Great video, and answered the exact question I had as a guy who wants to keep the ability for drip coffee. Thanks!

Really glad I stumbled across your video because I've been looking at the Encore ESP and the Sette 30 for moka pot, and V60 coffee. Also, you are the first channel that I've seen use a decibel meter to demonstrate how LOUD the Sette 30 grinder is, and even for me - especially with my tinnitus - that's way to loud and I'd have to use hearing protectors while grinding. *subscribed*

The Encore ESP looks like a winner for many folks. I need one! Thanks for your analysis!

I got the OXO for $99. Seems to work well but I am not expert. It grinds beans to various sizes easily, looks good on my counter and simply works.

Loved this video! Coulke things about the sette 30. You can buy the adjustment knob for the 270 and slap it on the 30. It’ll just cost a bit more overall, obviously. The 270 also comes with shims for more adjustments. Not sure if the 30 comes with them, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t include them. Lastly, if the 30 can grind as large as the 270, then it will be fine for pour over. I’ve used it for that purpose on occasion, and it does a decent to good job. That noise though? Absolutely brutal. For that reason, I’d say go with the encore! I’ve upgraded to the Silenzio, then went bigger to the Ceado e37 (which is perfection for me). Had the encore esp been available earlier though, I might have just switched to that one and called it a day….if you can swing the Ceado though, def go for it. I mean who needs two kidneys anyway, right?? ….jk everyone. Keep your kidneys.

I have the sette. It's a nice machine, It's loud yes. You have to be very subtle with the tuning for espresso. After a couple of months you need to install the added shims

Nice video. Baratza is a great company and I second that their customer support is A+. I owned a Settle 30 before and had to sell it. I got a replacement in the form of an ESP. Baratza warned me that I would see more clumping and retention with the ESP since it is not a straight flow-through design. This is absolutely correct. The clumping (and retention) is by far the biggest difference between these two. I am surprised you didn't mention it. Did you observe any differences?

after a bunch of reviews, looks like the Encore ESP is the winner for me; an affordable espresso grinder for my cheap Stilosa and my Aeropress. sadly i cant find any in my country. looks like i'll have to ring Baratza if they could sell them here lmao. thanks for the helpful review.

Great analysis of the two grinder! How would you compare the ESP to breville smart grinder pro? They come at the same price and looks like target the same use case.
@HomeGroundsCoffee
@HomeGroundsCoffee Год назад
Great question! We're working on a review comparing these, but the smart grinder pro has a lower quality grind overall as well as a lower build quality. However, it will be a more "linear" grind range unlike the ESP's devoted espresso range.

I didn't realize that the Sette didn't go course enough for drip batch brewing or French press...very odd that the default is a massive grounds bin for something that can basically only do espresso and things like moka pot or AeroPress.

Did you measure, or notice a difference in, grind retention in these two machines? I've read the Sette has very low retention of grinds, around 0.5 to 0.7 grams, which is a nice feature.

thx - but what kind of Sette do you use? no portafilter holder? and: does the Encore also use an Etzinger burr seit?

Would it be good have the esp for espresso and the fellow ode for drip?

I wouldnt call giving influencers "great customer support".... that would make you NOT a CUSTOMER lol. But great video anyways! Now I just need to think about the esp vs the sette 270

Great video, thank you! Do you find the step sizes of the Baratza ESP small enough to easily dial in espresso?
@HomeGroundsCoffee
@HomeGroundsCoffee Год назад
Yes definitely! With 20 steps to work with, I've had success dialing in many different coffees on espresso.

@@HomeGroundsCoffee in your grind setting vs particle size chart, it appears that, no matter the grind setting 0-17 the particle size is roughly 500 nm. How then does changing the grind setting influence the brew times (for dialing in)?? In other words, if particle size doesn't seem to change much through settings 0-17 does that imply that setting 1 and setting 15 essentially produce the same particle size?? Is it thus reasonable to conclude the grinder will not grind finer than on setting 17?
@jonmoore1421
@jonmoore1421 Год назад
Here is my guess. He does not have gadgetry to adequately measure particles smaller than 500 microns. The result is all particles that size or below fall in the same data bin.

Thanks a lot for such a good video! I have a Delonghi Dedica EC685 and now, I have a doubt. I don't know what to buy. My principal option was the Graef CM-800, but I have seen the Baratza Encore ESP and it's a great option. What do you think? If anyone can recommend another grinder in that range of price, I would really appreciate!

As someone who has also been looking for a dedicated Espresso Grinder on a budget, can honestly say the Baratza ESP always comes out top of the list. Having the same M2 Connical burrs as the Virtuoso+ , it’s the king of decent entry level espresso grinders. After viewing many in depth reviews of the ESP, Im definitely going to purchase one 👍

@@OO7JAMS finally I bought the Baratza ESP grinder and I'm really satisfied with it. It's a great option in this price range and the upgrade in terms of making a good quality coffee is incredible. I'm sure you will enjoy a lot the Baratza ESP!

From the particle size vs grind setting graph it appears the particle size doesn't change much between settings 0 and 20. Also you didn't mention the amount of time on the ESP second shot, demonstrating the effect from setting 13 to setting 10. On the 30 you casually found the grind setting the first time, not demonstrating the effects of a change i grind setting. I wonder if the Great Houdini would be proud of you?
