Great video! Love all the ideas on how to reduce filament waste. Like what Alex Swavely mentioned, I would definitely pay attention to the licenses of any model, especially if people attend to sell them. BTW, nice coffee mug at the end, I might know that guy and his awesome doggie 😆

Denise, you need to jump on this. You have 3500 subs but 29000 views. This is a hot topic. I have looked for it in the past and the solutions are limited and the nerds get nerdy. They reduce it with a small percentage. You have made leaps and bounds. I will subscribe now and finish the video.

The trick with the flush objects is to think of single use objects and tools. I need things to mix and pour resin so I make tweezers, stir sticks, cups, etc. I print the cardboard spool adapters with poop also. Printing bambus filament transfer thing one piece at a time until I get all the parts helps. I also print handles for files and other tools.

It's a bit nit-picky, but bambu and orc create a prime tower, not a purge tower. the prime tower is there to prime the nozzle for printing. It's the same thing as that line it draws at the start of printing towards the front of the plate. With color changes it needs to do this at various heights so that's why it's a tower. The printer purges the filament in the poop basket, into infill and objects as you demonstrated. That's why you need the prime tower and those 2 checkboxes don't eliminate it. Also the prime tower isn't counted into the flushed filament counter, but it's effectively still poop.
@stldenise
@stldenise 5 месяцев назад
Good point, it's still "purging" but for a different reason. I've got a beta version of Bambu Slicer for the A1 and they added a column for the Tower. Now it's clear that the prime tower has no influence on the amount of purge.
@rajgill7576
@rajgill7576 5 месяцев назад
One thing I just got into that hurts to see is a 0.2mm nozzle. The extruder volume that has to purge after the filament cut happens is the same, but the nozzle is smaller. You have really big, time consuming poops 😅 But that print quality and tiny tiny, detail is oh so worth it.
@Sulfuron41
@Sulfuron41 5 месяцев назад
Google "Ideas on boosting speed for multi-color printing with AMS" and follow the instructions on the Bambu forum topic that comes up. I too almost exclusively print with a 0.2mm nozzle, and DzzD's g-code has saved me hours per print. Huuuuuge improvement.

Its embarrassing to admit i was not aware u could use an object as a print tower.. or infill an object. Thanks for this video. Generally i dont do a lot of 2 color printing, and when i do, i make every effort to make the second color the last color, ie at the top of the print. If it must be on the side, meaning a color change on every layer, i try to make it a separate print and glue/bolt it on. I usually design my own prints and they are more utilitarian than characters (lizards, bears, ducks, etc). Those colorful prints would be very difficult to minimize color changes. Thanks for such an informative video.

So much great information, such a great way to present it, and done in 1/3rd the time of a typical vlogger... Good job! I am an impatient person when it comes to watching technical videos. So many content producers spend as much or more energy on "fluff" than they do on meaningful content. I just hung up on a pod cast where they had 40 minutes of content, and 5 minutes in they were still talking about how great the two podcasters are and how they came this far... Good info I'm sure, if I wanted their biography. I really like that pod caster for his written works, but I think it's because I can just skip reading his bio each time. But you value my time, and dwell on each subject long enough to fully cover it, without making me feel like you get paid to make your videos longer. That was 8 minutes of valuable well paced information. AND while you were talking, your video also had a stream of information flowing in parallel, so for example when you covered picking a good model to print the waste into, we had already seen a preview example object with a mysterious stripe pattern and two examples of the slug failing before you told us to pick a model unlikely to fail. You dramatically reduced how much you needed to say on the subject, so by the time you said it I already had the info, I just needed the facts summarized and tied together. While that could have been accidental, it caused the density and effectiveness of the information provided to increase by around 100%. The hands down best coverage for Bambu poop reduction after watching so many of them. I'm also critical of accuracy, and people stating facts that are just wrong. No one is 100% right all the time, but sticking to facts, and leaving superstition and bias out was super refreshing. My favorite 3d vloggers before today ALWAYS say something for me to argue with them over. When I say something that is not backed by reliable facts, I wrap it in opinion or rumor to keep it in proper context. Nothing worse than a favorite blogger saying something so cringeworthy you want to unsubscribe. Are you a glass fuser too?

7:22 Thanks for the shoutout! My acceptable range of waste is 1-20g, I usually multiply between .65 and .80 depending on filament type and brand. Sometimes it’s super difficult to get the number down when printing with 4 colors unless you want a tonne of flushed objects. I’ve found that Dragons, Eggs and my Fidget bolts sell best as purged objects 😎✌️and honestly I prefer how they look 😍 Great video btw I’ll definitely forward people on my socials to this as you did such a great job of explaining 😎✌️

The only problem I've found so far is when purging from black it needs a little extra purge so I manually set black purges higher. And also using bambu silver pla basic, that stuff takes so long to clean out. I've tried.6 and .8 but it still shows flakes of silver throughout the other colors. I've had to also set silver purge manually much higher. So it really depends on what color/brand/ makeup of the filament used.

Just got our Bambu for Chrsitmas. Changing my flushing volumes definitely affected the totals. When I changed the "flush into objects infill" there was no change. But when I clicked on Flush into this object... I must have done something wrong. I was using one filament color and one support. It used the color for the initial part of the print. But when it changed to the support it did the rest of the print in support. Still learning. Really glad I found your page. But the initial changes helped a lot. Subscribing to find out more.

Thanks good video. I never used the "purge into object" feature on my X and P1S. Suggestions: I use shorts without spools (fooling my AMS when loading) and call all similar filament types as same color and make silicone spool inserts including my mod for Sunlu and like spools (looks like original just larger) and print all 3 parts by object. Can use your idea for a useful purge object. The purchase (or addiction) for filament never ends. What a great hobby/extra $$ maker.

