If you did just a little bit of actual research you'd find that the Banks cover gives you cooler operating temperatures with the ram air fins as well as a better oil flow because of the internal pattern.
I have an 05 ram 3500 with the AAM11.5, I run 315-70_17 tires and the spare. Will the banks differential cover clear the spare tire upon compression during towing or off-roading?. I bought the AFE differential cover, they sent the wrong part they give me one for a 10.5 differential. I can't say as I have ever seen a 10.5 differential in a 3500 ram, I may be wrong so be it. But from the measurements this was not going to work on my truck anyhow so I got a refund. I like AFE is design as well with a magnetic drain and a magnetic dipstick and a large sight glass, it also has internal and external cooling fins. I subscribe to your tech channel as well so you have my email. I just got back on RU-vid I got kicked off a year prior to the last election and you can probably figure out why 🤔. I'm asking because towing 20,000 plus pounds regularly and sometimes we hit the old bump stops I don't want to be a catastrophe looking for a place to happen. Thanks for listening to me b**** about it 🤑
I installed a Mag-Hytec cover and they said the torque was 30 ft lbs also, one bolt broke. I think it was more a weak bolt than the wrong torque value.
Good video, sure is easier than doing it with the truck sitting in the driveway...which is what I did today! Couple things...the instructions that came with mine say to torque to 22 lbs. not 30. Also, they tell you to use the teflon tape on the plugs (even though the site glass has a nice "O" ring). Came out good though, looks great and I'm glad I did it just for the oil change...dark brown, not sure when the previous owner changed the fluid last (if at all)!
Nice cover but is it really necessary.. Diffs do not have a high failure rate and usually not related to the cover. High loading on the bearings and gears are the usually the problem. The internal grooves and channels tend to create more drag and friction but the outside fins do help in cooling.
The Banks website says this is not available for the 2019 RAM 3500. My truck is not a DRW nor is it the max tow package which I think has the new 12” diff. Isn’t my rear diff the same 11.5” 14 bolt that is on the 2018? Will this new cover fit my truck?
We use the recommended gear oil for the application per your owner’s manual. I hate to call out a specific oil weight here if someone watches and they don’t have a AAM differential in their truck.
I don't know on the Toyota. I know they have several application they plan on releasing soon but as I understand their focus is mainly on the diesel platforms currently.
@@thoroughbreddiesel ha had I been patient and just waited for my packed to get here I'd probably have seen that. thanks for letting me know tho and putting out this video!
Very hesitant to buy one. If it "breaks away", then what? Can you buy the air fins separately? Also, doesnt hold more fluid. Waste of $$$ unless buyers actually believe this would be considered "working on my truck"! While you're at it, install a light bar for all your adventures. 🤣
