Yeah, honestly the only other thing you can say to similar effect is "Even if you bank here, this money is FDIC insured anyway. You won't lose a thing. The bank will. No heroes then, alright?"
@XDNA POISON It's not entirely original, I got it from Breaking Bad originally but the fact is banks are required to carry FDIC insurance. In the episode "Peek-A-Boo" when Jesse is basically holding those two tweakers up for holding Skinny Pete up, the tweaker says he can pay Jesse back another way, they got this safe in their backyard and "BECAUSE it's FDIC insured, the customers of the bank will be unaffected" -- the only one affected will be the bank. This is after Jesse exclaims "Wait, that's my bank!" when he realizes the ATM was stolen from his own bank. If it's a line in Payday I am not sure, but it's true in concept though.
@@voteZDLR It's from everything lmao. *"On the floor, asshole. The money's insured so it's not worth dyin' for"* --Point Break. *"We're not here for your money, we're here for the bank's money---you're money is insured by the federal government"* --Heat.
But she wasn't being a hero. And that "test" was kind of pointless---why ask a question you already know the answer to? And what other part of the robbery relied on trusting an employee? lmao still cool.
@@Vote_By_Mail Yeah and someone else had commented it is also in the game Payday 2 but it appears the comment is no longer there? Anyway yeah you hear people say that in movies, shows, games, etc all the time but it's only true up to a certain amount. I mean for all intents and purposes it will cover most of the damage from a typical bank robbery but I don't know the exact amount where it is cut off at, probably several hundred thousand if not a few million dollars but don't quote me on that.
@@KianoUyMOOP Work ethic... meanwhile, big banks and insurance companies are cashing in on civilians who have little to pay. Bank robbers are quite literally penny pinchers compared to these guys.
Coolest scene in the whole movie is when she trips the alarm with her foot then looks up to see the demon staring down at her. Such a well done shot. So ominous.
You should see Heat (1995), an action thrilled with Al Pacino and Robert de Niro. GTA V and Christopher Nolan's Batman The Dark Knight were inspired by this movie.
The moment the robber said "where's everybody's Blackberry's?", that was when i realized this incredible movie was already a decade old. My god, it still holds up! Easily the best bank robbery movie since Heat
I like how in this movie the characters are so in depth. The one bank robber actually tries to be nice and calm the teller down so she can open the vault. Its a nice change from the constant violent angry robbers you usually see in movies
Because they knew angry makes people more scared and nervous if you calm there stat down the process goes by faster this scene is the most overlooked scene in movie history because most people say the way they did things wasn't right but that whole scene was spot on a huge success in robbery history from the way they did everything
Oddly enough these types of robberies are exceptionally rare. This is what is known as a "takeover-style robbery." Most bank robberies are note jobs, as it's far easier to get away with (though normally the perpetrator only gets away with the cash in the pans and nothing from the vault). A takeover-style robbery on average yields higher "profit" but the risk exponentially goes up when you are seen walking in with a whole crew armed to the teeth.
@@eginteractive Yep. Especially these days, you'd be better off jacking ATMs then going after a bank, bank = fed involvement and there are a lot more ways to get caught now. Back when this movie takes place, when security cameras went to onsite tapes and everything wasn't in digital, you might, MIGHT have had a chance. Nowadays, naw. The cops will catch you, just a matter of time. And banks these days don't carry enough cash to make it worthwhile
*FUN FACT* While filming of the first robbery, Ben Affleck would sometimes direct while in full costume, including the skull mask. Rebecca Hall was unable to keep a straight face, and found it difficult to take direction from him when he was in costume.
@@johndododoe1411 Like 99.9% of the time run away with the bank's money? When I was managing a Video store in the mid 00's as a teen, the Wachovia across the parking lot was hit at least 3-4 times over the course of two years. None of the tellers did shit till the robbers left because it would be foolish to risk their lives over 8-12$ an hour, a job they would still have when the robbers left.