@Sulfuron41

Be careful flushing into infill. If your model is a lighter in color and you are purging a darker color into its infill, it WILL show through your walls and create varying bands of color throughout the model. So use flush into infill wisely or print excessive amounts of walls (more than 4 at least) to help hide the color differences. Just speaking from experience.

One advice, don't use purge to infill when you have black and white or any extreme colors where the lighter one is used more. You can see the darker infill through the lighter color. I guess one way is to thicken the walls too? 🤷‍♂️

A useful purge item for me might be a stacking parts tray, which is shallow and wide. I'd love it if the printer had the option to purge to an object that has a lower height than the primary print(s) as long as there's room to do it without the head bumping into the taller item while purging to the lower one (It does this for the purge tower, doesn't it?)

Wonderful review BTW... Honestly I love the AMS, because it will change to another roll when the current run out,.and I don't understand why Bambu Lab don't sell an AMS that's NOT multi material but the same material, I mean if you run a farm it will be HUGE improvement in productivity, I do use an Airbrush to paint my models, so changing colors is not "that" useful to me and in my case I can get much better result without poop... So there you go.

There's some cool toys you can also purge with, like those not-lego modular bricks, I don't want to be rude if I'm mistaking but shold be The Printer Professor's stuff, or those cool Hextraction tiles by Zach Friedman which is a must have of a table game if one prints! To me the very valuable advice has been to print them in batches. It's not obvious until it is. The Gcode trick might be a bit too hacky for my knowledges but the graphic explained it perfectly and it's a cool thought! I already modify the purge volumes but that might be groundbreaking if someone's new to Bambu Studio.

For your slug adhesion issue - try Elmer's Disappearing Purple Glue Stick, it comes in Jumbo size format for easy application - and works a charm for most plastics. (and is water washable if you don't like it, not to mention rather cheap) - extremely useful for those corners that just won't stay down, or small surface to bed ratios for larger objects - like those slugs. Simply apply a nice thin layer anywhere you need it -while the bed is cooled - and let it dry for about 5 minutes. Then preheat and print as needed. Typically can get a good dozen or more prints out of it before it stops working, results vary if you touch it with oily fingers of course, or high dust areas.

So I’m not sure if I just didn’t understand or I missed it. But how do you use the poop to print other models?

I think I’m going to go with the ”drive myself nuts” alternative and just make a propper multi material slicer that doesn’t waste plastic. The printer doesn’t need to poop, it’s just lazy implementation. The printer currently cuts when the color swaps happens and then purges out all the filament inside. Instead it should cut and change before you actually have to change color, keep printing until it’s near the transition, start printing (still inside the model) on areas which are not visible, such as inner walls, infill, support etc). Non-planar printing could also help in some situations, with shallow lines of color or larger block. I’ll be back in 15 years when I’ve checked in to an asylum.

When using darker colors behind inner walls, you can often still see them as dark spots behind lighter outer walls. I don't think it's necessarily lazy, as there will be no software solution that will work perfectly in all cases (smaller parts / layers). I guess it would be interesting to see switching a bit before you need a specific color if it's realistic to do it on certain color swaps.

@@KiemPlant do you mean when you have translucent brigt filaments or do you mean when there are shallow angles so that there are gaps the outer walls? Cause I intent to solve the second part with non-planar slicing, so that there are no ugly steps :) Calling them lazy was more of a joke, no one making the words best printer could be considered lazy :p But at the same time I feel like all the slicers are just copies of copies all having the same fundemental flaw. For example, no slicer exists which can run the other most wall at 0.04mm and the inner walls at some multiple of that, like 0.24mm so that you get very nice outer layer but don’t waste time on the inner layers. But since all slicers are built on top of each other fundemental changes like that is impossible, hence ”lazy”

I've been thinking that there should be an option to use infill as a purge tower, and if it needs to purge more than it uses for the infill. The rest should just to go to at purge tower.

Already exists - Other Tab -> Flush Into Objects Infill. Also she mentioned this in the video that you didn't pay attention to LOL

Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like they're suggesting to purge to infill, but purge all thats required to infil - eg, do 90% infil for a layer rather if its required to purge it all, instead of doing 10% purged to infil and purging the rest to poop. A variable infill for purging would be great.

I wonder why Not to continue to print a little bit more with the filament left in the nozzle after cutting the Filament and changing to new. It could print a little while longer until the Chance of mixing color is to high and then it could flush, but much less or do i get it wrong? Shure there is some calibration needed but as an extra option?....

Great video! I was wondering what brand and color of filament you used for the red in those cute little red birds?

It's Printed Solid's Jessie PLA silk. Don't know the official name yet, I got a prototype roll at ERRF. This is the elixir recipe they're working on! Hopefully they'll have it stocked soon, I'm in love with this color.

Can you recommend a good model that can be used for the tower that is free?

Hope somebody can help A1 with AMS lite. Using PLA+ as main filament and support trees except for the top .02 of the tree I am using Bambu support filament. Thsi filament works greate. Issue is when print the PLA+ the printer will stop purge and use the same filament. Understand this whe switching to the support filament but why does it do this when no reason to swtich filaments . Your videos are great and help Thanks T

i'm confused how the retraction move wasn't a thing from the jump I was working on a design for an ams prior to seeing the coprint new setup that was basically the same thing i was doing but also has the software ready.. And that was one of the things I thought of just retract a bit then chop less so theres less to purge
