Headed down to Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park for my annual visit, only this time I thought I would make a full review video. But this was quickly thwarted by the overzealous management, who decided that I wasn't allowed to take a camera inside. Despite the 1000's of others.

If that ever happened to me, I would've demanded to see the events manager and complain to him or her about the security refusing to let me in with my Go-Pro, even if I had to shout and scream in the security guard's face. I'm a fairground enthusiast and I love doing onride fairground videos, and I don't appreciate my fairground hobby being interfered; I take no prisoners, so they dare not say no to me because I would accuse them of treating me unfairly.... But to be honest, I don't see what's the whole point of employing security guards at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland if they're going to act like that, I would've got rid of them, it's not like that PWR Events are legally required to employ them.....

Astonishing how it's pretty much one rule for one, one rule for another when it comes to Hyde Park. We tried to gain permission to film there and by the time they responded we had a couple days to book tickets and train tickets. Made it utterly pointless going. Just so overpriced now sadly, and these rules are just ridiculous.

I have had a very similar experience with the staff at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, it really has put me back off going to the place and I was a season pass holder for years. Security seem to be getting worse at these places.

Even though I’m a southerner and live part of my time in London I’ve never been to winter wonderland as definitely never intend to! I had a similar issue with Wembley security. My ten year old had a throw away camera when he started taking photo's. One of the security goons came up to us and said camera's and the taking of photos not allowed.

I'd have told that security guard that it's my camera and I'll do whatever I want with it and I will not have people telling me what I can and can't do with my own stuff if that ever happened to me! lol😂 Unless there's signs saying it or in a printed policy such as the Terms & Conditions, then legally they can't enforce it.

That's a shame, sounds like something you were genuinely looking forward to and one person has ruined it. Chances are that the organisers would have been fine with it but you have just ended up getting searched by the wrong person. They should invite you next year as an apology on one of the days just before it opens to the public, as they seemed to do with some roller coaster volggers. The free publicity would have been great for them, what a missed opportunity. The new camera is great, the quality of your recent videos has really gone up a level.

What a sad jobsworth! We went a few years back, horrednous queue to get in, very expensive, it wasn't all bad, the ice sculupters were good, but we won't be hurrying back anytime soon to what is basically a large funfair.

I had a similar problem last year. Told I could take a camera in. Like you, I pointed out all the other people filming. he went and got a senior person who said I could go in but if told to put the camera away I must do so. Needless to say nobody asked me to put it away!

These types of venue probably get a good proportion of their clientele from social media exposure. It would be interesting as a follow-up to write to the official organisers of the event and see how they respond. Especially with the evidence that you had of others recording using similar consumer retail level technology. I have had a similar experience at some of the historic houses in the past. One year everything is fine and then the next year they have developed a whacky policy. With today's vast use of mobile recording, they really should make it explicit ahead of purchasing tickets if video recording is not allowed and they should apply the policy consistently. Or just apply a bit of common sense, stop the inappropriate restrictions and simply allow people to record if they are doing so safely.

I’ve had similar too, being told no camera allowed when I have my Canon DSLR but no signs up to say so, and once in, people had phones and photographing stuff, and some of the top end phones are better than some of the older larger digital camera equipment.

They should have communicated that it is an enclosed event with privacy act rules in place regarding people's privacy especially to protect minors ad clearly mention no cameras at all other than press and cctv. That's why it's more like an amusementpark with strict rules like as Heidepark in Germany has or something.

Hi Darren, I feel you. I was denied entry because I had my Sony a7iii camera. I only intended to take family photos, but the male security guard was rude, dismissive and insisted I needed a media pass. Despite offering to keep my camera in my bag, he suggested leaving it at Victoria Station (WTF?). After a discussion with his manager, the lady allowed me in, but the encounter left me feeling mistreated and dampened the entire mood.

You should complain to the organisers about your treatment and by the gate staff. It may do no good but there is the chance that they tell their staff not to act like idiots.

Thing thing is the gate staff have been told by the organisers not to let in people with any cameras, there is actually a few events like this that don’t allow cameras without permission, Brent Cross and Bluewater don’t allow filming either

They need be more clear and specific with their rules listed on their website@@Coaster_Crazy. What's their justification, accounting for most mobile phones today also record 4K video? What I find most stupid is it's more dangerous one holding a phone on a ride (like I have seen) than me with a GoPro SECURELY mounted to my chest, yet both are of equal video quality, if not the phone being better in quality.

