About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

Great guy! I remember seeing Grave Digger open for Rage like in 1998 (Rage had just released XIII and Grave Digger were touring in support of Knights of the Cross). I´d be hard pressed to say that Uwe was playing that same Les Paul. As the young n00b I was at that point, I was seriously f***ng impressed by how loud, clear and powerful those riffs sounded through that thing!

The beginning riff to balls to the wall is a staple in my warm up routine, I play it literally every time I pick up my guitar.

I once met Udo & Wolf outside the concert-place. I was 15 or 16. I instantly recognized Udo, and I made him sign my rubber shoe (forgive me, Udo). There was a tall tall guy standing next to him. I knew he was a part of the band, I just couldn't remember which part. He stepped away, as Udo was signing my shoe - he was used to this situation. Not more than 2 years passed, I started playing guitar more than drums, and I realized I ignored the guy that is now one of my biggest guitar-heroes; Wolf Hoffmann. Edit: I love Gravedigger!

Got to meet and hang out with these guys for a few days in the 80's with their original lead singer. I worked at Alpine valley resort with the music theater. I think they opened for Iron Maiden then. They were staying at the resort hotel and loved it so much they hung around for a few days. After work I would hang with them. I would sit in the bar and just chat with them. Do not think they drank though. I worked in the kitchen and a couple of them would just drop on in. Super nice guys. Sad part is I also worked there the day that Stevie Ray Vaughan crashed his helicopter into the ski hill. Was cool working at a resort with such a large music theater when I was young.

You guys are talking about something I was just explaining to someone the other day. Clipping an analogue preamp gives you a smooth compression and sounds great, it is actually how many analogue compressors work; exceeding the headroom of the available wattage. But the problem I always end up with is, by the time I get the preamp where I can get a good sound, I have to run an attenuator before the converter, because clipping a digital amp or converter sounds awful. The big problem is, so many of the boards I'm working with go straight from an analog amp to a digital converter, so I can't run the inputs as hot as I'd like. Typing this out just gave me an idea though... What if I run the digital outs to an analogue bus, then through an attenuator, then back to a digital converter for recording? It doesn't solve the fact that I'm not able to run the inputs how I want, but would it make the mix any better?

10:53 Cool conversation and some valid points, but I do not think that make any sense about digital that "puts away what you put it" ...are you recording to tape and listening or distributing your mix to tape??? as anyway if you mix in analog...your mix have to end in digital! ...yes Analog behaves different and if you pass zero may choke and distort, and yes, there are not variants of sound as when you push analog.... now what have to do that because you mix in analog you know will translate well?? a good mix have the same chances to translate well if was made in Digital or analog.....
