_The Ghost Train_ was originally (1923) a stage play, written by Arnold Ridley, who later played the elderly Private Godfrey in _Dad's Army_ .

One of my favourite rides ever in the Pleasure Beach. I love the fact that once a year they add new scenes in the ride but also keep the vintage charm to it. Speaking of that this year they're having some new scenes in the ride and in March the Pleasure Beach fanclub (I have joined this year) are helding an event where you walk the Ghost Train which I am so excited to do!

Such a classic ride the Ghost Train and always fun to ride every time I visit Pleasure Beach. I remember one time some years back where me and my brother got stuck because the flying skull that used to be there actually fell off and got lodged under the car we were in. After being there for a while, we had no choice but to get out of the car as there was a burning smell coming from the car. When the ride attendant saw us come out, we immediately told him what happened and he understood and let us head out. It was a shame what happened to the flying skull as it was a really good effect.
@HarryYT22
@HarryYT22 6 месяцев назад
I remember the flying skull. It's great that for the new character not quite sure what he is I think he's either a ghoul or zombie they used the same mechanism. I do miss the eye popping portrait that used to be in the section where the bone grinder wheels are I do like the new effect with the video screen but that doesn't always work.

That’s the first time I’ve seen behind that fire escape door and I’ve been on a walking tour of the Ghost Train before. Thanks for the maps showing the layout of the track and - even better - the way the whole area is laid out. I’ve always been fascinated by how they fitted so much into that single area, with the River Caves, Gold Mine and Ghost Train all merging into the same space, or so it seems. I completely missed that it was actually triangular! Now all I need is to see how the Gold Mine track interlinks with it all.

Love the design of these Roller-ghosters. They certainly get up quite a bit of speed suddenly for such a tiny drop. I used to keep trying to build these on RollerCoaster Tycoon but they always ended with the cars crashing off the slope going back up and blowing up, lol. My favourite bit there has to be that set of skeletons on pedal bikes.

Great vid Darren. Love the Blackpool Ghost train and great to see behind the scenes. I remember as a kid in the 80s i seem to have a memory that there was a witch next to the Slimer ghost which was also on a slider, plus the big skull jaw moved up and down on top of the ride. I wonder where the massive beckoning bell boy ghoul at the entrance to the ride has gone? Will always have affection for this ride.

Wow this is really something,i saw another video of this dark ride and it is one of a kind! In the 80s in a greek fair happening in my hometown thessaloniki macedonia each september we had a really small version of it called treno fantasma,which means basically ghost train! Back then it was filled with all shorts of stuff but with the years they always removed something because they didn't do repairs etc on the ride! The amazing thing with you and about this out there is the fact that you keep it going after so many decades and also improving it instead trashing it and leave it to rot! I wasn't sure for the names origin but now as i see it came from you as well,didn't knew that this was the names of the spooky dark rides back then for all those to be honest with you.I always thought that this name was from our ppl mostly in greece,or europe at best! In things that would seem minor when it comes to entertainment to us you keep the tradition alive behind those things,making them also show historical! And it is i wish we would have a theme park in greece,or a fun park good enough but in my region in the city i live they don't wanna make something like this because of bad economy and of course they are not visionaries as a whole!

Thanks Darren - very interesting. As a child, the scariest part for me was the tunnel, as it was so disorientating back then, when it was lined with with lights, and as it rotated you (well I) started to feel seasick as you lost all perspective of up and down. But I always thought it was done by the rows of lights flashing on and off in a sequence, to make it feel like it was rotating - I never knew it actually rotated. I have to say the tunnel looked very lame in your video in comparison to my memories. The other scary thing were the strips of black plastic hanging down in places, which felt like some apparition running its ghostly fingers over your face and down your neck. I guess they'd be too much a fire risk now.

@julesb7707 6 месяцев назад

Darren..Abit of trivia fro you if did'nt know the "ghost train" play (later turned into a film staring Arthur Askey) was writen by Arnold Ridley who played private Godfrey in dads army? After being stranded for an evening at Mangotsfield railway station, near Bristol, Ridley was inspired to write the play . THAT is one of the stations i have mentioned before when a talked about you doing the bristol to bath railway walk , still walls and platforms there to see! Also on a different note in the vid at around 4min 31 you get a blocky patch of interferance on the vid ( just 1 small area) ..could that be Cloggy messing about with your vid equipment? you never know! 😉🤣🤣 Thanks for this behind the scenes walkthrough I spotted stuff that i had never noticed before (although it is quite a few yrs since a ivisted BPB abd the ghost train ..still one of my faves ...i love the classic old rides they still have like this the river caves and of course the brillaint woodie coasters they have! although i do miss the mad mouse!

I am really surprised that thry scrapped the old wild mouse. This park spends insane money to maintain its old rides and makes sure to repair all of its coasters. They could have demolished the big one as its rough and as far as hypers go its sub par. But they spent crazy money to have a company remake the old arrow track and retracked the entire thing. I get the wild mouse had issues with the brakes bit they could have cinverted it back to the old style brakes and continued operating it. I was really suprised they tore it down and didnt even give people a chance to ride it one last time.

i've been on this ride loads from a kid. 3:37 the ramp on the left me my mum n dad were in the kart and the front wheel came off the track and we tipped backwards while approaching the top of the ramp, the attendants and my dad came to our rescued us from tipping backwards and the ride got shut. This was the year they started to use tickets to get on the rides. I remember my dad kicking off at some bloke that worked there.

So glad theyve cherished this old ride and kept it in top shape! I also believe the large troll animatronic out front is a Distortions Unlimited product which means it came from my home state, Colorado!

Hi Darren, great video as always. I am from Australia and we dont have many ghost train rides here anymore. There was a terrible fire in the ghost train in Luna Park in Sydney in 1979, lots of people tragically killed, and the ghost trains seemed to disappear after that. Interestingly on your map you showed the ghost train next to the river caves, that is exactly how it was set up here as well.

Was one of my favourite rides in the Pleasure Beach, I have seen on other video bloggers regading the revolving wheel near the end that it had change which is very disappointing and does not look as good, needs to go back to the old way of doing a full continuous revolve to get that sensation going through the dark,

Darren, nothing beats classic dark rides. My favorite Disneyland rides are the original Fantasyland dark rides. That must have been a blast to walk through the ride with a flashlight/torch looking at all the things to make the ride function that you normally don't see while riding the ride. mike

I rode the Blackpool Ghost train in the 1960's prior to my family emigrating to California. Most 'ghost rides' at English fun fares were a bit rubbish. Sooner or later, in pitch black, you'd get a dank burlap sack to the face . . . so I was not a fan. The Blackpool ghost train was night and day a far superior ride. That being said Mr Toad's is quite good as it also uses that oncoming train effect.

@@sweetsunnyvibes Hmmm You sound constipated or something. Maybe get out of mommy's basement, go outside and get some fresh air and sun --- the sun is that big round thing up in the sky.....

This was great! I know it's probably unlikely with the ride currently being out of order, but I'd absolutely love to see a video like this for The River Caves.
