Great gun with sweet trigger. The magazine is pricey because we are used to cheap magazines for our ar 15s which were developed as throwaways or meant to be dropped and left on the battlefield, same as m1 carbines. They are cheaply made from cheap materials. The DBM magazine is a bit sturdier and of course designed to last the lifetime of the gun hence costs more.
The BAR is a great rifle; however my eight years of military experience, coupled with my thirty years of civilian marksmanship, have taught me that no magazine is worth $100… I’ve fired countless thousands of rounds through “cheap, throwaway magazines” that are still used today… The Browning Automatic Rifle has been with us for quite some time (1938) But the BAR DBM in caliber.308 is relatively new… There has never been a torture test done on this magazines reliability… Neither has any military ever adopted this platform. It is an erroneous statement to declare this to be a lifetime, reliable magazine… Bottom line, the magazines are overpriced, and the firearm does not perform adequately in the accuracy category, compared to similar platforms in this price point. This is nothing new, it is well established in all military circles… Hence why we went to the M60 and then the 240B as superior machine gun platforms. The BAR was never considered as a “battle rifle”. I will be happy to elaborate, if you have any questions On Veterans Day, LMM
I guess they never figured on selling spare mags for the rifle. It is a hunting rifle, not a battle rifle. Maybe some company should make aftermarket spare mags at a cheaper price, but a $1500 rifle will have an $80 magazine. Heck just the front swivel screw is $14 and I still haven’t found the correct one that protrudes past the wood. Spare parts for the mk3 BAR are hard to find compared to the BAR. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND THE VIDEO. Now a joke…. 3 nazis walked into a BAR. lol.
@@baylorattorney well you are a good sport lol My statement sounded harsh (I went back and read it) I still don’t see anything particularly special about the magazine, certainly not a $60 to $80 difference. It’s just stamped metal with a spring 🤷♂️ It seems like gouging when companies do things like this and unfortunate that the Browning name and brand are used to push what I think are ridiculous prices.
Damn if this video didn't upset me. I was dead set on the MK3 with the wood furniture, but now after watching, I'm in love with this black synthetic stock it just looks so sweet. Guess I gotta beg the wife for both now
I've been interested in the browning bar dbm for a long while now but cant find one in the stores ,great video and I cant wait to see another video of this rifle with a scope and paper targets at long range
I’ll bet she’s a beauty… I’m sure that 20” barrel makes a big difference. The 18” was good for our intended use; we will still test her at 400 yards just to see the possibilities 😎

Have you considered testing the Benelli R1 Pro in 30-06? It's a similar class of rifle. Both use 10rd magazines. Both are Semiautomatic The Benelli R1 Pro only comes in a wood stock . Cheaper 10rd magazine at $60 if you search online. The Benelli has iron sights and is slightly lighter. Browning BAR Mark III DBM does come in a synthetic stock version. Has no iron sights. The BAR Mark III DBM magazine is about $89 is you look online. Neither have a threaded barrel. I'm not sure if either are match barrels or not.
I am absolutely interested in trying one out, that being said we are self funded and $1600 to just shoot one is difficult for us in this economy lol I will see if we can get a hold of one in the future, but they look very well made and I’m sure they are great rifles 👍
Beautiful gun. I’m sure it’s pricey though. I have a BAR Safari II in 308. The only thing I don’t like about it is the swing down box magazine setup. I wish it was a detachable magazine like yours. Just looked. $94 for a replacement 10 round magazine on Browning’s site. Holy crap! And people complain about the cost of Ruger Mini Thirty mags at $40 for a twenty rounder! I think I’ll stick with my mini thirty. Thanks for the video.
Valuable example. Thank you. I’m a physical trainer. I’m recommending 5-10 wind sprints 2 days a week. 15 minute run/walk/crawl 3 days a week. 60 push-ups and 100 sit-ups any way you can get ‘em 3 days a week. Never mind age. 1 quarter will yurn you into an animal.
I've been looking for one but only found one with a wood stock and $450 over MSRP. Eventually I will find one I can afford. They get snatched quick and even more so now in Illinois since the AW Ban. This model wont be an issue
We were using 147 grain Winchester white box in this video. We have done follow up videos showing 175 and 168 grain bullets grouping. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel👍
its actually not expensive for the quality, the fudd version is absolutely beautiful. Two stage trigger is better then many bolt action. the only thing against it is that its not cleaning friendly, few small parts and screws to take off after shooting some good old corrosive primed.
@@Nick-wn1xw you are right, I did once cause I still got lots of old 30 06 ball. No worries its clean as a whistle afterwards. It runs great on anything. Clearly browning never intended for this rifle to shoot dirty ammo. no instruction are even provided for disassembly.
