Baofeng UV-5R Ham Radio cannot receive - WITH FIX in description

First off, make sure the keypad beep is enabled. (menu 8 = on).
If that does not work, you need to take a few more steps. It was easier than expected, just over analyzed it a bit..
You need to uninstall Chirp.
Then install the old version of it (7/14/14) from trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp....
Then write this image to the radio: kc9hi.dyndns.org/uv5r/programm...

After that, again make sure (menu 8 = on) and your radio should be working.
------------
Now, install the latest version of chirp from trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp...
From here on out, make sure everytime you hookup your sync cable, you read from the radio first before writing a saved image.
I learned, even though the radios look the same, and sort of act the same; they are not. The design seems to be whored around China with many different manufacturers making clones with their unique alterations.

Thak you thank you!!! In my case radio less than a year old and given to me.. transmit no receive.. downloaded your image opened in chirp legend new version... 3-25-24 .. wrote the image to the radio.. then shut off radio and closed chirp.. opened chirp and turned on radio, read from radio, deleted those memory frequencies and copied (copy and paste) the frequencies from another uv-5r programed for my area.. in chirp and wrote them to the radio. Works like it should now. Transmit and recieve.. thanks again.. I know these little radios are a dime a dozen .. but it still had plastic on the screen.. just that new. Nice little knock about..

I am still struggling with mine - No CTCSS and No DCS but still the squelch doesn't open when receiving a signal from a radio in the same room but transmits to that radio perfectly and receives ok when the monitor button is pressed.

I might be late here lol, I have a wouxun kguv8d. For some reason I can't receive any transmission unless I'm holding down monitor, however I can transmit with no problem?

Maybe you can help me. An big arc of static from a metal door frame hit me in the shoulder. My uv5r started broadcasting and won't stop unless I turn it off. When I turn it on it starts broadcasting again. I can't access menu, and all the buttons just make tones. I have 4 uv5r's and this is my first time with an issue like this.

I used the newest version of chirp. I receive NOAA and a few other stations, but none of the local repeaters. There is one on the fire station radio tower 1 1/2 miles away. I watched all the videos, tried all the tricks, but no luck. I know about the offsets, etc. I'll get it figured out, somehow. Since I am receiving NOAA, I know it's not the receive, but it could be the programming. Simplex works.

I uploaded an older save .img to my radio and got it working again, think downloading and uploading from a different radio= caused it

My husband purchased our radios from Amazon, his radio will transmit to my radio, I get a green light. I cannot hear him when he talks. He can, however, hear me. Is it my radio or is it his? This is what I need to know before I contact the seller. Had I known that they were this difficult, I would not have allowed the purchase. Everything else works on my radio just not receiving his voice.

I did it and this is what came up. Upload finished, but "other Settings" could not sent because the firmware version of the image ( Ver BFB281 ) does not match that of the radio (N5R2407BFB297)..... I'm lost. lol

Something similar happened to me on VHF today. They hear me, but I was able to hear the others only if I hold MONI button. Now it is everything OK. I dont know what happened. And yes, I wasn't using CT or DCS... I suspect menu 35 (squelch tail was ON) turn it OFF.

Music Matt 76 I have been having the issue of only hearing others in 2 meters unless I go to any menu button. I’m going to try turning off the squelch tail you mentioned

@@allenmcgee9379 Problem is that baofeng and similar radios are deaf with good antenna because strong signals can instantly overload receiver. China radios are only usable for UHF operation. On UHF that problem is reduced.

@@MujoNovak it appears otherwsie to my baofeng uv5r.. its good on VHF but deaf on UHF.. i did try turning off the squelch and it works, but a lot of splatter.

I have a UV-5R with BFB229 firmware (quite old) and it will only receive if I defeat the squelch. No Tone or DCS settings have been used....the link for the old version of Chirp is invalid now - any ideas please or is my radio only useful for a door stop?
