I am excited to hear what you think of this song! If you have a song or group you would like me to check out, then just leave a comment! This community is pretty awesome with how everyone is sharing some of their favorite music for everyone to check out and enjoy!
Pretty sure that little triplet pattern you’re talking about at 2:50 is actually Henrik. (Although Aron might have doubled it?) Henrik throws these triplet figures in all over the place. Amazing. Also, at 9:49, check out what Aron is doing during Henrik’s crazy slap solo!
@@bobcieslinski Yep, good point. Those triplets are all Henrik all throughout the song, not a drum fill. It just pulsates so well with what Aaron is laying down. I loved the reaction but the audio quality wasn't the best in this video compared to the Thriller reaction video. I love how you can appreciate their musicianship! Keep up the good work. Oh, one more thing before anyone gets offended by it lol Henrik is a Swede not German so his name is not pronounced as Heinrich but Henrik (hen-rick)...the Swedish language even rolls the "r" but that's ok. Are you going to do a Turbo reaction video also?
Here's a video where Henrik demonstrates how he does the fast triplets on the bass. It's a combination of slap, hammer on, and pluck on different strings. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N8sub5L60O4.html
@@AdamDray Nice, yeah, I've seen that one. The slap technique reminds me of something that Victor Wooten does on "The Sinister Minister" -- first place I saw it. Doesn't use his double-thumb technique (referred to in that video, too), but still awesome.
Enjoyed your video. You don't waist our time with your intro, you jump right into the video. Good analysis and you go back to certain sections and break things down. I've watched this video a few times so watching your reaction at the beginning and certain sections...drum solo, bass solo etc. was priceless.
😃 For more of Jonah’s high notes and soft voice please watch Breakdown. Not upbeat funky but a beautiful song. Ps. Did you see Grace Kelly’s face in the left corner when Henrik did his solo?! 😂
Great reaction and comments again! Thanks, Bob! A couple suggestions for other DL songs: As stated by Daniel below: Hit me is a great one with a now-famous vocal scat by Jonah at the end that defies gravity. And also a long-time favorite of mine, and one of their earliest RU-vid videos, I believe, is their take on Baby by Justin Bieber. It is a chordal interpretation that is glorious ear candy from first bar to last. Thanks again, Bob!
Bob, I’ve played mostly tenor and alto, but some Bari too. Proudly playing poorly for almost 60 years! (I’m 69 and still enjoying it!) Almost all Conns, #1 tenor is a NWI from 1922, back up is a Pan Am from 1954. #1 Alto is a 6m from 1957 and back up is a NWII from 1927. All were previously played by my late father! Still play in community band (Tenor), Dixieland band (Tenor) and The Iowa Military Veterans Band (Alto).
I suggest you to check out "Snarky Puppy" and songs like "Lingus", "Shofukan" and "What about me?". They are amazing jazz fusion band with amazing musicians. You would love them for sure! Love your videos btw!
I totally enjoyed your comments. I've loved them for a while now. They are absolutely virtuosos in all their playing. I just hope that all of the players in this piece read all these comments and listen to yours. Thanks for sharing this one with us. I enjoyed rewatching this great song and performance of both bands. Amazing!
Might have already been commented on but I just noticed that when Henrik (bass) licked his thumb before the bass solo Aaron (drummer) did a similar gesture in sync. I thought that was cool
Bob, great reaction to another amazing Dirty Loops masterpiece. Just wanted to say...it's HEN(like a female chicken)-RIK Linder. Henrik. Phenomenal bass player...and he plays seemingly effortlessly. These guys are masters of pushing the "musical envelope" while also being appealing to those who can't see the musical talent. They ride the balance, and seem to enjoy the whole thing. They're amazing, and deserve to be all over the radio. Glad you discovered them!!
Excellent reaction my friend and I can see by the look on your face that you indeed have been loopified. There is one more video from the Turbo album that uses this set and features Cory and the Loops. It is called eponymously "Turbo" and is just a great wall of classic Tower of Power style funk. It's just instrumental but as a lover of real funk myself you just don't get this kind of full on, stank faced funk but once in a blue moon. Highly Recommended.