We was there last year and filming snow jet one of the ride staff came and booted my foot off the chquerplate which was no where near the ride itself absolutely disgusting we complained and got hope to see you again soon email well get stuffed I messaged the ride owner he delt with it as a ride op myself i would never treat anyone in that Manor but to boot my foot no warning is absolutely not fine and looked at me as to say and what idiots sod the place now won't last another 10 years too like Hull and goose now with duplicates

I watched Tims' video as well. And, (no offense to Darren), Tim has 5 times the subscribers, and is probably a bit more well known. It's possible Tim went through the application process to get Press Accreditation, which is required for professional filming, as per the WW website..I don't know for sure.

Ive literally just watched another RU-vidr doing a tour of this venue, I'm baffled about why you weren't allowed in. From all of the reviews I've seen for this place it looks like a massively overpriced ripoff anyway. Sorry you were treated so badly, hopefully they see this and retrain their staff to have some actual customer service skills!

That’s utterly ridiculous!! The first thing I thought of was “what about mobile phones?” I have videos from 2021 and 2022 winter wonderland, never been challenged. There are far better Christmas markets in London so I do think you dodged a bullet, just sorry to hear you had a bad time of it..

Yeah better go to Stoke on Trent for that matter, or similar Carnivals or eny a Christmas Market anywhere basically. It is only for Olympia Looping and maybe some other rides, but otherwise there are nicer and cozier places.

Darren, you have to remember this is London. All the person on that gate was waiting for was your "special filming permit". I always carry a couple. They're purple and (currently) show a picture of the former monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Its London. Its just about the money.

I would give Hyde Park's 'Winter Wonderland' a very wide berth. From what I've heard over the last few years it's not worth the hassle. A purely commerical operation devoid of any 'Christmas Spirit'. In short, a rip-off that leaves a nasty taste.

Sounds like fun. Just thinking here; I don't think anyone has done a vid on the two churches on either end of the Medieval London Bridge. They are St Magnus the Martyr and Southwark Cathedral "once called St Saviour's Church.' St Magnus once was part of the north approach to the Medieval London Bridge and part of Southwark Cathedral was demolished to make way for the New London Bridge "1831" southern approach road. They both still stand today. @@AdventureMe

Fk winterwonderland. me and my mrs went there last year its a total rip off. They have segmented each attraction meaning you need to pay for separate tickets with time slots if you wanna do the ice skating or visit the ice bar. The 'ice bar' is actually just a tent with cold air fans inside with a few melted ice statues , its pathetic. Its way too overcrowded ,its full of expensive market stalls selling shoddy items. i saw a cup going for £70. The rides and big wheel had hour long queues due to overcrowding and booked time slots. A scam game stalls let you throw 3 broken darts for a fiver on a dartboard thats been painted with wax to stop you from winning. The whole place is a joke.

Take the wonderland/security company to small claims court for expenses lost. And find out if they had any signs on the way in stating this.

What they don't realise is that when you show how good things like this are, it's basically free advertising If there are other negative videos to back up this one, then it can only damage their profits.

I would've demanded to see the events manager if security told me that I couldn't bring in my GoPro camera and there's nothing in the Terms & Conditions saying that they're not allowed, because I won't tolerate anyone interfering my fairground hobby at all!

Exactly what happened last year and again this year the enforcement is all over the place. And it's definitely hurting there reputation so many of us have just not bothered to go there because of these stupid policies and even worse enforcement.

Took the family there about 3 years ago before the pandemic it was horrendous queues everywhere over priced food and drinks if you want a Christmas market save your money and go to a proper one in Vienna or cologne only about £28 return flight and food and drink reasonably priced

Make a complaint and get your money back, if it didn't tell you that when you booked then they've breached the contract you had when you bought the ticket.

Same here. Yesterday I took my camera with a 35mm lens to make some shots of my daughter and I was told the same thing. I asked him if he knew everyone is capable of doing the same thing at an absolutely reasonable quality with any modern phone...his answer was he didn't care and I had to put my camera away.

Christmas market have gone the way of bonfires, stately homes and country gardens. All used to be a cheap day out for families now it’s easily 50 quid to get in. Consultants and H&s ruin everything

The saddest part of all of it is that you hid it (badly) & they still couldn’t find it! Ok it’s an ‘illegal’ camera as far as you are concerned but what if someone had brought a knife or worse with intent? Bullshit security firm who are incapable of doing their job. No customer service from either an interaction or safety point of view. Complete bollox.

No way, they actually really frisk search you up and inside out, plus every bag. Also detection gate and sticks. TSA would be jealous. Btw every bag bigger than a handbag is not allowed. And you can only bring in empty plastic bottles or paper cups to refill them at the tapwater faucet next to the bathroomstalls with ice cold chlorinated tapwater, or pay through the nose for a drink they could pour in your cup.
