As a german i find it quite fascinating that almonst nobody knew Annenmaykantereit before this song. I've been listening to them for a long time, so i love the fact, that they're getting world wide attention from this cover! His voice is just so special, never heard something quite like it.

I’ve been listening to them ever since ‘Pocahontas’ and when the toms diner cover first went viral it just sounded so familiar and then I finally realised it was AMK :o -but yeah I’m honestly glad so many people know them after this because they truly deserve the hype🫢

I was so glad to stumble upon this, first as a sampled song on tiktok or instagram but then I found the whole thing. I absolutely love it and have watched as much as I could find of both bands since then. They're both great, even in German which I do not understand.

This song is how I discovered them but I soooo love their originals even more! Ausgehen is my favourite and has lifted me out of some pretty dark head space, its just so joyful you can't help but smile and dance to it. I can't understand German but the music and melody speak volumes and have had a huge visceral effect. I'm not the same person I was before I found them, its that immense.

So, I was listening to Milky Chance, "Tainted Love" It was one of my liked songs and I didn't go to my like list, I just clicked on it on RU-vid music and after the song ended, it randomly started playing other music. When it started playing this song and I heard Henning's voice, I had to look them up. It's an amazing voice, he gave me goosebumps. 👍

A German engineer played the song over and over again as he tried to squeeze the song into a smaller size without changing its sound too much. The rhythm helped the encoding of the file. As a singer, I can tell you how just how hard it is to push to get that grit on your voice. Once you do find it, it is incredibly difficult to control. Once you begin to control it, it is beyond imagination how difficult it is to interject it when you want, at the given amount you desire. May's voice is one in five hundred million at least. Tom Waits is in this leauge also.😊

Yes! I thought of Waits immediately. Powerful! The best sound coming from a man's voice I think I've ever heard...both Tom and May! REALLY terrific nutrition for the soul! The BEST! I'd type that a thousand times if we had time/space! I just discovered these fellas a couple wks ago by chance via someone else's vid. I've listened to this song probably 50 x's since! I can't get enough of the rhythm, perfectly choreographed mix of talent and high and uplifting vibration that makes my heart sing! Makes me want to be in Germany! I can't imagine how to make a voice do as you say, but I'm going to focus and think about it carefully. sadly I can't call myself a "singer". Only got music deep, deep, deep in all my cells from my father! Nothing eases and heals a soul like this kind of exquisite music! Thank you for your insights and mentioning Tom! Big thanks to teach too, of course! "It's ALWAYS NICE TO SEE YOU!" Much appreciation to Suzanne Vega, who likely never dreamed her song would be made into a magical swing out masterpiece by a bunch of guys in Germany! This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice) is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. The guys of AnnenMayKantereit are the older ones.. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well. One reason why I love Frederiks voice is their cover of Life On Mars (David Bowie): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-slIG7Aes7DM.html. And my favorite original song of Giant Rooks is Nightingales Of The Walled City: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4u5pPzAq0i0.html . It is a live performance because they haven't released it.

You´re right when you said it seems like another band. The first room is just the band from AnnenMayKantereit and in the second room you have the Giant Rooks at first. In the 3rd verse they then join all together. About AnnenMayKantereit, they actually started of as street musicians in Cologne / Germany in 2011 which also formed their often minimalistic style (with no acces to big instruments and no electricity you have to get creative). Most of their originals are in german and a blast to listen to. But they also did some amazing covers, like Roxanne (The Police), Cant get you out of my head (Kylie Minogue) and many others.