@@wazemo2764 I don’t know tbh, the stress and panic of the situation could cause u to make small mistakes. That’s why he told her to breathe and calm down
yeah that guy was dumb like why would you yell at someone especially when they're about to put the last digit in, like they're already under high pressure, yelling at them will almost certainly make them screw up If I was him I would have said "I'll give you a few minutes to unlock it" then that lets them unlock it properly under high pressure
Still bugs me how they made it that she saw his tattoo. There's no way she could've seen that neck tattoo from where she was at. The hoodie would've completely blocked it from her view.
You can thank me later for this if you liked this movie you will like this movie slightly better not only is it more real and less hollywood antics but based on a true story. The movie is called what doesn't kill you
Coolest part in this movie was when they were switching cars after a later robbery and they all looked up to see a cop right there. Cop smartly pretended to not see.
Every Movie that is Centered around Bank Robbing need 3 things 1. Dope, cool, and/or Funny Uniforms 2. Badass Action scenes with great sound Exp. Heat the last heist 3. No quick cuts
Just recently acquired one of the skull masks from this scene. It’s a vintage Easter Unlimited product, the mask itself is named Steve Skull. The one I have in particular is either from the late 90’s or early 2000’s. They still produce the mask but it has a new look not like the old ones seen in the movie and like the one I own. Very menacing mask.
@@drepop803 Agreed. It's a bit overrated refreshing to see unpainted. Plus, around the web there's a new "trend" of men painting their toes now so yeah the ladies can stick with unpainted in this case.
@@MichaelOnRockyTop Bleach ruins forensic evidence like hair, blood, or skin cells. They’re already wearing a fuck ton of gear to prevent leaving evidence that would connect them with the crime, but better safe than sorry. Phones got bleached which also prevented calling police, camera data got purged by tossing the memory cards in the microwave, and everything that they touched got bleached for safe measure. These guys were being very thorough.
@@josh2676 hey I my self wouldn't like to hurt anyone but if I get a chance to rob a bank and someone wants to be a hero. they are gonna be dead but I would never rob a bank or anything
@@jameswallace5235 Yes, but the FDIC insurance is paid in large part by premiums paid by the bank. The bank passes on those premiums to customers in the form of lower interest on deposits and in fees for services. Since there are so many banks paying and robberies are rare you don't "notice' it, but in theory if bank robberies were more common you'd see increased fees and lower interest on deposits.
This, Heat, Den of Thieves and Hell or High Water are the big 4 that can never be fucked with. After re-watching a couple of times, Hell or High Water is my absolute favorite now. If you haven’t seen it, watch it....twice
It's a great movie but imo it's probably not a movie I'd watch again. Heat for sure is a movie I've watched several times. Also you should check out "son of a gun" by Ewan McGregor and Brenton thwaites. Excellent movie.
This scene , the bank hiest scene in heat , and the joker bank hiest in the dark night are in a class of their own , just flawless and seemingly effertless .
I think this was Ben’s directorial debut too. Everyone did a fantastic job with this movie, and they nailed the white trash Irish-American vibe they were going for with the crew.
Man, the DVDs copy I had been dusting in my shelf for almost 10 years now, just got the chance to watched this last night, didn't realize it was of the most superb movie of Ben Affleck, a great director too he is on this one.
Favorite Line from this movie: I need your help. I can't tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it later, and we're gonna hurt some people. Coughlin: Whose car are we gonna take?
I’ve seen a lot of bank robbery movies/tv shows and these guys are by far the quickest cleanest smartest and most accurate robbers I’ve seen the way they take control of the room so quickly and destroy all and any evidence via people’s phones the cameras and bleaching all surfaces they’ve been around it’s honestly astonishing but the thing that gave them away was their own skills as one guy worked for the telecommunications business which they found his file on and it was only time til they found his friends but luckily Doug made it out in the end
You should watch the bank robbery scene from “Heat.” Michael Mann had “consultants” on hand for proper weapons handling/training down to how a robbery like that would actually go down. It’s very much suspected that the “Hollywood Shootout” suspects based their final robbery on that scene.
