David Kato born of Luweero, 26yrs old and a Mutusi by tribe, my great grand parents have been here in Uganda for more than 200yrs, I agree with Professor Kenyeihamba, if we create another tribe of Bavandimwe/ rebrand even other people will come up wanting to form new tribe with a new name. Yes, some times we are discriminated, but let us copy how the Israelite live since they are scattered all over the world like Bannyarwanda, Let us not compete for the available cake but focus on creating more cake in that other nations will crave for us due to our productivity. I grew up in our home town called Wobulenzi town council in Luweero district, but all our neighbors referred to our home "Ewa Mzee Munnyarwanda " not in bad heart and we were proud of it because our family was respected in the community for the services it offered.
Their is no tribe called BaTutsi or Bahutu....These were economic classification by the Colonialists! Tutsi are people who graze cattle and the Hutu are those who dig farms(abalimi) If someone was able to transform and grow with many cows they would become Tutsi.

It’s odd that you people use this colonial blame always leave out the Twa(Pygmy) population of Rwanda and don’t claim them to also be a “social classification” invented by Europeans Centuries before Europeans arrived in Africa, the Tutsi, Hutu and Twa ethnic groups were already well-established. Just like the Hima and Bairu in Ankole, Tutsi and Hutu were distinct groups. In Burundi, it is proudly acknowledged that Tutsi and Hutu are two different ethnic groups. It is important to note that in post-genocide Rwanda, the government and young historians have attempted to promote the idea that Hutu and Tutsi are the same, as a means of reconciliation and preventing future genocides. However, any honest Rwandan would tell you that even without identity cards indicating Tutsi or Hutu, people can still identify each other's ethnicity. Tutsi and Hima consider themselves to be the same people and share the same clans, while Hutu cannot claim to be Hima. In summary, the distinction between Tutsi and Hutu as separate ethnic groups predates the arrival of Europeans in Africa and is not influenced by white/European presence. The Tutsis and Hutus have always had a different culture even though they now speak the same language. Tutsis have a Pastoral Culture derived from South Cushitic Pastoralists of Savanna Pastoral Neolithic/Nilotic of East Africa The main diet of the Tutsis & Hima was Milk, Meat, Butter and Cattle Blood. The Tutsis and Hima are the responsible for introducing cattle to those regions of modern day Ankole Region of Uganda, Karagwe_Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. Their almost complete concentration on cattle. Goats were totally shunned and only one or two sheep would be kept with the herd. The pastoralists separated themselves from all aspects of agriculture and preferred to consume only milk, meat and occasionally blood. A 24-hour fast was observed before resuming milk consumption. In this exclusively pastoral world, the position of women, deprived of the opportunity to cultivate, was greatly undermined. As with the breeding of the herds, human reproduction was a carefully observed busi-ness, with very distinct perceptions of the social ties and human features that were regarded as desirable. In their activities they also distinguished themselves by dress codes, domestic architecture, pastimes, other aspects of material culture and, of course, economic practice. Tutsis are 90% Lactase Persistence On the other hand Hutus are descendants of Bantu Agriculturalists, they are strictly farmers, their diet was high in vegetables and lacked in animal protein due to the small amounts of animal products consumed. Their diet mainly consisted of beans, corn, millet, sorghum, sweet potatoes, and cassava etc… There are cases where language doesn't always correlate with genetics. Ethnicity refers to a person's cultural background, ancestry, and shared heritage, which can be independent of the language they speak. While language can be an important aspect of culture and identity, it is not a defining factor for determining one's ethnicity. Examples: •Ethiopia Semitic Groups who are more than 70% cushitic in ancestry •Nilotic pastoralists from Tanzania "Datoga ethnic have highest cushitic ancestry (~65%)than all surviving •South Cushitic (except Iraqw), but they speak a nilotic language. Colleagues do remember that gisoro and kigezi and part of mpororo were annexed to Uganda from Rwanda in 1910. This was a deal between Britain and Belgium after Germany was defeated. Bafumbira are actually relatives of Barera of northern Rwanda. Gashumba is a Ugandan of Rwandan origin.

