Welcome to another video!
This is a long video, but didn't feel right to split up, so hopefully some of you like a longer style video. This was a 2 day hunt, although the second day wasn't as long.
This was an amazing hunt, and one I had been looking forward to. I found so many different things like banded agates, carnelian nodules, a seam agate, some mystery agates, larger agates, smaller ones, to jaspers, chert and petrified wood!
Hopefully you enjoy, and thank you for watching!
Tot de volgende keer
(Until next time)

Thank you very much for your great comment! That nodule was super exciting to find, I always hope for at least 1 like that on that beach. Hi, I have a question, why agates? are they valuable? always see them when I go to the San Juan Islands
@DutchmansAgates
@DutchmansAgates Год назад
Some specific locations do produce valuable agates, one being Lake Superior, but even then the value is whatever someone's willing to pay for it. The ones that have value are also rare, and the best examples to be had. I like agates because there's so many shapes, colors, bands, no bands, transparency, varieties, crystal pockets, etc etc. They're all different and unique, so finding them is always exciting to me.

@DutchmansAgates
@DutchmansAgates 2 года назад
Yeah the ones with banding are definitely more rare, I did fine some though! If they're white with no banding it's chalcedony, if they do have banding it's an agate. 100% agree -- looks like a portion of a good sized flint nodule. I read through all the replies to make sure I didn't duplicate someone else's comment. Dark brown, reddish brown, slightly translucent on the edges, conchoidal fracture are all indications of flint. It's the same chemical composition -- silicon dioxide -- as agate, jasper, chert, chalcedony, quartz, etc. The clean fracture like that makes it superb for knapping into arrowheads, spear points, other stone tools. Nice find!
