BOTH of the GBVS clips that made it into the show. Surreal to hear my voice on this show, even if I'm getting domed by Toast for being terrible at Will it Kill.
Since I'm apparently that person now, time to explain some stuff about the two "Arcana Heart" clips featured here. Cause, yeah, stuff could use some explaining. So first up, that Kamui clip at 22:28. What happened in the clip was that Kamui used her CH (Critical Heart), basically the level 3 ultimate. She has a parry special (623X, A being anti-air, B being anti-ground, C being anti-low) which auto-counters if you do it successfully. If you have 3 meter and manage that parry, you have a somewhat tight window before the auto-counter happens to input 222A+B to do the CH counter for way more damage. To be clear, it's not an Instant Kill. But it is very high damage since it's hard to do so it's just tuned up as compensation. One thing to note is that CHs actually have two different versions. The regular version, and the EF (Extend Force) version which are done when you are in EF and are even stronger. The version of Kamui's CH in the clip is the EF version, you can see her enter a neutral EF to blow away Lieselotte. That itself is crazy because the two mechanics kind of make it impractical to pull off. EF is usually used to extend combos, as an RC, and the mode itself only lasts a couple seconds. Kamui's CH, being a parry, is defensive orientated since you have to react to what your opponent is doing. So the Lieselotte player going in on Kamui in that situation was quite the mistake in general. But even with all of that into account, while Lieselotte is a low health character (roughly 24000-ish health), that still wouldn't have killed normally. Even without guts scaling due to being at full health, Kamui's EF CH would only do about 20000. That's where the chosen Arcana comes in. It's hard to see but Kamui is paired with Sorwat, the Sin Arcana. One of Sin's passives is that when you are in EF, the less health you have, the more damage you do. The damage increase is kind of complicated (Ie, I don't completely understand the calculation) but it's based on the character's guts value at how much remaining health they have. Looking at the wiki, Kamui is tied for 3rd best guts in the game so it's a pretty decent increase. Add in how she's nearly dead and it turns into a big boost. If you look at the final damage value, what was supposed to do around 20000 damage instead did around 26600 damage, enough for the explosive kill. And this is of course not getting into the Arcana Health modifiers but honestly, I don't think that would have made any difference here. Now for the second clip at 37:19, there's not really much to explain. I already talked about the Time Arcana in the previous WIK and really, what it does here is simple enough. A time stop. So I guess I'll explain Dorothy's gimmick instead. As mentioned by a chat, yes, she plays poker. Her specials puts down different face cards and the versions (A, B, C, Super) changes what suit they are. When you put down 5 cards, depending on what your hand is, you get different attacks. In the clip, that was a 4-of-a-kind Ace. So the exact process is that she puts down j.214A, j.214B, and j.214C consecutively for 3 aces. A 214X (I forgot which version that is) to have a 4th card and finishes with j.214A+B for the final ace card. She also dashes into the opponent to push them along the attack trajectory for more damage which I find oddly hilarious. So yeah, hopefully this helped somebody better understand what happened in those clips.
In this Will it Kill, ye tarnished no longer have the guidance of grace... Are future episodes gonna keep this twist and/or have different twists? This was actually so fun, great show guys
This was too much work to do again any time soon, but maybe we'll try once a year or something like that. If we can think of another fun twist sooner than that, we might try it, but I imagine next month's show will be normal.
27:01 I saw the jump in fierce and knew that was going to be an infinite. For some reason in Double Dragon if you manage to land combo two fierce attacks back to back it destroys the hitstun scaling and you just get an infinite. Cause reasons.
Hello, I'm the guy who sent in the Bang clip. I am honored to receive the coveted "Damn, he's good." It's funny, I actually did send in another combo which ends the same way and doesn't kill, but it doesn't look as good and it was technically unoptimal so I made sure to put that in the notes. Also, Sengoku Basara is a sick game and its a shame it got no love outside of Japan. Dynasty Warriors gets all the notoriety but it pales in comparison. Let me tell you, there is a character whose gimmick is special cancels and he can special cancel his DEATH ANIMATION! Music is pretty great too.
Excellent format idea. Watching live was super fun. Also enjoyed the JoJo clips a lot. Also like that Sengoku Basara half-time clip, and it's given me an idea... My losses were only slightly higher than my wins, but I lost over a hundred thousand points. I became a rock thrower in the beginning and died.
I had the opposite strategy, I threw rock in the first half amd got destroyed, but I started playing more analytically in the second half and made a net total of 2k despite going 11-10.
@@GenericSoda I meant to say that I opened by throwing rock through the opening salvo of No's. Spent way, waaay too much on votes with strong chat support.
I love how this is the most split chat has been over a WiK, and the first time they get confident with Smash Kazuya they get Merc-ed. Started the game 0-5, went 13-8 by the end of the show and still ended in a net loss. Love this show.
Being featured in this show with that Ladiva clip makes me incredibly happy. The reactions are just the icing on the cake as well! That being said, I would've gone poor in this episode of WIK...
