For a brief moment in time, a whole new genre of music arrived and disappeared just as quickly; as a Gen X kid growing up in the 70s I will always forever love 70s AM Gold....
My eyes literally watered up when this song started playing just thinking how bad life is right now in 2024 vs. life n the late 70's. What an incredible song this is. What fun memories!
Firefall's best and most meaningful son (and biggest hit) was *Just Remember I Love You*, also from the mid-70s. Without spoiling it, it has a few aspects that Amber will love, but even J will like it. 👂❤ By the way, those short violin notes that J mentioned are called "staccato" when played like that on any instrument. Those short duration, quick notes are staccato.
I love you Mexico? Who are you talking to? You in the terrible US?? Well I'm in paradise Puerto Vallarta!! Hate the US! Thank God Trump is going to win and maybe things will be better😢
The bass player, Mark Andes, was a founding member of Firefall, Jo Jo Gunne, Spirit and was also the bassist for Heart for 10 years. I met him at an airport one day and he is a very cool guy, he gave me a CD of his solo music and it is great! His Dad was a TV and Movie actor back in the 50s & 60s too.
Your experience with musical genres has grown so much since the start of the channel. Both of you just rattle off all the various musical genres that this one reminds you of. I am so impressed and enjoy the channel so much!
Among the groups you've yet to experience is Lighthouse. They're kind of the Canadian version of Chicago, with plenty of horns to make Amber happy. Start with either "One Fine Morning" or "Pretty Lady" and go from there.
@@richardkint6531 "Pretty Lady" was probably their best song. You can also add "Hats Off (To A Stranger)", "Little Kind Words", "Take It Slow", "1849". and "Sweet Lullabye."
Firefall is from Boulder, CO. The lead singer (Rick Roberts) spent time with The Flying Burrito Brothers. They are a very cool soft rock 70's band. A favorite of mine by them is "So Long" from their second album (Luna Sea) "You can say most anything you want to. I'll just say 'so long'."
Remember this from high school, graduated in'81, and groups like this just sadly disappeared. As someone else similar said about Pablo Cruise. If you look into who played in these groups you can see where they went. Same can be said for people who went solo in the 70's like Jim Capaldi and Ian Gomm. This music was so good then. You should also check out early Dan Fogelberg As The Raven Flies.
I don't know if I posted this the first time you did Firefall (and I'm too lazy to check), but my dad was their voice teacher in the late '70s. I remember the band members coming over to our house and singing in the living room with my dad correcting things. They gave me their first two albums.
Strange Way is one of the best haunting and powerful songs that I just love to hear on a rainy Sunday afternoon and it brings me back to my childhood. As to Firefall, I do have to give my preference to Just Remember I Love You
The name of this 1978 song is "Strange Way", not "Strange Ways," -- I haven't heard it in ages, so tyvm for the reaction. Firefall's biggest hit was 1976's "You Are The Woman," so be sure to give that terrific tune a listen too! 🙂
I am 62 & grew up listening to a wide range of genre's & I truly appreciate that you play such a broad range of music. Your musical choices bring back so many wonderful memories for me❤
Great Boulder CO group. Livin' Ain't Livin' It Doesn't Matter Cinderella Mexico Can't go wrong with any of them. Poco and The Flying Burrito Brothers would be a couple other country rock groups to revisit.
One of my favorite all time songs ever and from what I consider a very underrated group. This group was awesome and you should check out a few of their other hit songs. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
Thanks for playing this. My younger brother was Firefall's Lead Singer from 2014 to 2021. I saw a bunch of shows and met some cool musicians during this time.

These guys are so under-rated... Superb musically and vocals are amazing. Arrangements are 1st rate. So glad you back to them, continue to explore their excellent music.
They are still touring. Saw them in 2020 just before the Covid lockdowns & again in 2022. The began in Boulder, CO & hang out after their concerts for meet & greets, photos & autographs.
Firefall is a great country rock band from the 70's-80's. I had some of their albums. The band's biggest hit was "You Are The Woman". Other hits included "Just Remember I Love You", “Mexico", "Cinderella" "Headed For A Fall", "Staying With It" etc.