@@JohnK-ph3vw I’ve seen Heat it’s one of my favourite films ever made especially that ending damn so much respect and emotion however I still feel that The Town that first bank robbery (from a criminal intelligence side not a cinematic) scene was amazing they bust in take complete control of the room the first guy jumps over the counter stopping a silent alarm being tripped the other heads downstairs gets rid of CCTV cameras by putting them in a microwave they operate really quickly and efficiently and lastly they bleach the whole place out eliminating DNA traces also another thing they wear masks that cover their whole head which means that hair samples can fall on the ground as FBI forensic teams can ID you via hair samples both movies are amazing I love both I can’t pick a favourite because their fucking incredible pieces of story telling and in depth emotion especially Heat though
@@bartholomewprice3221 just another show of intelligence by these guys finding the dye packs although one thing I noticed when one of them puts the CCTV tapes into the microwave to destroy them the FBI still had camera footage of the robbery
I just watched another video and it was about the Ben Affleck character and he’s actually a very nice guy . He tells you all about his crimes and he don’t hold back about any of it he’s completely honest about all of everything .
The robbers are completely right in that nobody should EVER risk their lives over a bank's money. It is sickening that the bank would even teach anyone otherwise.
I’ve worked for a bank for over a decade and no bank teaches that….the money is insured by the FDIC, the bank doesn’t care if it’s stolen, because they get reimbursed. They’d be more fearful of a lawsuit by the employee’s family or paying out life insurance premiums……the more you know….
They don't they literally teach people to do as they are told. Even armed security is trained to avoid a gun fight unless necessary. Armed security is more a deterrent. Plus banks have insurance on their money so aren't that concerned with being robbed. Especially considering the FBI catches like 80% of bank robbers
There are hidden silent alarm buttons EVERYWHERE. Zero chance someone doesn't hit one as soon as they hit the door. Safe combinations are really hard to put in even during normal circumstances, that was realistic. There is no on site hard drive for cameras, everything is stored remotely and monitored by a security services constantly.
Watch old FBI files episodes, they actually did rob banks like this back in the 80's and 90's. Even in 2009 when this was made you'd be surveilled the whole time, this is a throw back movie
*bank I'm at gets hit by these guys* "I need everybody's Blackberries!" *me, cracking up* "PFFFTPWAHAHAA, BRO, ARE YOU FOR REAL? WHO IN 2020 EVEN--" *eats gun stock and drops* *10 hours later, waking up in hospital* "worth it"
They did a good job filming this. Everything moving fast and your heart pounding with adrenaline. Other than the robber being a "gentleman." Everything is pretty close to reality.
He wasn't being a gentleman. He wanted the lock open as quickly as possible. She was messing up cause she was stressed so he calmed her down so she would open it correctly.
@@schm147 He calmed her down, because he felt bad that they were traumatizing her and he didn't tell his buddies that she was the one who pushed the button that alerted the cops. He had a thing for her the whole time. I've been in that kind of situation during an actual robbery, and the robbers don't care about your well being.
He wasn't being a gentleman. He was being smart. These guys are professionals. He knew if she didn't calm down, she'd never open the safe combo. She was a wreck. Also, just because he's a bank robber doesn't mean he's there to treat her like a piece id shit for no reason. Again, he's a professional And yeah, he didn't want a dead body after the alarm was hit. Because then it's murder. And everyone has to die. Why leave a witness. It's not because he had a thing for her. I'm sure you've been robbed plenty of times by professionals at your bank 😂
@G E T R E K T 905 Are you really gonna use Hitler having a family and a dog to justify your statement to shoot "pigs"? Those "pigs" aren't genocidal tyrannt, they're civilians like me and you who work to support themselves and their family.
This happened to me in 2010! Lady was coaxed to cash my checks by a neighbor of mine, with forged signatures. I lost over 2,000 dollars. They got away with causing me severe suffering from not being able to make my rent and payoff bills. And no they didn't learn a lesson from it.
@@nervousneighbour only reason she was taken hostage was because she did that. Seriously it was an idiotic move they were almost out the door and she pulled that crap.
@@notshloakrblx Ok, evidently, I'll have to explain my comment. What I was trying to illustrate in a roundabout way was that the masks the robbers are wearing are making it very difficult to understand what they are saying. Still, to this day, rewatching this video, it still isn't clear to me what was said at that timestamp. I never thought I would have to spell this out.
