If you enjoyed the interview with Khammuan, the guy who fought the wild tiger then check out this video where I tell of my own tiger encounters in the past. There's also a "Tigers in Thailand" playlist with similar content. here's the video link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9k1rqJNXtXs.htmlsi=bGIA6Yn5xU81nQNp
Out of all the Thailand channels I watch you two are the only ones I would like to hang out with in real life, I just wish it was a bit longer (that's what she said!).
Good to see a couple of RU-vidrs together without the usual bigging each other up back slapping but that's why I'm a subscriber to you and Pat's channels. Just a couple of regular down to earth guys showing us things Thai that most expat Thai vloggers don't. Many thanks Karl.
Cutting from the drone...to the car....Walking. Setting up various shots. I don't think people understand how much editing and work is involved. 😊 Luckily you have a great team ...Sound man.... Editor.... Director....Make up.... Location finder.... Location finder's Mum.....Cook.....Dish washer.....Drone guy.....Drone guy's mom.....Drone Guy's funny friend. It all makes to great viewing. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it. The elephants are usually only active on the trails at nights but not always. Their presence does add a bit of excitement to the trails. Cheers
Wow! What a story about the tiger attack!! 😳😳 Thx for sharing. Ok, so what was with the dood running with the backpack?? 😂😂🤷🏼♂️ Thx for the video, love these. This is what I plan on doing a lot of when I retire there.👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼🇹🇭 Kelly.
It's worth going back to my video from 3 years ago called "man Fights Tiger at Khao Yao. In it I tell the stories of my own wild tiger encounters. Yeah, he was a strnage guy, Jason I think he said his name was. Cheers
@@karlsthailand I definitely will do. I am currently running through your library, looking forward to going on many of the adventures you have, and no doubt still will. 👍🏼🙏🏼🇹🇭 Keep it up! Crazy backpackers! No surprise. 😅😄
Thanks so much for that compliment. Another adventure will be up this weekend. I enjoyed making the video with Pat. It might not be his thing but he's so level headed. Cheers
Cheers Chris. That was from one of my earliest videos called something like "Man Fights Tiger". It's on My Tiger playlist on this channel. Well worth a look as I tell some stories from the past of my own.
Thanks for the video Karl. Entertaining as always. I am visiting Thailand in 2 weeks and your videos have inspired me to climb Wong Prachan, Phu Pradeung and Wat Phu Tok. Looking forward to the challenge but maybe not the heat....
Always good to here that my content inspires people. Check before you got to Phu Kradueng as I belive it closes for the Rainy Season at the end of April so you may have to do that one first, it's a great experience but IMO much better mid-week as it can get crowded at weekends. In the hot Season Wong Prachan is all but deserted by midday so start early if you can. Cheers
Not really on this occasion but the jungle is a much different place in the Rainy Season...there are leeches and biting flies everwhere, some very slippery ground and boggy areas and the undergrowth gets a lot higher making getting lost pretty easy. I always take a gps and it's got me out of some tight spots in the past. If you want to see just how different this trail can be in the Rainy Season check out the "I'm a RU-vidr" video I did with Nick Dean. Same trail, another planet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NsZN-cCR_H0.htmlsi=CWUBCfTDCOqGthDG
Nice job Karl - till going where others cannot - yet! Could not believe it was 3 years since you were doing that trail with Nick D - vast difference in the wet - seems like a few months ago. I'll be back in a few weeks - Hua Hin beckons...
It's a decent trail, that one Karl. Although out of his natural environment, Pat handled it with no drama at all and seemed to enjoy it. Down by the pond, was that Pat having a mushroom flashback to his long hair days?
It is a decent trail Jimmy, probably my favourite there. Pat was cool as a cucumber but in fairness it’s like a stroll in the English countryside this time of year. Watch my previous “I’m a RU-vidr Get me out of here” with Nick Dean from 3 years ago. Same trail but another world in the Rainy Season. Watch Pat’s Bangkok Detective video and all will become clear about the long hair. Cheers
Very interesting vid... Pat has a lot of stamina, i've padded round with him on a couple of tours and he's as fast at the end of 8 hours as he was at the start! Considering he eats very little i don't know where he gets all the energy from........
@@BangkokPat I'm sure the first couple were.... i was knackered at the end, you're used to the heat of Thailand, i love it but it does knock it out of me a bit! But you're right, got to keep moving to visit all the places on the itinerary...... lol
Cheers Charles. Did you see the collaboration I did with Pat a couple of months ago where I showed him the old travellers area? In all honesty any insight I had into Bangkok ended about 20 years ago. I spend so little time there now and things have moved on so Pat’s knowledge of the modern Bangkok will far exceed mine. When it comes to rural or natural Thailand these days I’m your man. Cheers
I guess all that fresh Bangkok air made Pat prepared for the trek... Jokes aside walking around Bangkok Pat style is no joke either. But next time get some light trekking shorts or pants, it'll be a a lot more enjoyable out there!
It's has disappeared from Khao Yai in the past 25 yrs but now with benefit from wildlife corridor linking Khao Yai NP and Thap Lan NP above the highway 304, tiger starts to migrate back in Khao yai some couple of years ago.
@@kittenastrophy5951 thanks for the update. Travelled the 304 in 2022 and was impressed with what they had done to connect the parks. I hope that the Tigers can survive and thrive between the parks. Stayed overnight close to Wang Nam Khiao in a place backing on to Thap Lan NP. Through translation I asked the owner about Tigers in the area. He hadn’t seen Tigers but was aware from locals that there were large black cats in the forest. I hope this is true.