Agreed, I just wish the extra scaling didn't count on mid combo overhead attacks. Combos where you can end with Liz qcb+C instead of qcb+A generally sac a little damage for HKD, and using Ramon dp+BD into dp+D etc to super is much worse than going to dp+B etc into super.
I like the new twist, but i think it should stay a rare thing, like every other/ every third WIK. I feel like the taunting and laughing at the chat is part of what gives the show its character
Holy crap, that's me at 38:02! First Will It Kill I went to live and it went about as I expected. First half bodied me, but I got the runback during the second half. I'm like a God when it comes to the Kusoge, lmao. Anyhow, the moral of the story is that if you don't have Sajam's guidance, always go all in on rock at the end of the show. Throw away your fears and follow your instincts, that's how you win.
No joke, everything that happens in Yakuza games, no matter if its side content, or the main story, is the wildest shit. You gotta play Yakuza 0 at some point Sajam.
To be honest, this is actually the very first Will It Kill i've seen (just found out this series). I began going backwards and watching the previous entries, and i gotta say, it's a lot more enjoyable when you don't know the clips/results and you bet together with the chat. I don't really know why, but it's more entertaining.
I really enjoy the new layout. Having Sajam weigh in with his considerable knowledge of fighting game mechanics and able to drop commentary and reacting adds a whole new layer to one of the things I look most forward to at the end of each month. Even if I can never catch em live.
I have an excel sheet of ever WIK from this year so far, and at the end of the year I'll crunch the numbers to figure out just how crippling my gambling addiction is to the channel point economy
Man, I might've done worse than average, but I feel like seeing things from a different point of view is going to increase my winrate in the long run. This was incredibly illuminating, almost as if this entire channel has been about teaching people fighting games all along!
12-9 , loved how the host didn't know the results, making it much more interesting! On others you can read his tonal inflections and his body language, but here you have no idea, because HE has no idea!
Holy shit. Being one of the few subscribers of the streamer from the last clip saved me. I was going to vote the contrary to Sajam but I knew that the streamer had been playing Phantom Breaker almost every day for the last month and I couldn't bring myself to vote against them.
After like 20 of these I had started to try to get a read on Sajam more than the actual clip. Don't know how hard it is to get things set up this way, but I enjoy the twist!
I like the "blind Sajam" approach but I hope it doesn't remain the standard going forward. The clip editing is really nice and it's fun to be in the dark with Sajam, but he does such a good job running the show, especially when he knows the answer, that I feel like it's a shame to not let him do that. But again, the clip editing is great this time around and I DO hope that becomes the standard.
This format was amazing. I was also really happy to see my Streets of Fury EX clip getting into the show! Now I only need to actually get good in guessing WiK, I got destroyed.
Can't believe my scrambly ass Yuel combo made it on Will it Kill, absolutely crazy. For those wondering, yes the combo is suboptimal, and it *probably* would have killed if I had done one less auto combo hit after the EX rush, something I didn't realize when submitting it. This clip is a couple of months old and I was just starting out back then, and didn't really know what I was doing. But the commentary was just too good not to send it in. Glad I made so many people lose channel points tho.
I liked the edited pause and rewind but I will admit I missed the banter between you and chat as a result of you having seen the clip already fucking with chat is too funny
Yknow I like how in these "Will it Kill" clips on GBFV, nobody notices that the opponent is already dead based on how the music changes in a characters cinematic super.
To explain the Arcana Heart 3 clip, that level 3 super already does a lot of damage, and she's also using the Sin Arcana which makes you do more damage the lower your health is, plus Lieselotte has low health anyway
Damn what a good show. Had a bad start with 4 wrong guesses at the start and brought it back with a 15-7 record at the end. Definitely want another Sajam guesses with us again.
Oh my god can you please do more of these. I love this show to death as it is but somehow it’s even MORE fun when you don’t even know what’s going on haha
13:03 Man, I forgot how good "Our Blood Boils" is, its probably my favorite Sigma theme out of all of them...Well, 8 is up there too. Anyway, great show as always Sajam.
Really loved the shakeup in the formula for the show! Definitely wouldn't mind seeing more of that in the future. Went 14-7 going along with the video here, since I couldn't make it live. Best score I've managed so far!
I have never touched Granblue, but the wrestler dude’s super killing is one of the hypest things ever, ironic because not much is happening visually, but the tension is so well done. It’s like it was made for this show
My favorite thing about Ladiva's super was that the referee character was originally made for her super by Arcsys, and Cygames liked him so much they did up art for the referee.
The matrix is acting up again. I was literally thinking about the football interview in your thumbnail for the first time in friggen years Then the very... Next... Day... This video drops
Just watned to drop a comment and say that I thought it was actually way more fun having Jamjam blind to the clips as well, I really hope this is the future of Will It Kill
Woo! 14 wins, 7 losses! Woo This was super fun and having you join in the bets made it even better. Wouldn't mind more will it kills like this. Love this series either way tho.