Bob, the effect in Henrik's solo is likely something like a digital whammy, where you can set an interval and apply via pedal. Glad you loved the song. This is an amazing combination of musicians.
Ayy, I see that SR500 hanging out in the background. I have it's big brother, the 505 5-string. It's a wonderful instrument. And one heck of an upgrade over the Peavey Milestone V I had for *years* before that. Not that my Milestone didn't serve me well, it's just not the same caliber of instrument, and I finally outgrew it.
Thr Ibanez is one of my favorites to play on. The fretboard feels so nice and the sound that comes out can be magical at times compared to other beefier basses. I’m hoping to get another Ibanez at some point. Thanks for watching and noticing.
Sometimes u miss cool parts of their videos when u look at camera. HENrik did a really funky thing and u missed it. Check out around 1:49 mark. It is cool. It drives me crazy when u stop video RIGHT before it gets to the good part. 😊 The BASS was made for HENrik to play it.
Sorry Suktan it does happen. Sometimes I get too excited about something and have to stop. I try to watch but that excitement is too much sometimes. I’ll check it out thanks. Henrik is a beast. He’s a hero of mine since I play bass.
Agreed! I enjoy Bob’s commentary, but I don’t understand how a reactor can pause every 15 seconds and comment on each little part rather than taking in the whole song in its entirety firs, or talks over the best parts of the song. I wish there were reactors out there who would take in the entire song once through without interruptions, and then go back and go thru it bit by bit with analysis. This isn’t a “reaction” - it’s a blind analysis.
Aron (the Drummer) is doing all the editing stuff in their vids... ...and no 1 had the idea to put them together, they did it. Dirty Loops is a music university project, they just jammed together for practice reasons and started re-harmonizing/re-calibrating Pop songs for fun. They had not thought of going public with their stuff but a swedish producer came across them and invited them to a swedish talent show (theynever appeared there)... the rest is history. It´s HENRIK not Heinrich - really??? He is not german lol
Partly true… three of the horn players were with Prince in Minneapolis and Wong is from MPLS. They play with Cory often (see Cory and the Wong Notes and Fearless Flyers with Delta Force). Grace on Bari and trumpet on left are semi-regular.
That's not a drum fill, that's Henrik. Aron did write those licks for Henrik, though. Henrick says that Aron writes many of Henrik's licks. Sometimes Henrick has to figure out how to do it. Aron, the video editor, has such a brilliant mind.
You should react to TURBO, it is another song from them in the same album as this one, it has an awesome sax part that i would love to see you react to. Cheers Sr. Cieslinski
You said that the man who put these two bands together was a genius, and considering they're all managed and produced by the one and only Quincy Jones, I'd say you're right! ;)
Strange! At first, I was thinking this band has a sort of Micheal Jackson vibe going on. Then it changes and adds and twists. Very interesting sounds combining so much in one piece.
For me, (frustrated wood chopper that I am) this amazing tune is only possible due to the Solid pocket that Aaron keeps. (With ample flare) There are plenty of spots where the whole thing could go horribly wrong and lose that pocket. How many bands change key at the end of a song? Maybe your next one should be "Work Shit Out", or "Next To You". I gotta say, it's been a long, long time since I got SO excited about a new band. Well, new to me.... having only taken this plunge in the last 6-8 weeks, and learning more about these cats, I have become a total 72 year old fanboy. They seem to really "get it"!!! It's about making and enjoying The Music! OK, OK, OK.... I'll get off my soapbox. P.S. The woodwinds are from Cory's touring band, the horns were with Prince. All of them under the Quincy Jones umbrella. Including Dirty Loops. P.P.S. Grace Kelly's stank face during the Bass solo is absolutely priceless!