Jay n Amber this is why us 70dz brats love to brag about the best decade EVER 4 outstanding music we were there, thank you for going back in time .... take care God bless you all
Firefall has been one my favorite bands ever since this album came out and I bought it. Few more songs in the future to listen to are.. - It doesn’t Matter - Mexico - Goodbye, I love you - Cinderella - Something’s never change - Love that got away - So long I think you already listened to Just remember I love you and Strange way. Thanks
I went to a concert a couple years ago and they opened for two more well known classic bands. They blew everyone away. I felt bad for the headliner . Firewall is an awesome live band.
I love how any string instrument sounds make me immediately focus in on J because he always hones in on that sound and does his little hand bow motion. LOL. Love it.
Fall of '78, senior year of high school. So many different styles of music happening. Strange Way was huge on the radio and I heard it a lot even though the album rock station I mostly listened to didn't play it. I really enjoyed it then and it was great hearing again after so many years. I suggest Just Remember I Love You next.
F.Y.I. Benny Mardones - "Into the Night" (a one hit wonder) hit the top of the charts twice in the 80's once at the beginning and again at the end of the decade
I remember I had this song on 8 track. Playing Firefall over and over in my custom Van parked at Diamond Head look-out smoking a joint. I still remember it so well. I need a time machine. LOL... Much Mahalo! 🌴🌴🍍🚐💭
GenX here. Listen to all genres. These types of bands in the 70s were great to listen to around the campfires and cabin parties. We were the young hooligans that would hang out just outside of eyesight and listen to what the adults were listening to. We got to listen to a lot of good jams and then we would go through our older siblings' records and pick out the songs and jam the 45s while trying not to kill ourselves in basements and garages boxing each other. Still waiting to hear you react to Sevendust. A band you've never reacted to in the two years plus of this channel.
That bass is played by the blonde in the bottom corner - Mark Andes. He should be in the HoF as his resume includes being an original member of Canned Heat, Spirit, JoJo Gunne and Firefall. In 1982 thru 1992, he played bass for Heart.
This is a hidden gem from a really good band. You need to check out Cinderella also. Other bands along this same vein "county rock" to check out are Poco and The Henry Paul Band, just to name a couple. There are some other good ones you all have not touched on yet.
The bass player Mark Andes has quite a pedigree. He was in an early version of Canned Heat, then made 4 great alums with Spirit, He formed JoJo Gunn, named after a Chuck Berry song, with his brother Matt and Jay Ferguson, the lead singer from Spirit.. He ended up as the bass player in Heart during the height of their success.. You guys should check out Spirit and definitely the first JoJo Gunn album
I really like this Band I saw them in Detroit Lakes , MN back in the 90s. My Favorites are "Cinderella", "You are the Woman" (Similar to "You're the only woman" by Ambrosia but a different song), "Stayin with it", and "Just Remember I love You"
I haven't heard this song in a very, very long time! I forgot just how great it is! I love that little "Latin" sounding switch and the flute! It's cool 👍🏼
Colorado roots yall!! Caribou Ranch, and the Rocky Mountains 🙏🏻!!! Firefall's sound captured Colorado's mood in the moment, and still encapsulates Colorado heritage. 👊🏼👍🏻✌️
They do something called "Use Your Gift" where they mentor young musicians. Then they have a concert to raise money for it. They hold in Medford, OR. Another band that has donated their time to this is Pablo Cruise.
Arguably the best Colorado band ever. Saw them live five times, including a summer music festival at Denver's old Mile High Stadium, where they opened for Santana, Fleetwood Mac and the Beach Boys. How's that for a lineup?
14 year old me walking around the Aurora Mall (Auroa, Colorado) heard this song the first time playing out of Musicland (R.I.P.) .I had to bother the counter person to find out what that song was.
I often claim to know a lot about music from the 70s and 80s. A LOT. It's a self-proclamation haha! Honestly, I've never heard of these guys before. Great song and a great video once again!
