@Lassi Kinnunen 81 This is what they're made of: Flour (55%) (Wheat Flour, Calcium, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Vegetable Oil (Palm), Wholemeal Wheat Flour (16%), Sugar, Raising Agents (Sodium Bicarbonate, Malic Acid, Ammonium Bicarbonate), Partially Inverted Sugar Syrup, Salt I genuinely don't know much about nutrition, but are those ingredients "basically vitamins"? Niacin and thiamin I think might be vitamins, and I suppose palm oil contains vitamins(?), but don't forget all the sugar, cream and butter that goes into the rest of the dessert! As I said, such a gorgeous dessert is going to give lots of pleasure, make you feel good, and boost your mental wellbeing - "a little of what you fancy does you good", and I can't wait to try it myself! - but I'm not convinced it could be described as healthy to the body.

Yeah!! I was also thinking that because lily's coco jam is vegan there is now a way for me to make vegan banoffee pie - I'd probably use vitalite spread for the butter substitute (it's really good for that) - I know there's vegan spray whipped cream, but I'm not sure what I'd do for the soft cheese substitute. Maybe try without to begin with. Dark chocolate for the shavings, maybe some nutmeg.

Digestive biscuits are available in the US but you might have to do some searching. For reference since a lot of people here aren't familiar with them, they're sort of like a slightly thicker, slightly starchier version of a graham cracker. We even use graham crackers to make a very similar crust for custard pies like cheesecake or key-lime pie.

You could probably freeze the base before pouring the filling, I imagine it would aid in preventing it melting, as well as helping set the caramel. Also, I find it helps to stir/whip cream cheese a bit in the tub, this loosens it up nicely so that it's easier to incorporate, especially if you need to fold it into a batter or cream.

Looking at wikipedia, graham crackers seem like a specifically american cultural thing. They look a bit like squared-off oatcakes. Or perhaps like our digestives crossed with something flatter and with more snap to it, like our other dunk-in-a-cup-of-tea cultural staple: rich tea biscuits. www.biscuitpeople.com/magazine/post/rich-tea Side note, I like one remark in that article. "The Victorians were oddly anxious about their intestinal tracts" Written unironically in an age where probiotic yoghurt manufacturers make money hand over fist. 😆

Nutella used to come in a glass with a plastic top that was our drinking vessels for at least a decade., Love the way that you adapt stuff for what you have. I do that. Iceland sell broken biscuits which are random biscuits, eat the more whole ones with a cup of whatever. And the bits put in a food processor and use the crumbs for the base yummy chocolately/custardly/malty goodness of the bits so add to the flavour.

I do make weird oven baked pancakes-cakes-cookies and they produce a vast amount of crumbs at the bottom of the pan. I scrape them meticulously and save them in the fridge for ice cream... but I never buy ice cream so, I just eat them because they're so tasty.

I think our equivalent to your digestives is "Maria" cookies which are a Spanish biscuit imported by Goya foods and sold in every grocery store in the ethnic section Edit: I meant here in the USA
@AtomicShrimp
@AtomicShrimp 3 года назад
Maria biscuits are nice (I especially like the oro variety), but they are much lighter than a digestive. Probably similar once they are bashed down to crumbs and mixed with butter
@lofe.dystopia
@lofe.dystopia 3 года назад
The best American equivalent would probably be graham crackers!
@user-wq9mw2xz3j
@user-wq9mw2xz3j 3 года назад
Not at all. Those are more like normal tea biscuits, just harder and less crumbly (which makes them better), but digestive is from oatmeal making them quite a bit different
@lofe.dystopia
@lofe.dystopia 3 года назад
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j I don't mean to say they're exactly the same, but in this type of recipe (where crumbs + butter are used as a pie base) graham crackers work pretty much the same way
@mikedrop4421

@@lofe.dystopia yeah, I made the same mistake in my original comment. I was referring to the way it would turn out after making a crust with them.