Why no one react to the Michael "he he" sound like that came from the tenor sax player!! that man is amazing. He can do a lot of wear and funy sound whit the sax. 01:57
@@mauricionavarro8224 It doesn’t sound at all like a saxophone though, and the reason he has the sax up at that moment is probably because they all have an entry right after. Also, the second time, the horns are playing at the same time.
@@lottawiklund8606 is him. I saw another video doing sound like that whit the sax. And when the horns play and the he he part sound the tenor player is out of screan so You can said that is not him and in the first he he Hi move the fingers. Is him. The video that i toll You is in the Cory Wong RU-vid chanell.
Linder is one of the baddest players on the planet IMO (granted I'm a saxophone player haha). But if you dig further in their catalog you'll find he has great jazz chops as well. Look for a NAMM video where he's covering Giant Steps. Glad you have arrived at Dirty Loops (and their collabs) - life changing.
I subscribed to you because you are one of the best and most knowledgeable, "reactors" on the web. However, you are rather restricted in the accts you play (although they are some of my current favorites). Here are a few suggestions of acts I don't see you having used: 1) The Fearless Flyers (Cory Wong, Mark Lettieri, Joe Dash & Nate Smith); 2} Jacob Collier (the first artist to ever win a Grammy for each of his first 4 albums), 3) VoicePlay (theatrical, A Cappella group with the featured singer auditioning to be the 5th member); 4) The Swingles (mostly A Cappella group formed in 1973--- before any of the 7 current member were born--- a year after Ward Swingle shut down the original , Internationally popular, Grammy winning Swingle Singers ; 5) Lake Street Dive (hot, hot, hot mixed genre group (that changed guitarists in May, when the founder retired after 17 years--- last 3 albums are Platinum); 6} Mirrors is: Becca Stevens, Gisela João, Justin Stanton, Louis Cato & Michael League (1st album recorded in August, 2020 & released on November 12, 2021`(all 5 co-wrote a song with each of the others--- Stanton & League are still playing in Snarky Puppy.) I guess that's about enough--- for now...
Here’s 3 from electro deluxe, they out of France. The combine jazz, gospel, R and B, pop and rap. (For starters) they take big band and give it a contemporary sound.
Wow, I hate that your audio is so dark, there's very little high end on it. I'm sure you didn't intend it to be that way, but that's what it is. It's a great song though.
Aron and Henrik are like the same player with the way they play. It’s a guessing game with them. Sometimes it’s both sometimes it’s just one of them. But what they do is out of this world.
Constructive criticism: Not good video sound quality for the Dirty Loops video, very muted. The bass players name is pronounced: "hen", (like a chicken) plus the syllable "rik"(like in rick-sha), Hen-rik. Your pronunciation is something like it would be in German, Heinrich.
Nice vid! If you’re looking for innovative guitar playing - how about some solo bass - and what’s been described as the worlds greatest ever bass solo? Especially when it’s solo fretless bass - with constant tuning changes, double E-bow playing and harmonic chords? If that’s the case, then I’d love you to react to the most innovative bass player alive - Michael Manring - and his tune “The Enormous Room”. This version is from the Canadian Guitar Festival and he uses part of his tune “Adhan” as an intro, then some improv bass chords before starting the Enormous Room. Totally unique - and absolutely mind blowing! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YUYGChaQqj0.html
Haha for some reason when installed windows it glitched or something and now I have that and can’t get rid of it. I built the pc from scratch so I just can’t figure out why the software did that. Lol
Haaahahaha! I waited all through the video to see your face at the exact moment of the final key change. Not dissapointed at all ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZQJ0Ug8p5Yw.html
It was doubtless their manager and producer, Quincy Jones, himself; who made the choice to bring these people together. He's had the best ear for talent for 60 years.
Quincy Jones is just their manager though, as they produce everything themselves, with he help of Simon Petrén. I've heard one of them say, in an interview, that they don't send QJ anything at all, not even demos, until they're all done. Dirty Loops was formed back in 2008, when they were in music college together, and that was the drummer's idea. Also, long before QJ even knew they existed. And this particular collab album was Cory Wong's initiative.
