On Saturday, November 17, 2018, Dylan Knott, Derick Norton and I met up with Hans Hermann at his engineering firm Hansing Engineering in Saldanha. Hans is the proud owner of a 15" gauge live steam locomotive that he periodically steams and runs on a section of track placed around the workshop.
The Locomotive is loosely based on a Baltimore&Ohio 0-4-0 switcher and weighs nearly two tons with the tender. It also fitted with a South African Railways 3 Chime whistle.
The model was built for the former Tygervalley railway where it operated during the 1980s until the closure of the railway. It was sold to a private collector from which Hans purchased it approximately ten years ago.