And to add, the guy with the crazy voice is Henning May. The band name for AnnenMayKantereit is the last names of the members. I don't know much about Giant Rooks, but they are also German. Check out the song "Sometimes I Like To Lie" by AnnenMayKantereit

I loved this cover more honestly. This made me fall in love with Henning May's voice even more (the one who sings the second part). The band - AnnenMayKantereit is named by the last name of each member of the band. I'd suggest you check out "Schlagschatten" or "Sieben Jahre" from them which are really great or you can check the recent album - 12 from them which is context of COVID but is pretty cool. And for second band - Giant Rooks are also German band but they sing in English despite their front man, Fred Rabe, has done a few German songs as well like "Alles wird Gut" with Felix Brummer of Kraftklub. And for them, I think I'd suggest "Watershed" which is pretty cool song in my honest opinion

@@bobcieslinski just a little context: Giant Rooks is as a band a few years younger than annenmaykantereit. Apparently they recorded this right after a concert where Giant Rooks supported amk.... because of covid Giant Rooks is only just blowing up more seriously and had a successful American Tour this year (they sing predominantly in English). Amk had to stop their first international tour because of covid in 2020, they are very popular across languages, especially in the East. In Germany Fred Rabe (Giant Rooks) and of course Henning May are considered the most talented rock singers 😄

i'm just on a roll to see how people react on the voice of the dude singing 2nd. i'm german and neither did i hear of them prior to this, nor is a voice like this typical for german vocalists. i guess no matter who you are or where you are from, we are all equally stunned when we hear the first tone. not that i forget the 1st singer, his performance over the entire song is quite impressive too but the 2nd guy just leaves a lasting impression because who would have expected that ?

For me personally - as a 55-years-old male German - AMK is the best German band right now. I love their German original songs (you already reacted to “Lass es kreisen”), because of the perfect interplay between lyrics, melody, musical execution, and of course Henning May's soulful voice. But I also love their English cover songs together with other talented young bands. Not only are AMK incredibly talented themselves, but they are also truly “musicians' musicians” with a palpable joy in making music and making music together with others. Although Henning's unique voice is - inevitably - the outstanding feature of these covers, it never overshadows or dominates the whole thing, but blends with the respective guest singer's voice and becomes an essential part of a well arranged, beautifully crafted whole - always unique, always beautiful, always enjoyable.

Hennings voice is truly unique, the band has done some amazing songs. You really should react to their cover of Roxanne they did with Milkychance. He also did a fab live cover of Valerie and a cover of Let it Be, all of which are live and fabulous!

You should also check out AMK's cover of Can't Get You Out of My Head. I discovered AMK a few months ago, through this cover, and have been hooked ever since. Their original German songs are great as well, and it's kind of fun since I have not practiced my German since High School hahahaha. Thanks for posting this, it was fun to see you have the exact same reaction to the singer's voice as I had. Truth be told, I still get goosebumps every time he comes in with his part of the song.

It is insane 2 me how so many pepple had no clue who they were until Tiktok. When this song went viral thru Tiktok. I'm stoked for them tho. They deserve the recognition! They are incredibly talented! Their voices mesh together in such a unique way. It's soul music for sure.

Hahahha I love it 😍 I am a huge Annenmaykantereit fan and have been for many years but I remember when I heard Hennings voice for the first time 😍 My heart got a lot more weight and volume, getting big and heavy in the same instant it became incredibly light and melted away like a huge waterfall... Can't really describe that feeling. When I went to their live concert I felt his voice in all my cells vibrating 🤩 it was crazy f***ing magical ✨

I had the same reaction as you upon first hearing the song! It was actually while watching the same video you watched during this video, and my thought was, "What? Who IS that?" All the vocals are great, and the musicians are top-notch as well. It is a fantastic collaboration. It is now on my regular playlist.

I love this song ever since I was a little girl and I know every word. This cover made my jaw drop multiple time. It just took my breath away it melted my heart. I don't think I could say anymore. I'd love when I come across music like this that just shocks me to the core. You don't always get good covers but I love when the band makes it a piece of their own. It was cool how they kept the same lyrics.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said this is such a fun song. It really is. They do so much and have such fun it almost has moments of whimsy. The higher pitched lead almost comes in to early in the second verse, then when the group goes silent for the rests until they come back in, the raspy voiced lead does an extra line, intentional or not I have no idea. What a great song and great reaction. First vid of yours I've ever seen and very well done.
