Jose Rizal is the most famous national hero of the Philippines because he inspired Andres Bonifacio to awaken his sense of nationalism. Rizal was also the one who started to defy Spanish rule in a silent yet powerful way. He was also the one that sparked the sense of nationalism to his fellow countrymen also, through writing his famous novels Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, which talks about the wrong doings of the Spanish to the Filipinos during their colonization here in Philippines. So all in all Jose Rizal inspired many of his countrymen to stand up and fight the Spanish and if it weren't for him there wouldn't be a Filipino revolution or a KKK for that matter. He was the one that woke up his countrymen form their horrifying nightmare.

The mere fact that the monument stood there is a recognition of the Philippine Govverment. The national marker installed there was a proof. And the books as included in the teachings of Rizal's Life were already been used in our Educational Systems.

Jose Rizalbecame the Philippine national hero because he fought for freedom in a silent but powerful way. He expressed his love for the Philippinesthrough his novels, essays and articles rather than through the use of force or aggression.

Did the Americans decide Rizal should be the hero? I always did wondered how his works were able to inspire the Filipino people when 1. his books were written in Spanish; 2. who read and understood his books besides other illustrados? and 3. does he deserve to be the national bayani or was he just a selection of the colonializers of the time? I always wondered. Who made him the national hero?

Rizal is not my national hero Rizal is a reformist, not a revolutionist. His Noli Me tangere is base on the novel Count of Monte Cristo and the accent he bares when he is not in the philippines was from Germany (where he finished the novel) Rizal was interested with how people become very free from other country to speak out (in short, there are so many liberal minded people in times of his travel) Rizal did not seek for the independence of the country, but a change of how Spanish treated filipino. Rizal even volunteered to go to cuba to help spanish because the revolution happened there. And the most heart breaking fact about Rizal was of his denial to the plans of the katipunan, because he did not believe that katipuneros can succeed due to their low class (only few of them were educated, example of it was Emilio Jacinto whom if did not join the Katipunan will further take time for them to rose into a secret government). Rizal did not believe that change can happen from the low class because rizal was an illustrado, he did not felt or even experience Polo Y Servicio. Rizal was just a novelist of the propaganda and you know why propaganda movement was destroyed? Because of superiority. Marcelo H. Del Pilar had a fight with Graciano Lopez and after that was Rizal and Marcelo H. Del Pilar. Spanish did not put their hands on the propaganda because they already knew that the leaders are fighting against each other for superiority. Rizal took his medicine at Universidad Central de Madrid because he did not have a good grades in Santo Tomas due to the friars. Jose Rizal took a photo on himself on side view because is his jaw that is so round making him very obviously low class at other country. Rizal is not suppose to die? You know why? Because he was told by his comrades not to go back to the philippines because of his Novels that created chaos. Rizal was defeated in the election of the propaganda movement by Marcelo H. Del Pilar that is why he made another movement called La Liga Filipina (4 days after he made La Liga Filipina he was captured and thrown in Dapitan) if it is not because of Rizal's Ego, he can still be alive and live to see the world 1900s but it drove him insane just because he felt that he needs to be above than Marcelo. I hope you know more about him. I cannot speak everything about Rizal but one thing will always stay in my mind and that is "Filipinos have ignorance of their own history. Making venerations without understanding." So I will ask you, is this what you want as a national hero? I would prefer Andres Bonifacio.

It is a wrong notion to believed that Dr. Jose Rizal has inspired Philippine revolution, why? because long before him was already plenty of Filipinos who are already fighting the Spaniards in our country? Dr. J. Rizal was born lately and he was actually the one who are influenced by our forefathers to fight for our freedom? He was also born from family with silver spoon and comfortable life compared to Bonifacio from ordinary family but was able to organized a Philippine revolution despite his his difficult situation in life, his action lead completely to our independence.

i agree with what the historian told. no need to make it official that Rizal is our national hero. nakatapos akong mag-aral na si Rizal ang natutuhan kong pambansang bayani. at ngayon iyon din ang alam ng 2 anak ko dahil iyon din ang itinuro sa kanila ng kanilang mga guro. Based on what I've read from Rizal's life and achievement, he really deserved to declare and recognize as our national hero.

It is concerning…because it sets the record straight as to who we are as Filipinos. If you say Rizal is our National Hero it questions his commitment to Philippine emancipation against the clutches of Spanish colonialism. If one say it is Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, it puts to question his patriotism as he is viewed as a traitor to some and if another say it should be Andres Bonifacio, then it is fitting in deed.

In my opinion jose rizal deserves to be recognised as a national hero, and its not neccesary for a law to be passed to make him recognised as a national hero, its completely pointless. He should be recognised as a national hero regardless of that law. He was the core reason why phillipines is no longer a spanish controlled nation, and him being part malaysian should not make him any less worthy of being recognised as a national hero, he is a proud filipino who ultimately liberated his nation from the spanish invaders, hence why the phillipines is the independent nation that it is today.

The way Filipinos chose their National Hero, reflects their mentality towards patriotism. As the saying goes: action speaks louder than words, most of Filipinos now are just full of critics, opinions, talks towars one another & an empty threat against foreign & domestic enemies. Selecting Rizal over Bonifacio as a national hero was a big mistake. Rizal has done nothing except his writings and scientific discoveries. So why Rizal? because he's the most intelligent revolutionist of his time?? Well that's a very poor & stupid choice. Most countries around the globe, their national heroes were the ones leading a revolution and actually fought in the battlefield for several occasions until winning their freedom. Like Washington of USA, De Gaulle of France, Robert of Scotland and Vlad of Romania. Only in the Philippines were a doctor was selected as a national hero because of his few writings, PHD and scientific discoverers instead of someone who had been a revolutionary leader leading the fight. Bonifacio for me is the uncrowned National Hero and to be honest, I was never convinced of Rizal. No hard feelings my fellow countrymen, I was never impressed of Rizal. Bonifacio deserved more credits than He did & i believe it's not yet too late to change our faulty history.