It's sad that people who came here as political or economic refugees now demand the change of constitution of the host country. A choice was given to Banyarwanda in Uganda to be Bafumbira abd they integrate well with Ugandan Tribes. Because of ulterior motives the Tutsi rejected the Bafumbira to remain Banyarwanda. I wish there were more people like the Prof who can challenge Gashumba and let him know that there’s no tribe bavandibwe in Uganda and we should not allow it in our constitution. Internationally, migrants who change their original citizenship to the new acquired nationality, must get a new identity in relationship to the new acquired nationality: ie If you're a Ugandan refugee in the USA, in the state of California, automatically you a Californian. Banyarwanda in Uganda are Ugandans whilst Banyarwanda in Rwanda are Rwandese as Kinyarwanda speakers in Congo are Congolese. Therefore being a Munyarwanda is that of ethnicity and not nationality. For instance all cross-border tribes can be found in different countries like the Luos but they can't lose who they're. Eastern Ugandans have their relatives in Kenya but you will never hear this debate about them.

Changing a name 4rm banyaranda to bavandimwe won’t solve anything. I’m a munyarwanda but i posses a baganda name but still some pipo call me a munyarwanda and murundi simply bcoz of my appearance and I’m proud of it.

Both of you have a point. The best option would be to be called Banyarwanda since every tribe in this world is defined by their language. However in Banyarwanda culture, it is also common to be called by area of residence. For exemple in Rwanda we used to have Banyenduga, Banyabyumba. That is how we also hear some Congolese Banyarwanda calling themselves Banyamulenge, Banyabwisha. But that doesn't remove the fact that they are part of Banyarwanda tribe even if they have no relationship with Rwanda whatsoever. I don't see the problem with being called Banyarwanda if it is recognized as one tribe of Uganda.

This journalist should carry out some research. Hutu, tutsi and twas are not tribes they were simply social classes likend to one's occupation. Tutsi means cattle keepers, bahutu farmers and batwa hunters. You should know that one could upgrade from a mutwa to a hutu and ultimately to a tutsi due to change of occupation. Even in 1933 when the Germans were introducing national IDs in Rwanda wich made those social classes tribes they depended on the number of cows one had. Anyone with more than 10 cows was refered to as tutsi, and those who had less than 10 cows were considered hutus. That's why the same biological brothers ended up in different so called tribes. Also the features are distinct Twas and majority of Hutus have bantu like features and tutsis cushite features. It's been documented that the nomadic nature of tutsi means they were adapting the languages of the locations they found in the areas they relocated to.

@@Mzeearts which language is that? Can you speak it for me? When you talk about the features, those depend on diet and the type of work one does. How do you expect a farmer to look like a pastorist who live on milk. How come that all those 3 groups fall in the same clans with the same ancestors? I have told you that we have some biological brothers who fall in those different groups you call tribes. How can you explain that? Even I myself, when you compare me with my siblings you may put us in different groups due to our features which are totally different.

If you are doubting get 2 babies from the same parents and feed them from different diet. One from fresh milk, bongo and prevent him from performing heavy tasks, and another one feed him on posho and encourage him to perform heavy tasks and carry heavy things then you will tell me if the 2 kids will have the same features.
I love professor's consistence. Here in Kisoro where tutsi or hutu we call our selves Bafumbira. I think Gashumba a Tutsi doesn't want to identified with Bahutu.

Gashumba you are confusing things, UGANDA ARE UGANDANS so please take it whether you are tuso/hutu but they came from Rwanda as bagishu, basonga, banyoro, bacholi are from Uganda
We all know Gashumba’s criminal background involving drug trafficking and obtaining man by false pretense from foreigners, he was working with Kale and kawesi, they have tortured people endlessly, now he is seeking cover from the government pretending to be a victim of discrimination, he must pay for his crimes

Mutulekemu namwe, why congest our country with tribes, so should every group of foreigners come to uganda and claim for a new tribe. Tribes are very many already, matter of fact its one of the reasons for the most of the instabilities in our country.
By the way, Professor is very right, you can't say that abavandimwe is a tribe. Let them look for another word to use or collectively accept to be all called Bafumbira. However, using the word Banyarwanda as a tribe in Uganda was totally wrong.
The probleme is, Rwandans anywhere they go they fight to lead for their interest. This debate missed one old Mugnda who knew the history like Kanyihamba.
If they changed the Uganda's constitution and added in it JIKWATEKO and they did it, then they should also change the one of the Banyarwanda in Uganda!