The tiger photo-trapped at Khao Yai was 2004 I believe. My two tiger sightings there were both in 1992 and I was also present with a friend who saw one in 1993 but I just missed it. I’m sure you’ll have seen my video already where I relate my own sightings and show the pictures? It was 3 years I posted the video
WoW that tiger i thought my jack russell was bad enough, i have picked up many Thais in london imagine if i said im going to charge you more i would have got a punch on the nose, no big deal, i love the Thai people and Thailand, thank you for a great video, regards to you and Pat. 👍
Yes. As policies go it's a bit out of place in the modern world even if many are happy to accept it. I can appreciate both sides of the argument but vist the NP's often so it does get under my skin sometimes. Cheers
First I thought this is Pat's channel. I've met Uncle Cherd the park ranger twice. First in 1993 at Klong E-thao station at that time he has scored only one tiger and the second time just there on the Nong Phak Chee Tower circa 2007. The last meeting he has already scored the second tiger.
I used to know Cherd/Churt pretty well in the early 90’s and he was with me when I saw and photographed a wild tiger for the first time at Klong E-Tao in 1992. There are some pictures I took of him in at least one of the videos in my ‘Tigers in Thailand’ playlist. I also tell of my own encounters and show the pictures. The last time I met him was 2011 and there are a couple of pictures of him on my recent ‘Lyme Disease’ video . The last time I asked he was retired and living within the NP. Thanks for your own memories of Khao Yai and Cherdchai.
I loved it. brains and brawn conquer the thai jungle. but who was that in the last minutes, shaggy hair on the run? fugitive! can't think of any better place to hide than in the jungle
Very great video Karl video with you and Bangkok Pat I really like both YT channels I discovery this channel recently. This video bring very good memories for me. I did a 3 days jungle tour at Khao Yai National Park in half June 2014 with my cousin who lived in Thailand but sadly died in Thailand 4 years ago. But it’s has an amazing trip and we both enjoy it a lot. First day we saw the hundreds of thousands bats coming out of the cave late afternoon amazing sight. Second day was the real jungle tour with the same trail you did with Pat. But when we go we had some heavy rain showers and thunder and there where leeches everywhere. I got quite a few on my body which I found a little scary. But it was an amazing adventure the beautiful nature and the sound of the jungle I loved it. Our Thai tour guide was a very nice guy also and show a lot of things. The last day we went for another trip not so difficult and gladly no leeches hehe. Glad I found ur channel Karl! Will cath up with ur other videos, Christian
I used to be a guide doing those 3 day trips helping a Thai guy back in the early 90's so I can relate to your experience. Sorry to hear about your cousin. Leeches don't bother me that much but they can leave marks that last for months and I don't think it's possible to ever like them, I can usually put them out of my mind though and deal with them when I reach m,y destination. Cheers
@@karlsthailand Cool you have a been a guide also their. My cousin introduce me to Thailand came their first time in 2001 and since than I fall in love with Thailand.
Nice video Karl it was worth the 400thb ✌️ good to see Pat wearing one of your wigs! Just joking! 😀 you guys work well together, no waiting for the 2 old Englishman to catch up! Swadee Pee Mai Thai Khulp 🙏
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it. I'm used to paying 400 Baht every time I go there but it was good to see Pat challenge their preconceptions. Happy Buddhist New Year to you too.
Did the lady "lose face" when Pat produced his Thai ID? It was nice to hear the tiger attack story again. You wouldn't want to be strangled by that parasitic tree.
I don't think so Mark, IMO she should have just asked to see Pat's Thai ID and that would have been the end of it. She was probably new and just panicked when things didn't go they way she expected. They were both very civil. Cheers
Impressive, fiddling the entry tariffs, driving & droneing, organising skits dressing up as tigers to horrify and unnerve the hell out lone hikers (near the pond) hijacking cars, boys will be boys up in the forest 😂
I did tell Pat to look before you grab anything, mainly because of the fact that some jungle plants have spikes and thorns. Yeah, I've heard those centipede bits are nasty. Cheers
Yes, over 30 years ago I was in the back of a pickup truck driving in front of a herd of wild elephants at Khao Yai. One of them got angry when I used my flash gun and the herd accelerated towards us. luckily the driver was quick to react but the got very close before we picked up enough speed to leave them behind. I'll never forget that I could see the elephant get angry in it's eyes and they just instantly started a synchronised charge. very clever ands sometimes scary animals
@@PaulWalliswriterHe certainly did look suss. And how did he manage to match Pat's clothing exactly? If I didn't know better, I'd suspect that was Pat wearing a wig. 🤣
Hes Thai, I'm not. I speak Thai, he doesnt. And what has he got in his backpack, books and pens ? So poor guy was fighting with a tiger for 20 minutes while his fellow rangers were keepin well out of the way 😉
Yes, I didn't miss the irony but didn't want to confuse the situation anymore than necessary for the lady at the booth. Pat had some camera equipment in his bag. That interview caught me by surprise, I was going to try to ask him if he would tell the story on camera after he had got the chance to know me (As it turned out we had already met a few years before with me having no idea who he was). As it turns out he offered to tell me the story immediately after I had shown him my own tiger pictures from Khao Yai which could have possibly been the same tiger. I never had time to really think of any extra questions to ask him about the incident and decided to just let him tell me just as much as he was happy to do. He did mention to me off camera that for a while the other rangers didn't want to shoot for fear of hitting him by mistake but I think it was quite a while before others noticed what was happening. At that time of day most rangers would be out on patrol or doing repairs to trails and bridges etc. elsewhere in the NP.
