Monkey Ball 2's not the only one with unusual backdrops (though it's probably the king in that regard). World 6 of Banana Blitz takes place underground where everything glows in bright, neon colors. That includes the giant mushrooms. This is probably one of my favorite settings in the Monkey Ball series.
Speaking of strange and unique backdrops, the song is a remix of the secret 11th World of Touch & Roll: Studio One. The name says it all...
SEGA and Amusement Vision are the owners of these monkeys.

banana blitz remaster owner here. song is replaced with Monkey Boat Expert Course from Monkey Ball 2.

The music is one reason why I bought the HD version. They've replaced a few songs for some reason, annoying.

The music in hd sucks in my opinion. Apparently they couldn’t use the old music due to ‘liscencing issues’ so they had to make new ones. Hopefully someone makes a mod to replace the HD music with the old ones.

Banana Blitz' music was one of the absolute best things about the original. I understand the HD version ran in to licensing issues, but I would have preferred NEW music be made instead of the hodgepodge of messily-selected, ill-fitting tracks from across the series they went with to stamp onto various worlds

Fun fact: Messing around in the debug mode of SMB1, there is an unused cave backdrop which is obviously unused. Unfortunately, there is only the background model, and not any decorations or stage textures.

I actually played Touch and Roll before playing this. I never thought of how bad it was cause I was about 7 at the time. I remember this theme in BB being the same as World 11 in T&R: Studio One. It's also ironic that the SMB games Nagoshi touches are the ones we focus on the most. It makes sense though.

This part of the song has produced some confusion for me, because I hear that part as having the note progression G, F, E-flat, F, but everyone else seems to hear G, F, C, F. It's weird...

Mario Kart Wii also had a level with glowing mushrooms in a cave (although it wasn't underground) I guess that level type was very common on the Wii. (or it was just a huge coincidence)

At least Banana Blitz has better level design and challenge than any of the console ones afterward. (Can't really vouch for the iOS ones) 2 still has the ones I played beat though. As for the original, I might place it below Blitz due to its unforgiving nature.

I'm only saying pick up SMB2 over Deluxe since I hear that the control is not as good as it is on the Cube, but who am I to say having never used an Xbox or PS2 controller.

If you want graphics, I'd go with Monkey Ball Adventure. Though the very hard gameplay leaves you no time to admire the graphics, and the controls are really loose. I stopped playing Monkey Ball after Banana Blitz, cuz I couldn't stand the new controls and graphics, Really, a jump feature? And the tilt controls made it impossible to stand in one place. And really, a boss?!

They tried to do something new by adding jumping and bosses and don't forget that the monkeys actually have differences in Banana Blitz. I thought the jumping and monkey stats added a new layer of strategy to the levels. As for bosses, it doesn't bug me especially since they worked well for the most part. As for the tilt controls, it just takes getting used to though I do concede that it's hard to stay still. As for the style, it's extremely subjective. I think it fits the cartoony nature.

Most of the levels in Banana Blitz would be super easy to pass with regular controls. I'd be fine with the tilt controls if you had an option to do it with the Nunchuck. I just recently played Blitz again, and 50 party games are nice, but 75% of them are really stupid and bad. 15 or 20 party games and 150 or 200 levels would be better. I perfer Deluxe because it has better graphics (in my opinion), more gameplay, and better gameplay.

The Cube is better, but you will never beat Deluxe. Seriously, it has something like 450 levels! And don't forget the 12 Party Games! Over 200 levels from SMB, over 200 from SMB2, and just under 50 exclusive levels. Story Mode is easy, but Challenge Mode + PS2 controller = Too many rage quits.
