"They throw some Band-Maid in there." Yes! That's exactly the Band-Maid formula from the get go. I also think Kanami's solo in alone is one of the most iconic solos played by her. I may be pretty biased, having a special sentiment about this song.. I'm sure you know what I mean😁

"Alone" is a great place to go! Yeah, all the building blocks are there - even the straightforward sections are varied every time. The Maids' songs always seem to lend themselves to re-listening for that extra detail.

KANAMI was asked if any of the songs that she wrote before ALONE (that were rejected) would ever make it to an album or some recording and she adamantly said "NO!" She continued "They are not good enough" Also please note that she is still using the original AddicTone Modern series RH guitar before switching to PRS - because her hero is Carlos Santana!

One of my favourite Band Maid songs. Epic vocals, guitars, bass, drums and composition. Every time I listen to this song I have a renewed appreciation for how good it actually is and how far the band has come. Quality all round.

If you’re going for BAND-MAIKO, you have to check out “secret My lips” MV before that.

I was heavily into anime in the 90s which led me to listening to and buying a lot anime related J-Pop at that time. Even though I dropped off of watching/listening in the 2000s, when a RU-vid sidebar suggestion threw up Band-Maid "Play" I had no resistance to clicking on it and never thought anything wrong with the Maid costumes. Best click of my 30 plus year internet life. Keep up the interesting and informative song breakdowns. With this band the more you know the more there is to love.

The pre-chorus: that twangy guitar tone and how it combines with the bass. Also, making us wait - tension and release - it's so good.

If I was one of the professional composers writing for BAND-MAID and heard this, I would start looking for another band to write for. I'll post the lyrics below, but they're darker than most of their songs. Can't wait for BAND-MAIKO! One thing they did was go from that happy sounding major scale into a hard sustained minor chord with the "talking part" - it's just one of several unexpected things.

Thanks for another insightful analysis of another BM song. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not sure if one of the Maidiacs has mentioned this but Akane learned classical music growing up and played piano and trombone for the wind instrument club during her school years (middle and high school?) and picked up the drums at 18 which seems incredible because as good as she is I assumed she was a child prodigy on drums.

Nice, the song that Kanami loves the most. This is the song that paved the way for Band-Maid to compose, write, and showcase their own stuff. This is a very important song to them, without Alone, we may never have know Band-Maid the way they are now.

The title 'Alone', a recording studio as location with no other people present than themselves and Saiki's first scene where she pushes her mic stand away with full force and has never used one since. .... I'd say that fits the history of the song pretty well, doesn't it? 😎 Yes, it may be a bit more straight-forward, but I still really dig this song. The tempo, the pop-punk vibe, and as always, all the details of Misa and Akane, Mincho's amazing solo, and Saiki and Miku's voices. Especially Saiki stands out more for me here compared to other songs. :) Many of the things we love them for today were already there from the beginning. _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Simply put. Band Maid always puts ten times more into a song than they have to. Enough is never enough. And that is fantastic and why we love them. Just as important, writing skills man. They are incredible song sculptors. The best out there right now.

Please! If you do Band-Maiko..... do a two in one for full effect - FIRST Band-Maid 'Secret My Lips' THEN Band-Maiko 'Secret Maiko Lips'. Prepare to be amazed. Great reaction to Alone, still one of my fave BM tracks, it takes me back to my Pop-Punk days! Respect from the UK.

I think of it as subverting expectations like, "here it comes, oh wait no and no again, okay what was that my brain can't keep up." And somehow, at least in my opinion it always works, controlled chaos. Even on their more popish sounding songs you never know what you're going to get on the first listen.

I really enjoy the increased analysis! I sometimes forget how good this song is. Even back then they would do things to keep it interesting.

Have you looked into the lyrics for this Jules? Not sure you can get subtitles on this, but Miku's lyrics are pretty darn dark (the part where she really embodies "the gap" herself). The MV originally dropped on Valentine's Day in 2016 - and Miku to this day points this out as a very deliberate choice.

They write songs leaving you wanting more. But the catch is they will deliver more in the next song. The newer songs Sense, Hibana and Corallium keep up this pace delivering some of the best vocals I have heard from Saiki.

Contrary to popular belief Miku (real name Mika Noguchi) didn't go from working in a maid cafe to directly founding Band-Maid... ten years ago she sang in a vocal trio called Lil Cumin: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OfyJoj7tkws.html . Miku's credentials at Lil Cumin have influenced Band-Maid, not just as a lyricist... the band's backing vocal style and dual lead singing work is a result of Miku's previous experience. 😉

If you love anime? Ck out the music behind the magic ie: Tuyu, Azusa Todokoro, Daiko, Halca, Majiko! All amazing!!! Especially Rei Koromo, singer for Tuyu! The greatest in my opinion!

So, this was on Brand New Maid and was the only song they wrote on that album. Eight months later, Just Bring It comes out, predominately their own music. What I wonder is: how long had they had these songs ready to go, suppressed by their label(s). According to Wikipedia, Mincho wrote "YOLO" before Band-Maid. What I REALLY wonder is what it was like for Mincho to have this "Alone" solo in her pocket just waiting to let it go. IMO, their best song before "Alone" is "The Non-Fiction Days" and it doesn't have a solo that compares to this, nor does anything prior to "Alone". IMO, of course. I also wonder what their previous "overlords" did when all the Band-Maid composed music turned to gold. "Throw some Band-Maid in there". Gotcha a nice little catchphrase there that would be useful in many situations. Another one from another channel is "Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things".

Somebody the other day made an Avril Lavigne comparison and I can see why, but Band-Maid's pop-punk makes "Sk8tr Boi" sound like "Baby Shark." It's kinda sad that they probably felt the need to show themselves playing because they knew people were going to claim they're not. They literally show their hands more than their faces in several videos. It would be interesting if they had a more gender-neutral name and didn't appear at all in the MVs, because it would be fun to see the people who simply _cannot_ accept an all-female rock band find out only after saying "These guys are great!", too late to invent some b.s. excuse for not liking them.

No. You have said several things that while those statements not offensive and are complimentary are still assumptions and mostly wrong. The band had been together three years before their first original song Alone was greenlighted. So it was their first opportunity to record what they had already been doing. The drumming is just as any good band does when you need to change time signature flawlessly. Even today many songs are 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4. You play the same way throughout. Minus the fills. Here an example might suffice. In Led Zeppelin's Black Dog the song starts in 12/8. And the chorus is 3/4. This means John Bonham needs to go from 12 beats per measure to three beats per measure. If you divide those 12 beats into three groups of four you see you have to drop one last beat on the twelve after four runs of three to be squarely on the upcoming three beats. Bonham did it flawlessly and today Akane does the same. This is nothing new. It is, however, new to those who have only listened to four beat music all their lives. John Bonham and Akane are both better considered Jazz drummers like Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa as opposed to the stereotypical rock drummer. The music written by Band-Maid demands it by its very nature. And while snipets of it will remind you of your grandmother's rock and roll Band-Maidmusic is not. The band did not just get permission to do everything their way from the former label. They also controlled all production aspects by arranging and producing it as well. Band-Maid uses a lot of pre recorded tracks both on and off stage. But here is the thing: every single noise and sound off those tracks was recorded by a band member with Kanami putting it on the master and playback controlled by Kanami's pedal board. Akane controls the loopers for her drums. Last thing. Japanese is a monotone language. Syllables are not accented as they are in all non oriental languages. You do not emphasis any syllable over the others. ah-con-nay is the proper way to pronounce her name. The 20th century had the Beatles. The 21st has Band-Maid.
