In this debate, it was supposed to be a debate on who is considered more of a hero between the two. In debates, there is no "sitting on the fence". You have to pick a side. The problem in this debate (and the act of debating in the Philippines) is this was very unprofessional. Jasmine's introduction already showcases the toxic nature of debate that is present in the Philippines; the belief that by raising your voice, you are putting up a brave façade. However, raising voices never signify confidence. Even the best debators can win an argument without raising their voices. It was very obvious that these students were simply capitalised on. The debate was structured as though it was meant for entertainment and not knowledge acquisition and academic discussion. They are committing the worst kind of fallacy in a debate; argumentum ad hominem - where they resort to attacking the individual because they don't actually have any factual knowledge or reference to support their counter-argument.

Both of them exhibited a tremendous nationalistic concern and choosing the better one is like comparing Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton in terms of intelligence and contributions. And sa students na nag sabing books “lang” nagawa ni Rizal, you should not underestimate literature as it was the key for revolution. I also remember aside from the reasoning na gusto nita mabas agad ito ng spanish high autorities, the publication was rough. If it was written in in our language, tagalog, it won't be published much or it can be even be discovered immediately by spanish easily OR EVEN STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. aside from that is financial problem and also tinulungan lang siya magpublish and his books being written in spanish will also result to more copies of publication. It was also mentioned that Rizal is more fluent in spanish than tagalog.

They were teaching spanish in school before tho. Not up for debate, only here to share some stuffs I've learned. Rizal wrote those novels to open the minds of the Filipinos, to make them realize what the spaniards were doing. Prolly those who weren't able to go to school needed translation, however, the elites/illustrados understood it. Thus, they started to make something. They were called mga propagandista, and they made their moves by writing. Bonifacio was inspired by it, but he might have thought that it wasn't enough, which is why he started kkk. They decided to fight with strength, power, and the people. Through this, even the so-called "indios" before were able to join the organization. They fought against the colonizers for our freedom. It was praiseworthy, their bravery and patriotism are topnotch, they did it for country even though they knew they might die in the battle. Filipinos should be truly grateful for them. Rizal instigated it, Bonifacio continued the legacy. Both are heroes. Periodt. Edit: Rizal is our national hero. This shouldn't be up for debate. There's a reason why the subject called Life and Works of Rizal is a prerequisite for graduation. Maybe people should try to internalize the whole thing.
I agree. I was kinda pissed when they said that most Filipinos didn't understand Spanish. I was like "uhmm..not really". The guy from the Rizal group even said it himself that since Philippines have been colonized for 333 years, Filipinos are no stranger to the language especially those who go to schools or are educated. Even Bonifacio learned to speak.

He also experienced discrimination at the university because the Spaniards were ofc prioritizing Spaniards, but he persevered and made it through the end. I was disappointed about the works of Jose Rizal being in the library. Rizal's work are significant in Philippine history because he is the one who enlighted people to fight against the Spaniards including Andres Bonifacio. This debate is just like a childish fight in where children just shout at each other angrily. Please before you post something make sure that it is good and worth it because of this I do not think that I will or will ever be able to let anyone go to this school. I am very disappointed. A very improper debate, I already saw this video way back I was in Senior High School, and now that I'm already a 1st year College taking up Education as a Major, I am now capable to say that the words being uttered in this debate were purely just noise and a little bit of information. People defending Bonifacio really said "Ano ba ang ginawa ni Rizal?" and the crowd still hypes the person, hahahaha and there's no correct management in the panel or the one who runs the debate.
I really like Bonifacio as a national hero of our country. We can compare it to the social stratification in our society and the inequality and social conflict.