Unfortunately I don’t believe they make a 4round mag that is compatible with the DBM model. Any other MK2 or MK3 model comes factory with the lower capacity mags. Hope this helps
I’m gonna be nice tonight ,just for your new best rifle ,,load 40 grains of IMR -4895 under a 168 grain Speer gold dot ,,available at mid way or Natchez, put your COAL at 2818 and use a BR-2 primer and thank me in the morning ha ha ha
Threaded barrel as an option okay. But along with it’s semiauto operating system and detachable mag it’d be considered an “assault weapon” and therefore not for sale in NY and and other some states.
AWSOME, I want one too. Used to have a M1A, should have never sold it, but this rifle is a beautiful. Just so expensive. Wifey not gonna like the price tag. 😀
As far as I know they have very similar actions, and look very similar. But without any experience with the FMAR, I would be out of my wheelhouse giving an opinion on which is better. For me it would come down to cost and availability. Hope that helps out some… Let me know what you find out 👍
You got it lol… Honestly I am partial to the M1A for a couple reasons. 1. parts and magazines are less expensive and more available. 2. The barrel appears to hold its groups better when hot. That being said, the BAR is an excellent firearm and I don’t think you could really go wrong with either. More personal preference than anything. Hope that helps, let me know which one you get 👍
The disassembly is not too bad; fortunately it’s a piston system, so it runs a bit cleaner than an AR platform. It’s also not as finicky as a DI system with the .308
I love that shooting course movement idea [Hu-ah]. IMHO movement shooting is realistic training. Good AAR, nice informal STARR. You are a GO for the BAR.
I’d like one but I wish they would give it to me in 30-06 like the good ole days . Be nice if it took standard ar 10 mags at the very least. I’m gonna subscribe . I’m a Kentucky native and where I live I don’t get to hear people that talk normal. Take it easy fellas
Cool excellent video, I am ex-AF so I like the .308/7.62 so I am really humble with my old Remington 7400 from my buddies dad. I have AR-10's and 15's but my 7400 in 308 is my favorite. I don't and will probably never hunt with either of my AR-10s. I won't this rifle in 30-06 because I have a rem700 in 30-06 bolt want the Semi. I also want the 308 in in bolt. I am also a muzzle loader fan since 2016 because in New Mexico It is hard to get a draw license for anything and Muzzle has helped. I probably have to many of those for one person but I don't sleep with my rifle ramrod.
These are made by FN, FN’s version is semi tactical and marketed as a police rifle. As far as I know you can use fnar twenty round mags in these BAR rifles.
Both are excellent and you won’t regret either… Things to consider are magazine cost and availability of aftermarket parts… Again both are well made rifles, you can’t go wrong 😎
@@lastminuteman good points then i will go with the m1a more parts, magazines for a 20rd iv seen is 43bucks, and other custom mods you can do. The BAR iv seen 20rd mag for 100bucks 🤯 parts not as much as the m1a and i dont see an after market very much. Heck not much videos on you tube of your rifle.
@@jojo-bu2sy I have not found anything in the aftermarket for iron sights… Unless you purchase an ACOG or some other high end optic that has built in reflex sights; you are stuck with a red dot or a scope…
@@lastminuteman that is what I figured. kinda rules it out for a true survival or defense rifle. so close, though. it's almost perfect for me out here in cali. thanks for the info!
for just a few hundred dollars more you could have got yourself a real tactical weapon, an M1A. Those BARs won't hold up very long cause they are not made for rapid fire.
That is true. Alloy receivers and light barrel. Buy the version that FN makes under their own name (the BAR is 100% FN made), it will outdo an m1a for accuracy every time
I can tell you we are averaging 1.5 MOA at 300 yards with the Browning, I believe we were using 168 grain bullets… The rifle shoots well and has not had any malfunctions. The only real complaint I have with the rifle is the cost of magazines, they are not a cheap date. Hope this helps 👍
@@randywhelchel4674 We have only used standard BAR mags from Browning. I too have heard that magazines from FN can work, however I’ve also read that they don’t… And since both mags cost over $50, I’ve never considered anything but the Browning mags. As I stated, unfortunately that’s the big downfall of this platform… Parts are really not as accessible as AR-10 or M1A platforms, and I can definitely shoot better groups (sub MOA) with my AR-10/LR-308 That being said, the browning has a significant “cool” factor, it’s unique, and will hold its value over time… It’s a difficult decision to make for sure, let me know what you get 😎
Hate these rifles. 9 out of 10 guys don't know enough or are afraid to clean the gas system so inevitably they malfunction. So tired of fixing these garbage rifles that I won't work on them anymore.
Is there is a way to cut an M•Lok into the end of the fore grip to install a weapon light? Light plus an MRO/3x magnifier and you’ve got the ultimate security rifle for states that ban MSRs. 🤌
